VGA 2009

When do I ever jump on you guys for your tastes? We talk about games which we can instantly tell if we'll like or not having been gamers for the best part of our lives.

I don't like UC1 and I knew before I bought it I wouldn't. I decided to ignore that gut feeling though and go with people's recommendations on NW and I still ended up hating it.

Just like Halo 3 which won GOTY god knows how many times in 2007, I aint ramming it down people's throats. You don't like it? Fair enough, didn't stop my enjoyment of the game or being proud of what Bungie made.

Dear oh dear.

we aren't jumping on you for tastes, we are jumping on you because you are judging something before you tried it. Yo audio whats your PSN id?

Right but my point is I know what I like and I even provided the example of UC1. A game I slate even today, but I did the same back in 2007 as well. I finally gave in to people like Corris and AB saying give it a try blah blah blah. What happened? I still hated it.

And you guys are never gonna convince me it's not a complete rip off of GoW2's multiplayer. The moment I saw it you could see the immediate (even if small) ideas they copied. Even GameTrailer's review picks up on it if you go back and watch it. The game is such a mix match of other's thrown together it's a wonder how it didn't get compared to Dead Space more imo.

ANYWAY, my pot shots are not to be taken seriously. I detest the game, but that doesn't mean my word is final and it's **** for everyone else. Leave it at that eh ;)

Here's the Spec Ops: The Line trailer; http://www.gametrailers.com/video/spec-ops-spike-tv/59821

Looks great (Y)

I'm very excited for it given that trailer, but something about the gunplay looks a bit off. Hopefully they can fix it, but given the development studio, I'm kind of weary.

Medal of Honor looked awesome in my book. Halo Reach looked like what Halo 3 should have been, IMO. Glad Bungie got a chance to expand their gameplay ideas with ODST, too.

Wow! :D MoH, Spec Ops, Batman 2, and Halo Reach looked amazing! :D I can't wait for these games to be released, might be first day buy for me if I have cash. :D

Crackdown 2 was just wtf. It looked like a mix of Crackdown 1, Infamous, and Prototype all into one. :/

I agree with the GotY award and the studio of the year award! Good job Uncharted 2 and Rocksteady! :D

It's nothing to do with tastes (mine/yours/anyone elses) it's watching you be so uptight about your beliefs on something you haven't played :p

From the minute people started talking about UC2 all you've done is slate it or say it's just "x" or "y". You seem to have such an interest in passing word on a game you apparently have no interest in at all.

As a whole game package Uncharted 2 is nothing like Gears of War 2, you should go ahead and ask Larry that, I'll get shot down for "PS BIAZ!!112" and all that jazz, but he's probably the most neutral guy around here and I bet he doesn't respond to this saying his experience with UC2 reminded him of GoW2.

And the GoTY award is irrelevant, it's up to everyone to decide if they agree or not, I'm talking about your general remarks to UC2. If there's one thing that does get under my skin it's someone who hasn't played a game telling other people what it's like, especially if they're off-key with their assumption.

There was only one time it really reminded me of Gears 2, and Uncharted 2 does trains so much better.

Sure, it has a cover system, just like Gears does, but after that, the comparisons more or less end.

I have honestly kept my mouth shut as I thought it was maybe going to get me in trouble, but the UC2 bashing really did upset me. I can see it not being someone's tastes, that is fine, but just to totally write it off when it has such high production values, well that then leads me to believe it is because it is only on the PS3 and nothing else. I honestly cannot see how someone who is a fan of games at the very least cannot recognize the game was done extremely well.

Not only did I want to say that, but the whole talking smack or whatever it may be if a game wins GOTY or whatever, well just not needed in my opinion. Honestly if X amount of people are agreeing, then they game deserved to be there probably. So I might personally say damn, I wanted X game to win, but just because my game did not win I would not bad mouth the other just to do it. Just my .02 cents.

What have they developed before? I've honestly never heard of Yager Development unless you were referring to take-two which is just the publisher.

I loved MOH: Frontline and love that they have rebooted the series and halo: reach is well a halo game from bungie so you know it will be quality. I don't agree with a lot of the award recipients but I know nothing about UC2 but from what I can see it looks quality not my style of game but it looks like it's a quality title.

If that was directed to my earlier comments, I did clear up I am writing it off for myself, not everyone else. Production values don't mean much to me if I simply don't like the game. You weren't/aren't a big fan of Fable and other RPG's and you dismissed Fable 2 last year. That had a high production value as does the upcoming FF13, but because they're not your type of games, it's highly unlikely you'll play it much never mind give it your own personal GOTY. Further more I was quoting your famous words which have stuck with me since you posted them on NW "I don't need to try something to know I won't like it". Tis very true and I agree with it 100% :p

As for the comparisons, they go far beyond the roadie running for me, but I've been over them so many times before on NW, I cba covering it again lol.

Also it's much easier for Americans to try games compared to us over here in Europe as our choices are pretty limited (and crap) when it comes to renting games. I do actually plan to pick up UC2, just like I did UC1. But I'm not paying full price for it. I'm waiting till it reaches ?10 again(Y)) All this might be avoided though if there was a demo to play...

