Nicholas-c Veteran Posted December 2, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 2, 2009 Hey guys... im thinking of buying a macbook into the new year, Just wondering though, Would there be a way of automatically syncing (other than mobileme) all my browser settings, desktop background, Apps etc without me having to do it manually from my imac? Thanks Nicholas-c
I8PP
You can use the Migration Assistant to copy user profiles from one Mac to another connected directly or on the network. While that's going to copy everything, that's the only thing I can think of that's built in.
Nicholas-c Veteran Posted December 2, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted December 2, 2009 Yeah, i would do that to start with but then i would need a way for constantly syncing so that i have all my auto-login stuff ready to go no matter which computer im on
Elliott
MobileMe is pretty much the only way to sync all those settings. For a lot of them, you can probably get by with Dropbox. However, if you're going to have multiple Macs, I think MobileMe is well worth the price.
instant.human
i am in the same situation, going to buy me a new macbook in 10 days (i know, i know, i5 and i7 but i need it NOW), however i have my old blackbook with leopard installed and the new macbook will ship with snow leopard... will the migration assistent work? i want my itunes library, my user settings and all. the rest will be done manually by myself, of course. but the settings would be nice to have. the thing is, mobile me is not for me since i will continue having only mac plus i dont have a credit card to buy mobile me. they are not that widely spread in germany and i didnt need one yet. :p

Nicholas-c Veteran Posted December 2, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted December 2, 2009 Would setting up trial accounts for MobileMe work? Or is it 1 household = 1 trial. Don't really wanna fork out the cash lol

Don't really wanna fork out the cash lol If you're syncing two machines of your own machines, you only need one account. The trial would work fine, but eventually it'll run out. :p

cpressland2
You can't sync apps with MobileMe right? Nope. Another solution, at least for the Bookmarks would be to use Google Chrome or Firefox, both of them have Bookmark syncing features on OS X
