DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 8, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2009 So as the title says, I am wondering if there is a way to Mute all players on XBox Live? Even better, is there is a way to mute everyone other than who is on my friends list? I am trying to avoid having to manually mute what at times winds up being the entire lobby in MW2 games, so was just wondering if there was an easy way to enable this so I can still play those modes in MW2 that do not support Party Chat. I know I am going to miss out on hearing those certain people who may actually be okay and being a team player, etc., however I would rather take that chance and have an easy way to not deal with the morons that tend to populate this one game in particular. Sethos
AJ just asked me the same, it's in Privacy Settings ( Can also be changed on Xbox.com ) "Text & Speech" set that to friends only. Now everyone else will be muted until they are on your friends list.

habnad
I did not know of this hidden gem. Thanks! It's only a hidden gem if it actually works. Can anyone test this in game to see if it does auto-mute the rest of the (as DL put it) "morons"? Yeah AJ told me, well did not tell me you told him, but I did really think that it only applied to messages which is why I started a thread about it. Nice if that is really all it takes. I tested it, but I have no friends :( Well you have me, but I am currently working. (N) Doubt it, since he's playing with a few friends, he'd like to hear what they are saying. Bingo. habnad
@ Larry, was working on telling you Sethos told me, but got side-tracked if it was going to actually work or not.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 8, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2009 Yep sweet, right from XBox Live. Voice and TextDecide who you communicate with using voice and text on Xbox LIVE. Voice and text communications on Xbox LIVE include chat, messages, and game invites. If you block voice and text, you will still receive system messages and friend requests. @ Larry, was working on telling you Sethos told me, but got side-tracked if it was going to actually work or not. Yep no biggie. Now people who might be wondering about this and Googling it have a quick, easy way to find out.

____
But now how are you going to keep up with what rap songs are hottest among the 12-16 yr old white male demographic if they can't sing them for you while you wait for a game to start? DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 8, 2009 Author Veteran Share Posted December 8, 2009 It's working, just tested it - Microphone icons still shows up but it's completely silent :) (Y) Nice. Thanks again. I just changed it through Live and it says could take upwards of 4 hours for the change to be reflected on your console, so will just double check if and when I sign on later. But now how are you going to keep up with what rap songs are hottest among the 12-16 yr old white male demographic if they can't sing them for you while you wait for a game to start? Yep. Exactly. ;)

Sethos
Changed my mic to friends only a few minutes past midnight on November 10th! I can understand the reasoning behind eliminating party chat in games like S&D but TDM? It's very easy for a bunch of friends to work together and create an impenetrable defence in TDM, so easy to shift a TDM match to your advantage by having the entire team camp out the right spots and set up a proper perimeter. And why would party chat have anything to do with that? You can speak at all times in TDM anyway, and it's respawn. The only mode that party chat should be disabled is S&D, where there is no respawn. Yeah, the friends only mic thing is nice, but you probably won't make any new friends so you gotta be happy with the ones you've got!
