Xbox 360 vs PS3 in 2010....

Recommended Posts

I'm from a PC gamer background, I don't enjoy watered down RTS drivel.

But that's me, don't be upset if you think differently HawkMan, who cares what I think.

I consider Dawn of War and Supreme Commander(as well as it's predecessor TA) the greatest RTS games around. But Halo Wars is a close second, and even for those who play complicated PC RTS games, it's an excellent RTS game with great console dapated controls and as tactical(thoguh not strategic) as SC.

Even so if you can't stand it because it's a console RTS, I don't see how you can call it a ****ty game, the story was great, the graphics where great, and it finally proved that console RTS games can be done, and done well with controls even superceding that of PC. sure we won't see supreme commander on console with a gamepad, but for small tactical RTS games in the HW/DoW scale, it easily matches it's PC counterparts.

I mean I can't very well call LBP a ****ty game because I don't like it and think it's just a generic platformer with a level builder.

Anyway back on topic, I don't see why xbox/PC "exclusives shouldn't be in the list, most console gamers I've met don't game much on PC anymore unless they are exclusive games. personally I don't have much interest in buying PC games anymore. so if a game is 360/pc exclusive, I'll get the 360 version, it's usually the more polished one anyway.

And generally I value quality over the games over their exclusivity anyway. So far there's few games on the PS3 I'm interested in, and those that there are have 360 counterparts. and I've yet to see any multiplatform games that are actually better on the PS3, but I can't say the same for vica versa.

So in total, I doubt 2010 will be much different from 2008 and 2009.

There's only a very few exclusives that actually sell consoles anyway, and for next year, the PS3 only has one, GT5, but most of the GT5 people already have their PS3, and Forza 3 has(wether they admit it or not) taken a lot of the shine and polish from the GT5 launch.

Meanwhile the 360 has both ME2 and Halo Reach wich are console pushers, though ME2 not as much as ME was admittedly.

In fact I think 2010 will be more about the extras the consoles offer, like on demand HD video, stuff like Sky and other IP tv solutions. Granted sky needs to get a better deal with MS so people can use their 360 as their one and only SKy box, instead of just a room 2 solution for extra pay.

Then of course their Natal and.... the sony thing with no name. Kind of a mistake from sony this, Everyone knows Natal, Sony's well either you need to say "the sony motion control thing" or you say "the sony dildo" It's not helping their marketing much that they don't have an easily recognizable hype name ready when they introduced it.

I said if 5 people gave it GOTY on Neowin did I not?

2 people have so far :p

Go attract some 1 post wonders by saying if they sign up and say "Demons Souls GOTY" you'll give them gameshare access. I'm sure that old Gameshare topic is still high up on Google search results. Munky loves '1 post gameshare wonders'. I tell them to PM him for user/pass.

I'll hold you to that Gavy-boy ...

I'm biased, I can't stand playing console RTS games, just ignore what I said. I'm sure those who enjoy console RTS games may have found it enjoyable, but I didn't play much of it without giving up. Just felt like select all -> attack to me, far too easy, but as I said I'm biased to PC RTS.

Also you can call LBP whatever you want, lots of people think it's a ****ty game :p

What I really meant to say is don't sidetrack the Halo name with some side game before Reach, people are coming off of an RTS and an expansion pack, what they want next is a true Halo sequel and if given that it'll sell gangbusters.

Incidentally, it seems as if my expectations of LBP is coming to life, people are forgetting about it and it no longer has every PS3 player firing it up weekly. Which is bad for the PS3 as the only console with no recognizable mascot.

Sockpuppet guy would have been a good mascot for it, but it would have needed a game that hekd a gamers attention for longer than an updated side platformer.

Sackboy is still a mascot HawkMan

You really need to buy yourself a PS3 instead of just talking about it all the time :p

one forgotten game does not make a mascot, not for anything but that game anyway :p

I mean more people would connect the metal gear dude with the PS, and he's not even console exclusive or Sony owned.

Anyway first I'll need a good reason to own one, I don't have one, I don't care for exclusive games since if it's exclusive there's always a genre equivalent on the 360, and if I ever do start buying blu-rays I'd get a player for my mediacenter(makes more sense). I just don't see a reason to spend a significant chunk of money on it.

Maybe if you could convince Sony to Ressurect the old D.I.D or Jane's and create some decent modern jet fighter SIM game in the style of Total Air War. Then I'd be all over the thing, I'd even buy a full new Thrustmaster HOTAS stick set for it provided they made it compatible. :p

LBP is hardly forgotten though HawkMan...

I'm only suggesting you try one as you always have something to say about the games on it but you have no hands on experience with them :p

Not owning one doesn't mean you can't "experience" it :p

God of War 3 has achieved the world's most realistic graphics by utilizing only one texture, blood.

Since my 360 broke recently, my next console priority may be PS3 ONLY for Blu-Ray and God of War 3(2 remake also).

When it comes down to it though, when I'm at the store I will think of XBOX Live, Left 4 Dead/2, and Halo then I will completely forget about the above mentions...

After reading the story in GI this month on Mass Effect 2, I think it will blow the rest of the years game out of the water. McNamara(editor in chief) also hints at some major games that may already be announced but not expected for 2010. These will be cover stories and of course he couldn't name drop them. Some of these could add big time to a console depending on if its another game form a series (GoW3) or a new IP that's exclusive(infamous).

Have you seen the IGN stories on the revamped ME2 classes? It's seeming like every class is a powerful and viable option. They have really listened to the community this time around, every problem i had with the first has been mentioned in a interview/article.

When i think Ps3 i see their mascot as really being Nathan Drake now, it's the best game (imo) that has come out on the console so far and i feel he could easily be the ps3 mascot.

After seeing who is on the cast, that is enough to make me believe.

I think that was one the biggest things they needed to modify. I have never had a problem with my class through ME, but a friend tried to be a sniper and it just failed horribly because he always ended up in inescapable CQ situations.
