+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 11, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 11, 2009 NPD figures for November revealed that Tony Hawk: RIDE crashed and burned at retail for the month, moving only 114K units across all platforms since its release on the 17th. While reviews were not very kind to the game, it's a no brainer that the $120 price tag probably was a contributing factor that kept folks from picking it up ? despite the innovative skateboard peripheral. December may be a bit kinder to the title, what with consumers purchasing gifts and what not, so hopefully things will get better for the skating game -otherwise the sequel may get shelved. Otherwise it will only be remembered as Tony Hawk: Epic Fail. More through IndustryGamers. MightyJordan
Tony Hawk: RIDE pretty much marks the death knell of one of my favourite series. Here's my summary of all the Tony Hawks games (the main ones): Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - "Hey, this is alright." Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - "Wow, this is great!" Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 - "Holy crap, it's amazing!" Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 - "Very very good!" Tony Hawk's Underground - "Hmm, it's still good." Tony Hawk's Underground 2 - "Umm, isn't this the same as the first one?" Tony Hawk's American Wasteland - "What's happened to the series?" Tony Hawk's Project 8 - "It's climbing back up the mountain." Tony Hawk's Proving Ground - "*sigh* They're not even trying now." Tony Hawk: RIDE - "R.I.P." MightyJordan
I think it's time to take the legend of the Tony Hawk games out back and put it down. Agreed. Ever since EA released Skate, the Tony Hawk series has been playing catch-up, and now with RIDE, Activision simply got desperate.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 12, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 12, 2009 Agreed. Ever since EA released Skate, the Tony Hawk series has been playing catch-up, and now with RIDE, Activision simply got desperate. Skate is realistic, TH always had that niche of going for fun over realism, but they started taking the **** out of that with the later games completely shredding any strands of realism the earlier ones had. The new game is just like WTF? Only Activision think everything needs a peripheral. I'm pretty sure they'd bundle a peripheral with MW2 if they could, but they done the next best thing, a pair of ******** NV goggles.
MightyJordan
:o What was wrong with American Wasteland? There was no real presence. It just felt like a typical skater. It's only gimmick was no loading screens.

Activision though they could bundle a plastic gimmick with everything and it'd sell. It was their motto last year. Nice to see it back fire. :) But I'm sure the rofl-lol-omg-wtf sales of MW2 have happily balanced out any loss incurred. :(

And on top of MW2, DJ Hero has enjoyed a fair amount of sales as well, seeing as it was about as well-received as Tony Hawk: Ride. Only difference is that DJ Hero actually works, IMO. chicken-royal
THPS4 was the best imo. I liked not having to attempt the goals in a time limit, but having them there in the same game mode. I rarely used Free Skate, just went on Career and if I fancied trying a "mission" I could. Great level designs too imo. :)
DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 13, 2009 Here's the real listTony Hawk's Pro Skater - "Has potential, keep working on it Neversoft" Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - "Amazing!" Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 - "Doesn't have the same initial impact but good!" Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 - "Getting kind of bored of this!" Tony Hawk's Underground - "Hmm, it's still good." Tony Hawk's Underground 2 - "Umm, isn't this the same as the first one?" Tony Hawk's American Wasteland - "What's happened to the series?" Tony Hawk's Project 8 - "Fantastic reboot, brilliant job" Tony Hawk's Proving Ground - "*sigh* They're not even trying now." Tony Hawk: RIDE - "R.I.P." Those striked out should never be spoke of. End of story.
