Final Fantasy XIII is 50 to 60 Hours Long

Final Fantasy games are not short. So while big titles from other developers might be clocking in at somewhere between 7 and 9 hours, don't expect a brief Final Fantasy XIII experience. Expect a long haul. In a recent interview, FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama noted, "For XIII, the size of the entire game is considerable. Just running through the main story takes experienced players over 50 hours. For the first time, I think it's possible to play through in full in about 60 hours or so."

Meaty! Players have been waiting three years for this game, and it sounds like they've got a big game ahead of them to experience.

Good to know. I always liked that fact about Final Fantasy games. Reminds me of the FFVII days, when I was levelling up to fight Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon. I can't even remember how many hours I put into that game, but it was certainly over 70. Hopefully FFXIII has some cool optional stuff like that as well.

If you are actually playing the game, it just may be the first PS3 title actually worth paying $100 AU for.

Metal Gear Solid 4, although it was 50 hours to complete, had 45 hours of video :\

Usually a FF game take more than that doing all side quests and getting everything. That is why i love the games. :)

Personally, that's not a plus in my book  God I hate long drawn out single-player games.

You gotta admit though for people that do actually like the genre and the style of gameplay, it does equal pretty good value for money

I remember that too. Mostly because it was 2 months ago that I did it.

My FF game saves:

FF7: 80+ hours

FF12: 180 hours

So yeah, this ain't gonna be over and done with in 60.

FF12: 180 hours?? You got everything right?

Mine was a little over 100 hours and I missed a few summon and stuff.

Wish they would go back to the bog standard turn based battle system of ff1-10. I dont enjoy RPGs that are MMO styled where you can run around and attack. I couldnt play FF12 at all and ive finished pretty much all previous versions of the game.

There's some pretty ridiculous loot in FF12 that takes numerous retries or patience to actually get, for those with the 'I have to collect everything' mindsets :p

FF12 played more like an MMO in places, I can see why it would take some people a lot longer to complete, and mix in the gambit system which adds more complexity. Basically a more complex FF, I knew it would be dumbed right back down again for the masses, personally I really quite enjoyed the change with 12.

this is the main reason i like final fantasy games they give you a lot of game time for the money you spend on them and for the most part are made very well.

I got everything bar a third Ribbon. I underestimated how hard the Level 99 Red Chocobo was, and never tried to spawn him again.

If I remember rightly I feel asleep playing a few times, so you can account at least 15 hours to idle time. But that's still a lot of my time invested.

So, im dumb for liking the Active Battle System?

Has nothing to do with how simple or complex it is, its how fun it is to play, if i wanted to play MMO style battle system i would go play an MMO.

Where did I say you were dumb? I said the game was being dumbed down for the masses, a generalisation that overall in order to appeal to as many people as possible it was IMO quite obvious they wouldn't go with the FF12 style again.

Since like it or not FF12 employed a more complex system than the previous games, it caused a lot of fuss, people didn't like managing all the gambits, people didn't like realtime combat, etc, therefore it was obvious it would be dumbed down.

Don't go looking to take offence out a harmless comment now :p

I myself absolutely LOVED the FF12 fight system. I really hope they won't change it for XIII, atleast not back to the older systems.

Even the gambit system was good, you didn't have to use if you didn't want to, but it helped to automatize some basic "chores" during battle.

From what i gather after watching some short "documentary" trailers is that they have gone back to the Active Battle System from FF7-10 and tweaked it so you can issue multiple commands in one turn. If it really is the ABS of olde this will be a day one purchase for me otherwise it will be a rent with a view to buy if i can get into the battle system.
