I am Redbeard
Hey guys, I've got about $400 to spend on myself this year for christmas and I was considering a couple things right now; 1. A second monitor. ($150-$180) - I have two currently, a Samsung Syncmaster 2253bw "22 and a "19 Dell. I want to replace the 19 inch with another Syncmaster2253bw, simply put because it would, imo, look funny (as it does right now), to have two different monitors. 2. An Xbox360. ($199) - I suppose it would just be nice to have. I have a few friends who have them and I'd probably pick up CoD: MW2, with xboxlive. I guess I'm just looking for other, similarly priced, technological/gaming oriented gift ideas for myself. :]
Sethos
360 for sure, provides so much more fun that a little monitor upgrade :p

Guest
Go for the xbox 360, as Sethos said: A xbox is a lot more fun than another monitor!
Smigit
xbox. If You were going to go the monitor path I'd get a 24" and just replace the 22" down the road. But yeah, XBox seems the better choice.
.KICK
Definitely get the 360! I always find buying myself a monitor isn't that exciting!
rbadl
I think the idea was that he was going to get the monitor and the 360, not a matter of which?

Sethos
Yup, everyone above needs some glasses  Yeah or the OP needs to outline his thread a bit better - It's natural to skip text in a thread, when you believe you caught the jist of it, like with "Need help choosing" in the title and the thread plus two options presented to us. Yusuf M. Veteran Posted December 12, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 12, 2009 Yup, everyone above needs some glasses  Hey, I merely gave him a thumbs up on his decision to buy an Xbox 360. I even suggested a 12-month Live subscription. And it's not like he'll have much left after the monitor + Xbox 360 purchase ($350-$380). cabron
I will go for a PS3, don't waste your money in a Xbox 360. PS3 online is free unlike the Xbox 360 online experience.
Smigit
Oh don't stress, you were first to post, those that blindly followed you have more to excuse for! *whistles innocently* I will go for a PS3, don't waste your money in a Xbox 360. PS3 online is free unlike the Xbox 360 online experience. I don't consider that a reason not to get a 360. Far bigger factors are the game library and whether your friends own a 360 or not. No point having a PS3 if the people you want to play with have an XBox or you wanted to play halo and gears.
I am Redbeard
Ah, sorry you guys, your right, I didn't really specify. More or less what I meant was I have $400 to spend, so far what I've thought about getting are those two things, the monitor and the 360. This was more or less an open ended thread in which you guys suggested different things. Thank you for the replies. :]
Smigit
Well as before I'd go 24" if you are getting a monitor. As it is I'd deck the XBox out first with whatever you need and see what you have left over from that. you already mentioned getting XBox live and MW2 which will certainly dig into that $400 and any other titles you may want also will. I think with $400 I'd concentrate on one and if you have money left over put it away for the other in the future or towards something else. I am Redbeard
Yeah.. I was more or less trying to avoid spending all my money on one thing, you know? If I got two relatively similar priced things that I could use equally, I'd be happy. I'm unsure about getting either currently. I have more than enough monitor space.. and I play WoW more than casually, meaning I don't really want to pay for another subscription (Xbox live). Only a couple weeks to decide, bleh. chevyordeath
*cough* get a PS3 *cough* Lol, seriously though. I have nothing against the 360. But the PS3 just seems like the better buy. Free online play, it has a blu-ray drive, so that is pretty cool. Movies on Blu-Ray on a really nice HDTV and excellent surround sound, just awesome! And they are very well built, the cell processor is simply amazing! I've got a 1st gen PS3, I've had it since November 2006, it came with a 20GB HDD (I've upgraded the drive since then.) My roommates and I run the crap out of it, it just keeps on keepin' on. I think you'd be happy with a 360 too, even more so since you've got friends with them. I'd still go with the PS3 though ;).
