PS3 System Software Update ? 3.15

b>Hi Guys

The next system software update for PS3 will be available very soon. Update 3.15 is an optional update and has two key features which are explained below ??'minis' come to PS3:

4169307554_ac9525a328_o.jpg

We launched minis on PSN back in October in conjunction with the PSPgo, but in the next couple of weeks you will be able to enjoy these bite size games on your PS3 as well as your PSP.

Check out great titles like 'Blast off' (8.5/10 ? IGN), 'Fieldrunners', "a wonderfully crafted casual nugget" (8/10 ? Eurogamer) or 'Kahoots', "a must-buy" (8/10 ? Videogamer).

There is something for everyone with minis, whether you want to play them on the go with your PSP or in the comfort of your home on PS3.

If you have already brought a mini for PSP and want to get it on your PS3 as well, just go to your download list in the Store and download it again for free. The game will then work on your PS3 as well. SimpPS3 Data Transfer:nsfer:

This feature enables you to easily transfer all of your saved data from one PS3 to another. So if you decide to get a new PS3 you can make sure you don't loose any of your existing content. Content such as games, game save data, and videos downloaded from PlayStation Network can be transferred to the new PS3 system and deleted from the current PS3. Other content, including personal media files (photos, music, videos), can be copied onto the new PS3 and remain on the current PS3 system.

The process is really simple

  1. Turn both the current PS3 (A) and new PS3 (B) on and connect them with a LAN cable; PS3 (A) should be connected to the TV
  2. On the XMB of PS3 (A), scroll to the Settings menu and select [system Settings] and then [Data Transfer Utility]
  3. Follow the instructions on-screen and transfer data
  4. After transferring the data, follow the instructions on-screen, and then connect PS3 (B) to the TV to view the XMB
  5. If content that was downloaded from PlayStation Store was transferred as part of this operation, you must activate PS3 (B) before you can use the data. Log in to the PS3 system as the user who owns the content, and then select (PlayStation Network) > (Account Management) > (System Activation) to activate the system

Look forward to your comments and will reply to as many questions as I can.

Thanks

James

Bluetooth controller syncing is fixed in this update as well.

Apparently locked save game files can now be transferred (through PS3 -> PS3 method), but they will be deleted off the PS3 they are transferred from. Good timing for me getting my Slim, Demons Souls has a locked save ;)

Good that you can transfer them but that sucks if they are deleted from one of the PS3s. They should sync and keep the save file in both PS3s.

Well we need to see what linked by an ethernet cable means, if it means through a router as well you could just swap saves between your PS3s in your house pretty easily.

Obviously if it's direct ethernet connection they both need to be together. Either way it's a better backup method than what we currently have.

Yeah at least it's better. Sometimes I'm start a game in my home office and want to continue playing it in my bedroom but I can't because the save file is locked.

Good.

When I went home this was very annoying when I was trying to play!

Yeah I feel your pain I have been dealing with my controller pairing issues since the last big firmware update and its rather annoying to have to sit there with the cord plugged in while playing Little Big planet or modern Warfare 2.

imo sony should add a ftp backup/restore feature, nas boxes are quite common now and it would make it a simple way to back up your content before a hdd or console change

Can you show me where this is confirmed? All that I've read is that it's strongly rumoured.

Devs and people who know what they're talking about on NeoGAF (broke the new of FW 3.15 before Sony even posted). Sony haven't confirmed it though, guess you'll just need to wait 2 days and see if its a nasty rumour that would be pointless making

locked saves prevents game exploitation or simply restricting a point in a game or content, in which one would have no business experiencing cause you simply haven't met the prerequisite. so whats to stop anyone from using someone else's save to achieve something you'd otherwise haven't earned/achieved.

locked saves are fine. now not having a more secure way to back them up in case of hardware failure without actually needing to spend another $300 as somewhat a failsafe, is unacceptable.

as for the update, i welcome any update. but saddens me to not have multi-chat yet.

External HDD.

If I'm not mistaken, I'll have to check my external drive, but I don't think backing up transfers saves. And if you transfer manually, it will let you play the save, but trophies won't be available. I could be wrong, tho, but last time I checked, my external drive's saves folder was empty.

:)

and

Some quick and dirty PS3 Minis impressions:

-Kahoots, the game I tested, actually ran a LOT better on the PS3 than on the PSP. Going into the credits menu results in a quick transition, which was choppy on the PSP but smooth as butter on the PS3. Very, very noticeable. Not sure on gameplay performance just yet as it's a slower paced game. Load times are also much faster on PS3.

-The text in the PS3 version shows some font artifacting. It's present in the PSP version, but not very noticeable until you blow it up on the PS3. You can tell via the pics below.

-You might think blowing a 480x272 resolution up to a 1920x1080 would result in disaster for a 2d sprite based game...but it actually looked pretty good. You can tell it's being up-res'd, but it's fine really. Much better than I thought.

-No options like the PS1 emulator. There is a black border around the picture but it's not nearly as bad as running a PSP game via component cables.

Some pics, with the PSP version on top and PS3 on bottom:
