DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 13, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 13, 2009 Tell her it uses far less power and expenditure will be made up over 4 years of electricity savings  To be fair the savings are pretty impressive, uses more than 2x for gaming :| Wow. That really is pretty damn crazy. Damn. Thanks for the ammo. (Y)
Joel
the actual buttons look better than the touch sensitive (my biggest gripe when I first seen Slim). I don't remember if it was you or another I said that to, but yes, it looks much better in person than people thought it would. I had my brother's fat one for a while and hated the touch buttons myself, anyway.
KoL Veteran Posted December 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2009 Finally!I can confirm my locked save game files copied over as well. It just deletes them off the original PS3. I thought it deleted everything off the original PS3 in fact, but it doesn't, just locked save files if you have them. Also the newer DS3s seem to be a slightly different material, less glossy/slidey, more rough. Guess that'll help those with sweaty palms  So it copies the save files to the other Playstation, it doesn't move it? You can have the save files in both PS3? KoL Veteran Posted December 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2009 Oh I misread. Got confused with this sentence "I thought it deleted everything off the original PS3 in fact, but it doesn't". I want to have all saves in both PS3s :(
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 14, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 14, 2009 I don't remember if it was you or another I said that to, but yes, it looks much better in person than people thought it would. I had my brother's fat one for a while and hated the touch buttons myself, anyway. I was pretty vocal about it, mainly because I was one of the "oh cool touch sensitive buttons!!!" guys. But the buttons are better on the Slim, and the lights as I've said already are placed better. There was actually one guy on NeoGAF that for whatever medical reason had to wear gloves over his hands, and he always complained about the touch buttons  As funny as that is, I guess it's quite true, everyone can push a mechanical button, a very small % might have difficulty with touch. Of course you can turn on from your DS3 and eject from it, but point still stands. After you've had a fatty for over a year, then replace it with a Slim, it's shocking how large the original PS3 was. I mean the PS3 Slim still has nothing on the PS2 Slim, but it has such a better footprint than the fat. The height of it's the biggest change, it's just so low down now. Coldgunner
Even though I won a 120gb slim, I opted to sell that and keep my 60gb (320gb) unit as the feature set was the killer decision maker.
FiB3R
I'm up for swapping my 60GB (250GB) for a slim. PM me if anybody is interested.
rajputwarrior
congrats on the purchase, the slim is a lot nicer in person then in pictures. I couldn't imagine owning a phat after a slim. The phats may be prettier but they are so much bigger which makes it not worth it. The best part about them is they are stupid quiet, you can't even hear them while you are gaming. It's awesome. My 360 sounds like a jet engine everytime its playing something.

DrunknMunky Veteran Posted December 17, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 17, 2009 Dude why would anyone swap their slim for your fat? :p Because they are better :p And because it's a badge of honour, which says something along the lines of "I was there in the beginning, I had no games, none of you whipper snappers know what it was like, with your fancy schmancy GoW3's and GT5's!!" Or something :p
Michael1406
After seeing that energy usage comparison, I'm quite tempted. However, the embedded pic says "1st Gen". Does that mean that they somehow reduced power consumption by the time that they got around to making the 40 Gig models?

Yeah the 40/80GB use less power, I'll try find out how much less.
Michael1406
Thanks. I've found this so far: Source: http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_...0090907/175003/ Despite the fact that I quite like the non-glossy addition to the family tree, it wouldn't really be worth it for me to get myself a slim going by that chart.
