+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 5, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 5, 2009 In a interview between 3 Final Fantasy Fansite in Paris with Toshiyuki Itahana (FF IX and Crystal Chronicle Series) ajnd Akitoshi Kawazu (FFI to XII, SaGa series and Crystal Chronicle series), Square Enix developers give their opinions on a FINAL FANTASY VII Remake ! And it's HOT ! Final Fantasy Dream: I play the Final Fantasy series since I was seven years old, and I know that you have not worked on Final Fantasy VII, but honestly, do you really think that episodes FF VII to IX can be redone? Is it your next secret project? Akitoshi Kawazu: No, no, no, no ... (laughs) Someone in the company will carry the remake of FFVII, but not me. But if someone tries to do, it will be a huge project. With the current technical specifications, it would be very difficult, but nice. So can have a chance that FF VII remake, can be announce at the Next E3, at this time, FF XIII will be release worldwide ! You can hear the Podcast in English here : http://www.ffring.com/downloads/divers/27-...terview-tcb.mp3 (the FF VII remake question is at 30:30 ) Source: http://n4g.com/News-438794.aspx
dead.cell
I'd cream my pants for a VII - IX remake. Loved playing those three a lot, despite VIII's storyline. (Y) I liked the ones before VII too, but I've played them enough times back then and today with the DS.
Richard Hammond
So like it has been for the past 2-3 years, just a rumour. All he is saying is that IF someone was to remake FF7 it wont be him, hes not confirmed anything.
Michael1406
Now that FF7 is on PSN and I've just spent 80 hours on it, I'm not bothered about a remake.

I am still hoping for a remake, they bloody teased us about it at E3 :(
gigapixels Veteran Posted December 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 6, 2009 VII would be great, but my favorite was VIII and I'd love to see that redone. However it's not like he said it would happen. He just said he wouldn't do it if it did happen.
hotdog666al
They better not give it a Crisis Core battle system. They "re-made" FF1 and 2 for the PSP and they remained faithful didn't they? Let's hope they don't **** with VII too much, otherwise I will actually die a little inside.
Michael1406
How can you say that! I am still hoping for a remake, they bloody teased us about it at E3 :( FF is all about the gameplay, and the gameplay is mostly about the text and menus. Not entirely fussed about the textures. Kinda wish I got the NTSC, 60hz version though.

Kinda wish I got the NTSC, 60hz version though. I know, FF7 gameplay had the best imo but a remake would really improve it, like the cut scenes where it wasn't FMV would look better! Better animations would be a start! However, I do wish for a FF7 remake, the original will always be awesome in my mind!

Phantom Helix
I personally think an FFVII remake should be just that, a Remake, not a re-imagining. The Materia and Active Battle Systems were fantastic, (Slight additions or organizational changes would be fine) Obviously newly produced Cut-Scenes with updated Graphics, as those used in FF Advent Children Would be a must. And For the love of god Included all the story material from ALL FFVII projects, including all games, Comics, Anime, and Movies all rolled up into one massive story. Darrian
I would love a remake. I was just playing this on ePSXe the other day, and even with all the fancy enhancement filters prettying it up it was still painfully obvious how dated it has become. When it was released it was phenominal, but it's not so much fun to play anymore. I don't even care if they redo it all Advent Children style (though that would be awesome), I'd be happy if they just reencoded all the cutscenes in HD, dug up the original environment materials and changed it so that the engine rendered the environment in realtime instead of it being pre-rendered, changed the fixed camera so we could take full advantage of that, and redid all the character models so that they looked as good as the cutscene models. I don't mind the original cartoony style one bit, so long as it actually looks like a cartoon instead of a blob of differently colored polygons that looks like a LEGO experiment gone wrong. carmatic
like the cut scenes where it wasn't FMV would look better! Obviously newly produced Cut-Scenes with updated Graphics, as those used in FF Advent Children Would be a must. I'd be happy if they just reencoded all the cutscenes in HD, there will be no prerendered cutscenes in this day and age, everything will be rendered realtime, in a single consistent game world... also , the battle system might not change, but the way it looks will probably be heavily altered, you will be fighting in the same location that you encountered the enemy, not in a seperate 'instance' thats merely a representation of the location you are in... back in the PS1 days its meant to show off fancy 3d graphics while still mantaining the feel of the snes-era battle screens... if it were to be done like that nowadays, it will be jarring and disconnected from the rest of the game world and yeah, having a single consistent game world is pretty important, especially the size scales of specific locations with relation to each other and the overworld... so basically what im saying is that the cutscenes, battle screens, and all the parts where you move from one place to the next will be in a single 3d environment
Darrian
While I agree with the sentiment of your post, you speak as if you're an authority on the subject, and unless you work for Square-Enix you aren't. What you expect and what you get may end up being two very different things. Square Enix doesn't remake games very often (in fact, Final Fantasy III for the DS is the only one I can think of off the top of my head). We could get a new game built from scratch, or we could get the same old game with a facelift. Since it hasn't even been confirmed yet I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Belazor
there will be no prerendered cutscenes in this day and age, everything will be rendered realtime, in a single consistent game world... hotdog666al
I REALLY want an FF9 remake... I'd prefer a whole new game, keeping the same 'classic' style as FF9... perhaps giving it a golden gradient numeral also :)

I think if you started a poll some of the top reason fans would want a remake would be to include all the story elements from all other FFVII based material and updated graphics. We just want to experience the game we love in a new way with a fresh set of eyes, not a game close to what we love in another reality on another planet will the battle screen be in a seperate 3d space or will it happen on the actual map the player is on? We Don't know yet, this Game does not yet exist, but you ask the question as if it does and Belazor has some inside info that know one else does

Belazor
will the battle screen be in a seperate 3d space or will it happen on the actual map the player is on? If what we see in the demo is an indication, and I'm looking at it correctly, t's a separate 3D space. However it will be a duplicate of the location the player is on. carmatic
im guessing that the look of a FF7 remake could go 3 ways... an authentic, true to the original remake which would look in place on our modern HDTV's ... this could be as little as having high-res versions of the pictures which made up most of the game world ... a remake which follows the progression of the recent FF games, like a fully 3d game world or it could use a new way of presenting FF games, like overlaying the semi-turn based system from FF7 onto a multiplayer-style consistent game world... kind of like combat half of the 'symbolic encounter system' that they show in the video, but with FF7-style random encounters instead but at the very least , the cutscenes should be done in 3d like that PS3 demo they did back in 2007... DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 7, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 7, 2009 I think I feel the same way about this rumour just like all the people who hate the MGS4/X360 rumour. When will it end!! FF7 (N) I bet even if it was remade, the elitest of you all would all hiss and spit at it because you played the original and how it doesn't match up to it blah blah blah. Just let it go and move on :p
