Biggest game disappointment of 2009

Recommended Posts

Resident Evil 5 is definitely up near the top of my list. I loved RE4 on the PC, and despite using pretty much the same game for RE5, they somehow managed to screw it up.

MAG is another game on there. I was glued to it when I first saw the trailer for it. Then when I played the beta, it was such a letdown. The gameplay was just bog-standard and the graphics were modern-day bland.

L4D is a multiplayer game you play with friends, its not a single player game you play to "advance" or "beat" Thats like saying you dont like cs:s because it doesn't give you motivation to advance

anyway the l4d2 demo picked the most boring/shortest 2 levels in the game and also the most boring game mode (campaign) the rest of the parish is much better and so are the other campaigns, and vs and scavenge are where its at game mode wise :) I love l4d2.

When I say "advance" I mean kill zombies, reach safe house, that is the objective of the game itself, I fail to see the relation this has with the game being cooperative, competitive or just single player.

Though not released this year and I used to own is Halo 3.... I can't get into it compared to Halo 1. Played a bit and got bored of it fast so returned it and got Tekken 6 instead. Close is MW2 only for the campaign (haven't tried multiplayer) since the campaign in MW1 imo is heaps better and loads of fun than MW2.

I'm going to love revisiting this thread when MW3 sells 7 million on launch :p

Sales don't equal quality. For instanceb billboard just named their pick for best artist of the year: Nickelback. Nuff Said.

FFS, what is it with everyone hating Nickelback?! They're an excellent band!

I wonder the same thing. I've never played Dirt 2, but I'm loving Forza 3. It is NOT a simulator, BUT it is what NFS: Shift should have been; something in between. The controls are great in Forza 3. The only thing that really bugs me about the game is the load times.

For me, it is not about being a simulator like the old rally games, which I didn't like to play much although I recon that they did a great job with the driving. Forza 3 and NFS Shift assist are horrible and when you turn all of them off, the driving just gets much uglier. DiRT 2 is suffering from the same thing, but it is a little better overall.

I forgot to mention that RE5 for PC is a really ugly game.

I played it at a friend's house after being told by another friend that the xbox 360 version was awesome.

I guess I won't be giving much weight to that friend's opinion on games anymore

Check the overall top artists on my Last.fm profile.

Indeed, there is nothing wrong with Nickelback. They are just flavour of the month when it comes to bashing something on the internet for no reason.

People have been bashing Nickelback long before now.

People bashing MW2 are just trying to be controversial, surely?

Oh and the beta of MAG makes me think this time next year the future version of this thread will be full of MAG votes too.

My biggest disappointment was Need for Speed: Shift. I was expecting that I would be able to play with my Logitech Rumblepad 2 but it proved impossible. The only way one can enjoy this game is with a steering wheel. My other disappointment is FIFA 2010 but that franchise has always been proven to be a disappointment since '06 for the PC.

Calling it overrated or disappointing isn't the same as bashing it. I love it, personally, but I'd agree that it is overrated/slightly disappointing.

I'll contribute to the thread by saying Borderlands wasn't as groundbreaking as I hoped it would be.

I noticed MW2 and SFIV getting a number of votes. I'm not here to hijack the thread with arguments, but I legitimately did not know these games were regarded as disappointing. What were the major complaints? I grant that MW2's single player was painfully, painfully short, but I'm having a great time with the multiplayer (I'm a pretty casual FPS gamer, so if the complaints relate to competitive play, I can see how I would've missed them).

I also thought SFIV was a blast and at least as balanced as the other SF games (I play fighting games pretty seriously). As usual, Sagat is god-tier, but the matchups are not nearly as uneven as in a lot of other fighting games.

I'm going to guess: that they didn't live up to the hype, that they didn't do anything groundbreaking, that they didn't really advance their respective genres in any way -- stuff like that.

Halo ODST. Man did that game suck, it was just the same ol' halo with stupid useless gameplay changes. Me aand a buddy played it for about 2 hours before turning it off and never going back.

i can't beleive people actually paid for that game. The fact they charged so much for it is a crime, should have been DLC at most.
