Xilo
I'm guessing no one in here has used Steam before  4GB-10GB downloads are common. Dragon's Age was a 16GB dowload... LingeringSoul 1 Share
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 6, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 6, 2009 Isn't the PSN speed limited by the older PS3 network cards?? they were capped at some absurd speed weren't they? PS3's NIC has always been gigabit, so no. You can do a speed test on PSN from FW 3.0, it's in the network settings.

x9248
I guess some members with certain ISP's aren't ready for something like this. This really shows how some companies/countries are way behind others. I personally have no problems downloading from PSN.

This really shows how some companies/countries are way behind others. I personally have no problems downloading from PSN. Well with Australia it isn't really a matter of the country being behind but rather what happens when one company has too much power. With no real competition there was no incentive to offer faster speeds or better pricing, you either paid the demanded price or do without. That has changed now and the government is coming down hard and we are starting to catch up with the rest of the world. We will never ever get true "unlimited" downloads like many other countries have enjoyed for years but at least the caps now are becoming more reasonable. DDStriker
How exactly is a 10Gb download stupid? You're trying to tell me people have problems downloading 10GB? I'm pretty sure there's people pulling down TB's a month on PCs. Heck there's stuff on steam that would probably put you near/over 10GB, most if not all HD movies do, and the pirates who love downloading 360 games download 7~8GB ISOs. Start downloading and tell your PS3 to turn off when finished, do it over night, there you go. normal plan here is around 12GB/25GB month for cable no problems downloading from steam (free bandwidth and 3MB/sec~ :D) problem is PSN is slow from australia For those of you who say you have a slow PSN connection then it's you, not the PSN. I have a great connection to them, yet I have free TalkTalk Internet. It wouldn't fit on my 80GB HDD anyway as I only have 11GB left. Don't assume psn is in the clear because it works well for you PSN is slow their is no doubt about that infact as strange as it is when i use a us account to connect from psn it actually runs faster then when i say i'm from australia...kind of funny if you think about it :p i have a rather decent internet connection (despite bandwidth) and the psn speed isn't that great (or maybe my expectations are to high? i think the last game i downloaded took about 30 minutes for 400MB so around 228KB/sec...will need to confirm that)

I feel your pain man, When Verizon FIOS came about Time Warner Cable (my ISP) gave people a free speed upgrade in order to compete. However, FIOS isn't available in all states so those of us who have no options were left at the original speed before the upgrade. Even still tho the download speed is still acceptable. My PS3 maxes out what I have easily... Bayonetta is pretty fun XD

I was just talking in a thread where I was really shocked by Australia's internet speeds and stuff, but I didn't know what caused all that. It seemed rather outrageous. I'm glad to hear that they're working to improve it though.
Belazor
I just yanked down a 9GB HD movie in just south of 2 hours. Sometimes, I love this country (Norway) :p Price may be a bit steep for some (approx. ?40/mo for 17.5 Mbit) but considering the general wages in this country it's really not that expensive. Oh, and did I mention that there's no monthly caps (no matter what cheap ass backwater ISP you get), and ISPs aren't legally allowed to hold your user data long enough for the police to bust you for torrenting movies?:DD --- 9GB would have to be a multi-day effort for me, my PS3 is a 60GB noisy little bugger and it's about 45 centimetres away from my head at night:pp

Because PSN download speeds are terribly slow in my area, several friends with PS3s report the same results. I can set the same demo to download from PSN and Xbox Live, and have the Live demo in 1/3rd of the time. I'd blame my config if I had not heard similar reports from friends. I never said it was a problem for people to download 10gb, I said it would be agonizing via PSN, but thanks for using your standard method of mischaracterizing peoples statements and taking a single point out of context. I look forward to your Sony Turbo Defense Mode reply...

x9248
Quick question since this is so big: Does PS3 downloads support resume? If so, even if the purchase wasn't from my own account?

The average person in the US has a 5Mbps internet connection, so 10GB is not exactly an appealing prospect. The digital format doesn't seem appropriate for this game. -Spenser

PC games and Blu Ray movies often reach near that level if not over and I hardly see anyone on Neowin making topics about how they can't stand to download 10GB. A terrible game that uses ps2-era graphics and high res dialog images of anime chicks with big boobs and already got horrible reviews for the xbox version? Save your disk space. I'd more so avoid it for the price, $44 lol.

red.
Well, this is the thing. People still find 10GB too much which makes these other people saying that we should be moving to digital distribution a bit premature.
soniqstylz
Maybe because it's an obscure strategy RPG that would probably have a shelf life of half a day in Gamestop before "Jungle FPS number 274" took it's place. Digital distribution offers the ability for titles to always remain on the "storefront", and it obviously doesn't cost the devs all the packaging. Siren was eventually offered on Blu Ray, but it was digital only first I presume until it sold enough to show it might be viable on disc. It does, however, cost the devs bandwidth. soniqstylz
high res dialog images of anime chicks with big boobs sold! Wait, we don't get the boob mousepad for download. There's the reason to stay away.
Sikh
You know I saw this game behind the counter and saw the box and everything, this is not a T rated game... Its rated T... Well the xbox "limited edition" version we have has T on it. If you look at the whole box, it alone screams Anime Hentai and other BS. I cant believe its even being sold in the US.. Sorry but keep fetishes out of video games. AS far as a 10GB download goes, its been done before on PSN with Top Siren like AB said. I dont see many people downloading this, but again you have the TRUE RPG Players and then the PERVs. Just like the Leisure Suite Larry Series that sold so much because of the perverted people needing to see boobs on the PS2 and now even 360/PS3. Its a joke. sold! Wait, we don't get the boob mousepad for download. There's the reason to stay away. Haha nope, its for the PC people so they can surf porn, while having there hand on the prize... or wrist. Whatever floats the boat ;).
