FIFA 10 Sells "More Than" 4.5 Million Worldwide

Based on internal figures, EA says FIFA 10 has sold 4.5 million units worldwide since it's launch in early October. This is in addition to FIFA 10 being the fastest-selling game ever, mind you. Besides that, the company also announced that the first downloadable content pack, FIFA 10 Ultimate Team, will be available in February 2010 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

Producer Paul Hossack details in the press release what you're getting with Ultimate Team: "We now have over 7,000 players from 27 leagues available, from which gamers will craft one or multiple squads to show their mastery of the revamped, more realistic chemistry system, and compete in tournaments with exciting requirements and rewards. On top of that, we'll release new tournaments and other updates regularly to keep the experience fresh and exciting."

Back to the sales figures, EA says FIFA 10 sold 26 percent better than FIFA 09 did in the same time period last year (and said nothing regarding last year's lousy economy compared to this year's optimistic economy). EA also says that FIFA 10 is breaking franchise records with an average of "3 million games played daily and over 113 million total online games played on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 over the past two months."

Talk about keeping the ball rolling.

Sorry, but this is what i see as glorified expansion. I mean, every FIFA game ive seen looks just about the same. Just different menu and title. :/

Good thing then it's the gameplay that matters to football games, not so much the looks.

You can't really change the core looks behind a football pitch/11 players and a ball. Unless they add the next-gen filter to FIFA, aka make everything brown and grey, then make all the players 600lb bald muscle machines, and to boot add an FPS mode with chainsaw guns.

FIFA 10 is anything bar an expansion pack, it's pretty much an overhaul of the way football games have been for years, especially in the movement category on and off the ball. PES pretty much plays like something you'd find in an arcade cabinet now, which is okay for many, but FIFA is clearly the football simulator now.

I lol'd at that :D Just imagined execs and devs sitting in conference room and pitching ideas like that, to spice up the game. That would be a bald reinvisioning :D

But anyway - probably your right, but ive just never liked sport games.

Fair enough ;)

Sports games are very narrow audience titles, if you don't like the sport there's very little chance you'll like the game. However even although that's the case, most parts of the world are sport crazy about one main sport, or a few.

UK/EU = Football

USA = Baseball/American Football

^ Traditionally, I know there's exception ;)

The UK seems to like Rugby/Cricket as well... Rugby I can deal with, it's the manly version of American Football, eg, hardly any protection, but Cricket? lol, There's a reason why there's no real Cricket games getting made....

I was about to add "I meant next-gen cricket games", but it seems this made it onto the 360,

Obviously it sold like gangbusters and I just missed the headlines.

FIFA 10's presentation? Meh. The audiences are dull, commentary could be much better, off play animations are boring.

Introducing Audience Simulator™, the world first realistic and realtime simulator for Natal. Do you enjoy traveling for 2 hours to reach a stadium on away games? Steer a realistic 2002 family saloon car with the kids in realtime with included slapping functionality for the screaming, crying and pants ****ing kids - Swing your hand in front of natal and hit with pixel precision in the car. Arrive at a packed stadium and wait in line for 30 minutes in the cold, REALTIME!!!!! Hook up an extension cable and take your TV/360 and Natal outside the house in December for even more realism, and be the envy of your street. Once at the game, be thrilled at sitting in the one position for 1 and a half hours whilst watching a real time football game - Your buddies on XBL will be in the crowd as well, interact and share frustrations at your team getting beat over a virtual half time pie, be careful to hold your pie in front of Natal properly and not drop it though! With voice recognition and stewards on patrol, you interactions in the crowd will be picked up by Natals revolutionary sensors and you may be kicked out the stadium, so watch your behaviour! At full time enjoy driving home again in packed traffic with your wife nagging on the phone, making your journey even longer, and remember you'll only get your 1000G if you manage to get home before EastEnders starts!

Really, who gives a **** about crowd animations?

*shrug* I like Cricket. I wouldn't exactly class Baseball or American Football as particularly exciting either. That said...I wouldn't race to buy a cricket game. Infact the only games I may buy from the sports genre that arent racing ones would be ice hockey given I think it as a sport translates well to games.

Someone needs to make a new Rugby game, I haven't played one in ages!

Actually quite a lot of EA sport games this year felt a lot like expansion packs and a refinement, as last year's games were all "major" revamps compared to this year. I never got around to playing the final game of Fifa10 but I did try the demo and even the menu was almost exactly the same. And I'm not saying the menu has to be completely remade or changed, but I mean if you had two consoles set up and two tv's displaying fifa 10 and 09 there'd be barely any differences.

This goes for NHL and NBA too btw.

It's about the immersion factor. It's always upsetting to score a goal and have the crowd roar then realize that it's just the same graphics of people repeated all over the stadium.

On top of that...

PATHETIC PC PORT IS PATHETIC!
