sambrentnall
Out of the games I've played mine has to be Uncharted 2, completely love that game!! As for biggest disappointment, mines Fat Princess...
Livin in a box
Uncharted 2 all the way. Great storyline, a great mixture of events, superb graphics and excellent cinematics. This is the first game I've bought that I've enjoyed as much as this. Really.
Vortex566
Batman:AA without a shadow of a doubt. Wish I had a PS3 to have played Uncharted 2. I guess that will have to wait until the new year. Here is a good question what about biggest disappointment? COD:MW2 or KZ2 for me....
gigapixels Veteran Posted December 9, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 9, 2009 (edited) So I finally picked up NSMB and it is fantastic! If it's not my GOTY it's in the top three. Here is a good question what about biggest disappointment? COD:MW2 or KZ2 for me.... There's a thread for that!™ https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=853708 Edited December 9, 2009 by gigapixels
soniqstylz
I've now finished AC2, and I take it back, my GOTY list is off. AC2 is now #3. The platforming was just akward, inFamous was better in that regard (I point to destructoid's review where they referred to Ezio jumping around like a spastic monkey, that sums it up for me), and the ending just seemed anticlimactic. What a weak final boss battle. If that's close to how AC1 ended, I'm glad I didn't finish it. It's a good game, but I enjoyed Batman front to back more. What a weak final boss battle. If that's close to how AC1 ended, I'm glad I didn't finish it. It's a good game, but I enjoyed Batman front to back more. You know what, I think I am now right there with you. I originally said in this thread Uncharted 2 followed by Assassins Creed 2 in a close second, but I am trying to make my way through AC2 and I am not sure if I am even going to make it. I just want it to end already. I just did the whole Carnivale thing, and that was just stupid. TBH the more I play it the less I am impressed. I have not died or had to restart ONCE on a single main assassination, I just run past all of the guards etc., take out the main guy, then run right past all of the guards. In Venice I figured out almost instantly if you jump in the water, no matter how many people are after you, dive under water and boom, you are safe again. Just pretty damn stupid. In fact the only time I have really died, and it has been a damn good amount, is thanks to the sometimes awkward platforming and falling from to high. I just feel like the game should have been over by now, and nothing at all is challenging anymore as I go on. I have Altairs armor as well, so besides doing some of the same old side missions, I am just feeling like I am not even sure if I have the desire to go on. Honestly I would have loved an entire game of the tombs. The puzzle platforming is where it is at for me. I truly did / do enjoy it.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 10, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 10, 2009 Ahem this guy is trying to beat me  Let me tell you about Demon's SoulsDemon's Souls is a game that will make you into a man. A scrawny fourteen-year-old, after two hours with this game, will be grooming his muttonchops and ready to ship off on the next boat to fight the Kaiser. If you are already a man, it will make you into some sort of bizarre double-man. What's that you say? You're a woman? You don't want to be a man? Too bad. Too bad. That's the Demon's Souls way. You've probably heard that Demon's Souls is hard. Pshh. Lots of games are hard. Some are even harder than this one. The difficulty is not the point. What sets Demon's Souls apart is the way that it doesn't just kill you, but also stomps on your genitals when you're down. And it will make you realize that that's what you needed all along. It's a lot like life. Sometimes in life you win, and sometimes the giant armored skeleton stabs your face off because the flying mantis monster you didn't even see shot you in the back with a spike at just the wrong time. And when that happens in life, do you respawn at the same spot and carry on like nothing happened? NO, *******. You go back to the beginning of the level, leaving all your hard-earned souls out there on the pavement, and you fight your way back. And you learn a lesson from the whole thing, because you should have been wearing your Thief's Ring, now shouldn't you? That's life. The trend in hard games these days is to unlock "Easy" mode for you once you've died enough times. Do you think Demon's Souls does that? Do you think Demon's Souls is so much as aware of the concept of "Easy" mode? NO IT IS NOT. If Demon's Souls even knew we were talking about "Easy" mode, it would come over here and kick the **** out of all of us. And we would deserve it. I'll tell you what happens in Demon's Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That's right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because **** you is why. Have I told you about the online elements? At any time when you're in Body form, another player from anywhere else in the world can invade your game and murder you to regain his own body, or just to keep you on your toes. This happens when you're in the middle of fighting armies of unthinkable monsters that are probably already three-quarters of the way towards killing you. And no, you cannot opt out of this feature! This is what you signed up for when you agreed to be a man. When this happened to me -- when a guy strolled into my game like it was Taco Bell and exploded my torso, costing me my body and all my progress in the level -- was I mad? No, because I was too busy being in awe at how ****ing hardcore the experience was. Now, don't let this dissuade you. Demon's Souls is a pitiless master, but let it never be said that it is not fair. The game rewards handsomely those who stand up to it, and the greater the challenge, the greater the glory. What the hell are you waiting for? I sort of agree, I did finish it and am still going for the extra stuff (feathers and all the sidequests) and I'm still loving the vibe and freerunning but the only thing that let's this game down is the lack of difficulty, it would've been so much better if they threw in a 'hard' mode or something. I really hate it when I outrun the guards in less than 10 seconds, where's the tension in getting away after a high profile kill? just run up a wall, jump across 2 rooftops and duck in a little kiosk and they just give up looking for you, not very fun or believable, taking the guards on in a fight is no more challenging either, block, wait for attack, counter, repeat. Seems this is the way Ubisoft is taking their games anyway, the last Prince of Persia, while amazing to play, also was way way too easy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they don't dumb down Splinter Cell as well now.
Minifig
Previously released: WoW. Patch 3.3 is a Godsend .. I love the random pug thing. Unreleased.. new to this year? Batman AA. I had a blast with it, and I'm probably going to go through it again -very- soon.
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 11, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 11, 2009 I've not decided 100% but I definitely think a couple of the 3rd partys got it right this year way more than the exclusives did. So for now my GOTYs are Borderlands and Batman Arkham Asylum. I'll probably add a few more to my list as I get time to play them more over the next few weeks on my vacation. Unsure on the order though, really hard to decide.
WastedJoker
not really sure about all the love for Borderlands. It is really dull :( Batman AA is amazing though and it's a shame the CE batarang was a pile of monkey sperm
daty2k1
I'd say Demon's Souls then Uncharted 2. Uncharted was really cool but there's something special with Demon's Souls. Finished it twice in a row. My current playtime is 76+ hours and I loved every minute of it
soniqstylz
I sort of agree, I did finish it and am still going for the extra stuff (feathers and all the sidequests) Get all the feathers. That sort of unlocks "hard mode" (by giving you the Auditiore cape, which gives you automatic full noteriety that you can't get rid of).

Spookie
How long then till the definitive* GoTY VGA awards are on then? (*May not be definitive, maybe full of fluff with dull trailers we could careless about, may consist of paid off opinions from 'veteran journalists', may also include 'celebrities' looking bored out of their mind having to spend time with social outcasts and presenters who couldn't make it on to a proper TV show.) metal_dragen Veteran Posted December 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 13, 2009 I'm much like others in that I can never just give it to one game, so I'll do my own top five, in no particular order Shadow Complex Defense Grid: The Awakening Brutal Legend Forza 3 Fallout 3 DLC I'd throw Bioshock in there as well since I just picked up a used copy recently after they released the GoD and the demo on the Live Marketplace, so I finally got to see what the hype was about 2 years ago - and boy was it totally worth it.
