Biggest game disappointment of 2009

Recommended Posts

The only reason I'm saying MW2 is because of the HORRIBLE pc multiplayer gameplay right now due to "merging to new host" bull**** and the enormous amount of cheaters going unpunished, I love the multiplayer gameplay otherwise.

Silent Hill games always kinda sucked to me. never got into em at all, and the movie... oh god that was painful.

Anyway NFS:Shift - the car handling is just horrid on that game.

MW2 way below expection experience wise

due to short Story length

it just scream in the player face "WAIT FOR THE NEXT GAME ALREADY DAMMIT!"

Going to go out on a limb here and say L4D2, it honesty feels like L4D to me. I do enjoy it but it's just the same old stuff I mean the dynamic paths consist of about a handful of variations that don't differ greatly and the new infected while a nice addition still feel incomplete.

However if you gave me L4D2 with L4D1 levels that would be nice at least I could reminisce with No Mercy.

I will also put a vote in for MW2 story, talk about order of magnitude decrement in quality from MW1. I am going to use the Yahtzee quote, "written by 5 year old's, for 5 year old's.". Plus the awful length didn't help much, completed in 4 and a bit hours, I spent longer on Spec-Ops than I did singleplayer.

MW2 is the best example of a developer being paid by publisher to gimp the game for PC so people will buy it for xBoX. Then to top it all off they raise the price to 59.99 for PC when usually console games are 59.99, and the reason console games are $10 dollars higher is the licensing fee the game developer has to pay micro$oft and $ony. PC gamers never had to pay this extra because there is no licensing fee for the PC, so the $10 dollars you paid extra went right into the greedy pockets of Activi$ion.

So ya, my vote is for MW2 as the biggest disappointment of 2009. Not only did they manage to make a game that is probably #1 on this list, but it also will make me weary of ever buying a game by Activi$ion ever again.

Painkiller Resurrection

This is a definite possibility for me as well. I was so excited when i first heard about it, then when I actually played it it was god awful, and it turns out it is mostly comprised of levels made by fans? It somehow also looks way worse graphically then the first game that came out how many years ago now? But with that said....

Hands down Modern Warfare 2.

The reason it is the worse game of the year is because of how so many millions of people think otherwise. We can now expect dozens of MW2 clones and MP that is no longer about competition and just about what can be outrageous and not actually fair to play. I actually checked last night, I can get $35 trade in credit through Gamefly, and am heavily considering doing so.

Modern Warfare 2, Bionic Commando and Resident Evil 5 (Saw it coming but it could have been so much better). Come to think of it the year has been fairly bland over all! :s

Yeah actually I was just thinking this last night. A lot of media outlets have talked about how this has been one of the best years for gaming, and I just have to scratch my head, as looking back on it it has actually been fairly weak.

Sounds like the cries of two people who avoided Demons Souls

On a more serious note 2010 will be the best year since 1998 at the rate it's going.

Depends on what you like, personally I think it has been a fantastic year with games like ArmA II, Empire: Total War and Men of War just to name a few - All games I've posted hundreds of hours into.

I haven't avoided it, I just refuse to play it till I get another PS3.

Depends how you look at it, it wasn't a good year for games. But gaming as a whole is coming on leaps and bounds. It's making more money that film now. :/

The new Tekken, really didn't like it

Surprising!! :o

I actually am loving Tekken, but my view is admittedly skewed (i've been playing the franchise's releases since Tekken 2).

What was it about 6 that you didn't like? The character reaction tweaks/refinements? Moveset tampering? Off-the-wall story?

Personal worst for me this year a 2-way tie:

#1. Dragon Ball: Raging Blast - What can I say about this title? Touted earlier on this year as the re-envisioning of the 'Sparking' ('Tenkaichi' for the English-language region releases) franchise, all it ended up being was another release of the same with a few improvements/add-ons (HD-upscaled graphics, a few more destructable aspects of the stages, longer transformation animations). As a long-standing DB fan, I was insulted @ the X360 & PS3 releases of this blasphemy...

#2. Tony Hawk Ride - This was an absolute trainwreck. It begin with the concept that they attempt to bring the Wii-peripheral novelty/gimmick to the X360. The concept: Build a skateboard peripheral that lets players simulate skateboarding in their living rooms. The result: half-functioning hardware that fails to function with consistency and a shallow game devoid of excitement. Vert skating and free skating are the only sources of mild enjoyment here, but the fun is too short lived to justify the whopping $120 price tag.

Street Fighter 4. Played through it once, and the music was so annoying I never wanted to play it again.

Did you try changing the voice-over and score settings back into the original japanese versions?

Gotta be Brutal Legend.

Started off Okay, cameos were fun. But then it stuck it's middle finger up at me and turned into a really poor console RTS.

What a kick in the teeth.

Exactly, I was having a lot of fun at the start, then suddenly it turned into a weird game, and I just stopped playing.

I am probably the only person who likes MW2.. lol. I do get annoyed from time to time by stupid ass campers and now the freaking javelin glitch. I have no dissapointing games that I bought this year. I liked every game that I have bought.
