+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted December 11, 2009 Subscriber¹ Share Posted December 11, 2009 Valve have promised many things over the years and never delivered, HL Ep3 and Sin Ep2 to name just two, they seem to want to concentrate on the cash cow L4D now a days, releasing them as full games, rather than add on packs or patches. But thats their business I suppose, but they do seem to be forgetting their roots somewhat.

Pc_Madness
If anything, they should update Counter-Strike: Source by porting it to the "Orange Box" engine. Then again that would prevent anyone with a DX7 video card from playing the game. Considering how many people play Counter-Strike: Source, that would annoy a fair number of people. They tried porting DoD: S to the Orange Box, and all they've had is troubles since. Every TF2 update causes their game to break and it introduced a whole heap of new issues. Its not worth Valve's time porting the game just so some nerd can jerk off to him getting 800fps compared with the 700 he was getting before. As for their 'cash cow', L4D2 is the last, episode 3 should be next, hopefully coming out middle of the year I spose. :s
Hell-In-A-Handbasket
i remember Valve said the Episodic structure of the games was going to be on a 6 month ( or close ) schedule or something like that. thats far blown out of the water, so why holding breath on something else they said. dont get me wrong, i like HL and the Ep's. but i could really care less if and when the games/updates come out anymore. And I've been playing it for awhile, haven't had any issues yet (even after many TF2 updates).

They didn't develop those games, only offered them on Steam.

LOC Veteran Posted December 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 13, 2009 Did they not take over the development/distribution of Sin? Hence Ep1 being released on the source engine? No, Ritual was always the developer though Ritual did choose to distribute Sin episodes over Steam that didn't give control of the franchise to Valve. In fact, Ritual was pretty much bought out by MumboJumbo games if I remember correctly, and they put Sin episodes on "haitus" (aka, cancelled lol) because they wanted them to create basically casual games for them. EA also distributed Sin episode 1 at retail if I'm not mistaken, but considering Vavle's working relationship with EA for retail stuff that's not surpising either. Ayepecks
SiN Episodes is as good as gone, because MumboJumbo only wants casual games. The Ritual staff isn't the same anymore, either. Back on topic, though... I'm really interested to see what's going on with Episode 3. I'm honestly starting to wonder if they're just making an entirely new game (Half-Life 3), or if they're making a massive package like The Orange Box was. It has to be something like that. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted December 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2009 One thing Valve has said a few times, is that they're no longer going to talk about the game until it's almost finished. So compared to EP1 and EP2 it seems like they're not doing anything, but it also avoids what happened with Aftermath (We'd play as Alyx!)
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted December 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2009 Well, it's been more than 2 years since Half-Life 2: Episode Two was released. About ~1.5 years before that, Half-Life 2: Episode One was released.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted December 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2009 As long as it doesn't take as long as Half-Life 2, I'll be happy.
Smigit
As long as it doesn't take as long as Half-Life 2, I'll be happy. Depends whats in the game. EP1 took quite a while if I recall to arrive, around as long as sone full games as did EP2. While they were a lot quicker than HL2 they were also a lot less fulfilling gameplay wise and did feel like episodes which is a bit of a drag when you have to wait years to find out what happens next. I'd say EP3 will be the length of a full game, if it isn't just released as a full release off the bat. there really is no reason for it to have taken this long otherwise and I'm sure they wouldn't deliberatly hold it back this long just so they could bundle and ship another orange box like release. LOC Veteran Posted December 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2009 Maybe EP3 will just morph into Half-Life 3 at this point.
Spookie
Maybe EP3 will just morph into Half-Life 3 at this point. The idea was that Ep1-3 would be HL3 ending the Gordan Freeman story arch.

Yeah they always do a horrible job of saying things that dont end up in the game lol. its almost like they TRY and talk about stuff that gets removed.
