+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 5, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 5, 2009 Sony's downloadable PSP minis, which launched alongside the company's download-only PSPgo, may be getting a bigger screen treatment, according to a reports that say minis will be playable on the PlayStation 3. Both Pocket Gamer and Joystiq have similar reports about PSP minis support on the PS3. Joystiq cites a "a handful of reliable sources" in its write-up, saying that PSP minis may become PS3 minis as well before the end of the year. Those bite-sized downloadable games are said to get a resolution boost, too, the report says. We've heard from one development source that backs up the story, but adds that minis may not be the only PSP content making the jump to the PlayStation 3. Would PSP playable on the PS3 be something that interests you? Source: http://kotaku.com/5419397/rumor-psp-minis-...ble-on-ps3-soon Makes sense and thumbs up to the "PSN app store" not just being tied to the PSP. PSP games playable on your PS3 would be awesome as well, but are Sony just trying to kill the Go off even more allowing something like that?
The Teej
Surely if the PSP minis are playable, the regular PSP games are too?
chicken-royal
I'd love to play PSP games on the PS3. Just for the MGS ones really. Not buying a PSP just to play like 2 games though. :p

The Teej
Surely? Why surely? You assume the licensing and DRM are the same? No, I'm assuming the emulation techniques would be the same... recreating every PSP mini for the PS3 is a herculean task, and unless "PS3 minis" aren't applied retroactively and it's all done by recompiling it in the SDK to make it compatible for the PS3 (which, is somewhat possible), then emulation seems to be the only thing that springs to mind which allows this to be possible. And considering the PSP Minis are the same as regular PSP games... it would make sense for this to also work on regular PSP games.

Not really as clear cut as that, minis are like small bitesize games, like most of the things on the iPhone app store. PSP games are more fleshed out, the most obvious reasons to buy a PSP pretty much. Doing minis on PS3 has less of a chance to stop people buying PSPs than doing PSP games. Remember the PSP does still have TV-Out capabilities. Also, "a handful of reliable sources" in its write-up, saying that PSP minis may become PS3 minis as well before the end of the year. Those bite-sized downloadable games are said to get a resolution boost, too, the report says. Points to either a) Emulation which will include scaling of some sorts b) Possibility of actual PS3 minis store with devs having the ability to rejiggle PSP minis to have PS3 support as well - In other words not emulation from Sony, but it's up to the devs with tools to make it easy to port maybe?
