BlueFiberOptics
I have a massive directory of music filled with tons of deeper directories. Right now, I have iTunes just playing music from these folders without it actually managing my music. What do fellow iTunes users do? The reason I have iTunes not manage my music is because I have extra things like scanned covers, etc. in the folders and I think I would not have that if I let iTunes copy all my music and arrange it all in one folder. Elliott
For the scanned covers, just use iTunes to embed the album art into the audio files. If you've scanned more than the cover (like booklets), iTunes can manage the PDF files and keep them alongside your album.
MR_Candyman
The worst thing I ever did to my music collection was let itunes manage it. It copied everything into other folders - doubling my music collection. I think it also meesed up a bunch of id3 tags
KoL Veteran Posted December 2, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 2, 2009 Yep I let iTunes manage my music. I used to do it like you but I changed it and I prefer this way.
evo0o
i tried this once when i got my macbook pro, it doubled my files and it got messy prefer to manually manage my music, it takes time, but it's worth it
jimkraz
I used to let iTunes manage, but now I have my collection on external drive is suites better to manually manage my music, I don't want iTunes moving stuff on to my C drive, I often change my music on my iPhone and can change a couple of Gig and re-sync in less than a hour. +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted December 2, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 2, 2009 I meticulously manage my own music, I would never let any app take control of it. However, my needs are slightly outside the norm.

BlueFiberOptics
The thing is, sometimes my covers disappear, so it's nice to have them in the music folders in case I need to reapply. And what's this about a PDF that iTunes can store?
