Sethos
Hey, I'm currently setting up my surround sound which requires me to use the AV connector trick, I somehow lost my Audio Dongle from the Elite and now I just removed the plastic shell from a normal Component cable and plugged in the Toslink but it's not working. So question is, do I need to plug the Component / L+R cables into the TV so it goes active or should it still work with none of the cables connected? I also tried an unofficial Logic3 VGA cable with same result but haven't hooked up any of them, as getting behind my TV is a real drag and I'd rather avoid it, in case that isn't the problem. RatherLargeBear
It should work how you have set it up. Try another optical cable if possible.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 5, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 5, 2009 Daft question but it's set up right on 360 yeah? Audio might be trying to pass over HDMI. Just a word of warning when doing that trick don't change the TV input, when you switch back to the 360 it'll reset the console - Just a side affect of this method. Prince Charming
Be wary of the optical cables - they are so easy to break without even realising.
Sethos
Yeah, everything is set up correctly but still no go. I tried plugging it into the PS3 with the same result, so that's pretty conclusive. My "Home cinema" surround set is pretty old and I've had to use a Coaxial -> TOSLINK converter box which I've a few problems with in the past, like no audio would pass through and then just messing about with the wires a bit would sort it ... This time though, it doesn't seem to work at all - Might have to invest in a new one. Thanks for the help guys, not much else I can do at this point. Waylander
why not get a new receiver? ones without truehd/dtshd onboard are quite cheap and even basic models with onboard decoders (onkyo 507/577) don't cost a huge amount of money

Just for interest to those reading this thread, there IS a way to "fix" that particular issue, it requires the cutting of a single wire inside the metal casing of the AV cable, but it does stop the console resetting. I did this before, but if possible I'd recommend just getting a good receiver with HDMI input.
