Although it's funny to see how a certain console exclusive franchise was left out. ;)

Although it's funny to see how a certain console exclusive franchise was left out. ;) Sorry for the links But yeah I found the list to be refreshing, giving props to Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Braid, Portal etc...games that flew under peoples radar due to lack of marketing or whatever the case. Also glad to not see the shallow games that fill up almost every other list :)

Spookie
Err, that was supposed to read "console exclusive franchises with a shoddy PC port" :p Oh I knew that wouldn't be in there. I was thinking more of the: "Rabid 360 exclusive shooters with a fanbase of mouth breathers". Glad CoD4 is in there as that, while it didn't pioneer the whole RPG elements of online shooters, it certainly refined the experience.
kl33per
In a few weeks, it will NOT be the end of the first decade of the 21st century, but the start of the final year of the first decade of the new century. Seriously, it's simple freaking maths. I would argue that Deus Ex should by higher on the list, except that it should not be their at all seeing as it came out in the year 2000, the last year of the decade prior to the one we are in now. The first decade in the common era ran from 1 CE to 10 CE. Consequently, the current decade runs from 2001 CE to 2010 CE. Let's make a new list a year from now. ThaCrip
number #1 should have been (but for it to not even make the list, especially when looking at single player games is a joke but i do sort of like how that game basically went under the radar as it wipes the floor with alot of other more mainstream shooter type games. it's definitely better than the GTA series)... 1.Mafia (2002) (on PC) (that's easily my pick for best SINGLE PLAYER game of the decade) ... because i still like playing it from time to time even to this day which i can't say about a high percentage of other single player games like GTA series which i beat once and never care enough to go back to. that game (i.e. Mafia) is a true masterpiece, not one of those 'so-called' masterpieces that the mainstream reviewers claim for random games that are not. Mafia feels like a quality mob film playing out. Mafia's graphics are a fairly dated vs today's games but there not dated enough to ruin the overall feel of the game as they are at least still up to a certain standard. Mafia's strength is story/characters/gameplay.... which most games i typically don't care about the story or characters all that much as there's MAYBE a handful of games out there that i actually care about the characters/story in. but i think most 'kids of today' (i am 30 myself. i would have been about 22-23 when i first played it) can't appreciate the masterpiece that Mafia (2002) (ON PC!) is simply because there initial impression will be like 'those graphics suck' and immediately write the game off as bad. (the graphics of the game around the time it came out where some of the best out there though) i think anyone who can appreciate a quality mob film (or film for that matter) AND generally likes shooter type games will probably think Mafia stands out from your average 'good game'. and for the record... a high percentage of those games on that list can't hold a candle to Mafia imho. (there's maybe a handful (roughly 5) on that list that are worth playing in my book. because for me something has to be pretty good to even play it and out of the ones i play and finish only a select few make the 'well above average' level and even fewer than that reach masterpiece level... in fact, Mafia is probably the only game over the last decade i would consider a true masterpiece because of the 'film like' quality to it along with it being a solid game with great gameplay.) p.s. Forza 1 or 2 or 3 should also be on that list.... especially as far as racing games are concerned as there the cream of the crop for serious gamers. Rudy
Civilization III in the list but not 4? wtf
Vice
I think had valve released Left 4 Dead with everything Left 4 Dead has (Melee weapons and such) it could have edged in to the top 20. But I would agree with their assessment of Half Life 2, that game was amazing. Their first choice however .. never even heard of that game until today. red.
Civilization III in the list but not 4? wtf I was thinking that too. I preferred IV to III. Either way, it's good to see it on the list. KOTOR too. Although i think both should have been higher. But good list otherwise.

John Freeman
1.Mafia (2002) (on PC) While im not entirely sure about it should have been #1 it should have been definitely been on the list. I mean, wow! Also my inner fanboy happy to see so many Valve games up there. Maybe L4D should have been replaced with L4D2. Thou L4D broke the ground, and made the name, L4D2 is everything it should have been.
M_Lyons10
Interesting list. I'm glad to see Skies of Arcadia on there. What an amazing game... I'm amazed that Sega didn't build a franchise on top of that game. I had so much fun with that game...
LOC Veteran Posted December 9, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 9, 2009 Great to not see Halo :) In the other hand... no mass effect? really? Frankly Mass Effect wasn't all that great like everyone thinks it was. Certainly not one of Bioware's best games. Then again I was playing BG1&2 and had high expectations for it. Hopefully Mass Effect 2 will be better, considering how good Dragon Age was. Personally I feel Half-Life 2 should have been #1. I can't see how SotC beats out HL2....seriously? neocongirl
The list is horrible, no Oblivion? GTA Vice City and IV? KOTOR 2? Mafia? Assassin's Creed? STALKER? There is a lot of gamers that think Oblivion, GTA IV and Assasins Creed are 7ish/10 at best. Oblivion, I thought, was very shallow and I didn't like the leveling up system. GTA IV didn't break any new ground and was imo inferior to GTA SA and Assassins Creed, while looking pretty, was horribly repetitive...I don't see why it should make any list of top games. red.
The list is horrible, no Oblivion? GTA Vice City and IV? KOTOR 2? Mafia? Assassin's Creed? STALKER? KOTOR II wasn't really that great. Very buggy when it came out and the story wasn't very good either. It wasn't as good as the first one. Vice City was amazing though and should have been there instead of San Andreas. Pretty sure a decade is technically just 10 years and you could go from 1986 to 1995 or whatever if you really wanted. Given that, games from 2000 are fine. After a ll, a list of games released over the past decade would be a bit redundant if they only considered 9 of the 10 years.

Massiveterra
I'm really surprised that Final Fantasy ix is on this list. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but it brought nothing new to the table. It's like they felt obligated to put a final fantasy title in this list.