Overall I don't actually have a clear winner for GOTY myself, it's been a **** year tbh. Unlike the past 3 years where I've already decided long before now, I'm trying to pick between games which are really really good instead of being excellent, clear winners.

That's not what people get frustrated at, in fact they way you put it above is a much better answer(Y))

It's when you take snide potshots and say the game is just "x" or "y" that aggravates people because they know you haven't played it, and know you don't know what it's like as a whole package. A game doesn't win GoTY based upon 1 thing, so for example you can't really say the shooting mechanics in UC1 are going to be quite similar to UC2, I didn't like them, so how can UC2 win GoTY? It's the whole package that grabs the win, and like it or not it's one of the most polished games that's been released in the last few years all round, from graphics, to audio, to gameplay, to story. Plus the shooting mechanics were tweaked up quite a bit, much more enjoyable shooting in UC2 and every headshot = 1 hit kill, besides the armoured guys of course. Plus they added multiplayer and co-op alongside SP without compromising any quality (Hi R2).

The amount of change in scenery from 1 to 2 is quite a jump as well, probably spend less time in Jungles than in them:pp

My aim was to take pot shots and rile people up, I was bored :p You knew that the other night when you told someone else to ignore me lol. I have to put up with your pot shots and the "mentality" of FPS gamers, only fair I have a few of my own ;)

But seeing as the convo went on for much longer than planned, may as well clear up how I really feel about it.

My complaint about UC1 (and probably UC2) has never been the gun play btw, think that's Setho's issue with it. My gripe is the pathetic platforming and puzzles. If you recall back to last year we went over this and the comparisons to Tomb Raider :p

Least you said probably this time, as you don't know ;) Puzzling hasn't changed much in 2, the puzzles are on a much grander scale (climbing that huge hanging tower thing was awesome), but they're still fairly easy. The platforming is leaps and bounds better, that's helped by much better environment variety, there's only so many ways you can climb around in a Jungle, but add 4-5-6 different environments and bam. The train level is probably one of the most impressive, yeah you're not scaling 500ft Cliffs, but due to the way it moves/environment and what not it's just great.

lol you can't compare heckling UC2 to my mentality of FPS gamers, the only way those comments from me would affect you is if you DO act like the people I'm calling out ;)

There's no way someone who proclaims to love Tomb Raider so much could hate Uncharted as much as you seem to, so I say STFU and rent UC2 and play through it Munky :p

Gavin, my own little firefox! Gunplay was my thing and don't defend it, it's a terrible carbon copy of UC1 and back then it was still the biggest pile of fail to have ever been bestowed on this planet and no, that is not my only issue but I'd rather focus on the thorn in the eye than the ants in the pants.

( Said with love  )

Nah I hear you, and I gotta say that is a pretty damn good comment I made.:pp I definitely still do feel that way for sure, I just know certain games I will not like, so totally fine with the fact it is a game you do not really like. Just saying I think that could have been conveyed in a better fashion was all.

For the sake of the example since it was mentioned, I know Fable 2 is not my type of game (which FTR I did eventually try playing it, just not my type of game LOL). All I was trying to convey is even if Fable 2 won some award and I did not think it should have strictly based on the fact I just do not like those types of games, I personally would just say "Damn, I wish X game won instead." I would not say "LOL" or " LOL Fable 2 sucks and never should have won." Maybe if I played Fable 2 and thought it sucked then I would say something along those lines, but if it is a game I know I just do not like because I do not like it and I never played it because of that, I personally just tend not to comment on it as I realize other people do play it and do like it. You know what I mean? That is all I was trying to convey. And honestly part of me could really care less, but the other part of me does know I have always tried my best to lead by example here to make the GH a better place, so I guess that part of me is still trying to do that to some extent, so that is all it really boils down to.

Like this Dragons Age game or even Demon Souls, the truth of the matter is they are both just not my type of game, yet I have read a whole lot of comments saying how good they are to some people. So instead of taking the time to say I dislike them, I just choose to say nothing as the reason I dislike them is simply just a matter of opinion until I actually play them, which I very well probably never will do.

That's all really. At the end of the day I could really care who likes what and who does not like what, I just do feel for a positive overall community, some comments can be withheld for the sake of the better good of the community. You already said you were having a bad day though, that was actually very clear to me, so that is why I was just going to leave it alone and not even bother responding or pointing it out is all.

BOT, I checked out this Spec Ops The Line Website (which has the most annoying background loop ever on any website) just now. Story is set in a sand storm / war torn Dubai and it has some kind of dynamic sand storm engine which sounds like it could be pretty cool to me. However I get the feeling this game is either going to be terribly average or even worse, but has a small chance of really being kick ass if done properly.

I always hate it when one game gets two awards in the same awards show, let alone three. Batman: Arkham Asylum should have been in there for something... like Best Visual Style perhaps,

Well, there isn't an award for it, but I think that AA was really cool visually, especially for a game made on the all to easy to spot Unreal engine.
