Runner up, Uncharted 2.

Sorry no poll, cba trying to include everyone's choices, Neowin might do an official one. You haven't decided yet? No sweat, just post later :)

youtube is blocked at work but I'm assuming it's Demon's Souls? Decent choice - good mix of classic old-school difficulty and a progressive modern online play.

However, I think Uncharted 2 blows it away purely due to its cinematics (DS bosses are impressive but nothing beats that getting-to-the-top-of-the-hotel moment in U2, imo), storyline, script-writing and ease of access.

I agree with all of that, however, atmospherics/mood, tension and challenge are what put DS in #1 for me. Yeah stick UC2 on crushing and you can die 300 times at the same point for lulz, but I really enjoyed playing a game where the difficulty doesn't require reaction times of a ninja and tons of luck, it's just slow and methodical and any mistakes made are your own 90% of the time, not god mode AI.

Also I seriously doubt I'd play through UC2 4 times within a short space of time, I am however on New Game ++++ with DS ;)

Plus it's always good fun not bandwagon humping the game the masses will vote for

1st) Uncharted 2

Very Close 2nd) Assassins Creed 2

Reason Uncharted 2 wins over AC2 is I genuinely had a great fun experience playing it the entire time. It truly is incredibly well paced and structured. And while for the most part I can say the same about AC2, it does have a few moments that I consider to be slow and that I wish were not part of the overall experience. That and I am probably close to 18-20 hours in with AC2, and I am not yet done, and I just prefer some closure after that much time. That and I feel like Uncharted mixed it up a decent amount, and while AC2 also does try, it is not as succesful at doing so. Once you have seen 10 rooftops in AC2, you have pretty much seen them all.

Same here. I think so much of Assassin's Creed seems to be artificial filler (going back to the villa every hour to collect your money, loading screens, pointless missions). I think AC2 is definitly better than AC1, I'm enjoying it, but i played through Uncharted three times no problem, and enjoyed each time. I think it'll be a while before I go back through AC2 even one more time, maybe just before AC3 comes out.

I'd probably go Batman, inFamous, and Killzone 2 to round out my top 5.

By only going with Games I have played I would have to give that to Either Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) or New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Based on sheer fun, my top 5 for the year:

1) Uncharted 2

2) Left 4 Dead 2

3) Shadow Complex

4) inFamous

5) Arkham Asylum

I have not played AC2 but since everyone's raving about it I think I'll rent it soon

Biggest disappointment of the Year: Uncharted II - What a terrible game.

Exactly how is it terrible? Seems like flame bait considering most of the replies have included it as GotY or runner up.

Just add Assassins Creed in there at #2 and switch some of the games up a few places and I agree 110% with your list actually. (EDIT- Actually I would also include GTAIV - TBOGT)

I pretty much always base my experience on sheer fun, as to me that is why I play games, to have fun.

Borderlands I guess. Nothing has really stood out this year for me....spent more time in L4D1 than any other combined I'd say. I haven't played enough L4D2 to comment on that yet but after several hours I think the games lost something along the way...maybe too many areas are too open or something for my liking.
