Green Day: Rock Band

Recommended Posts

Looks like this is the next band-centric game in the Guitar Hero/Rock Band series.

Your thoughts?

Full version of the trailer is now available on GameTrailers (in 720 HD too). Can't embed it though. I tried uploading it to YouTube, but it instantly got taken down for TOS violation. F***ing WMG.

Might as well milk the cash cow. xD

Why not? Although Green Days guitar work isn't exactly inspiring. Guess it would be fun to play as the full band.

I play Bass (both IRL and in game) and it's incredible how hard their songs are to play IRL. I can't vouch for guitar, but Mike Dirnt does a lot of work on bass.

Uncharted 2

;D

What, the Game of the Year according to Spike?

Seriously though, Uncharted 2 is a fantastic game. I don't think it's the best game of the year, but I think it's in the top 1.

Hats off to you if you get that line.

And we're veering way off topic here, so back to Green Day: Rock Band!

I think we'll know right from the off that it's not going to be as visually stunning as The Beatles: Rock Band. At best, it's probably gonna be just typical stadium/arena environments with the flag of the country they're playing in draped all over the place.

Sound-wise, it's obviouslly gonna be for the die-hards only, unless they decide to take the Guitar Hero route, and just fill half the soundtrack with Green Day, then the other half with whatever they like.

Gameplay-wise, this one intrigues me. Green Day is a power trio, so I'm thinking they might actually do a Voxtar mode for once! :D

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that Harmonix already announced that all of the songs will be exportable to RB1/RB2.

He's just hating on it to try and wind up the fans, he's never played it so such hate is unfounded ;)

Old old old Greenday, still like, new Greenday and this announcement (because the game will be plastered with new songs)....

Nah, I reckon they'll bundle a fair amount of old songs to appease the diehards. The only old songs I like though are "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around", which will almost definitely be in the game.

Oh, at the .gif!

They'll still fire in a ton of new stuff, so when you have a party and the casuals come over they'll be like "PUT ON AMERICAN IDIOT!!!!111", and you'll revert to taking that guest outside and shooting them in your garden. What a terrible terrible slight to the human race that song is.

Plus releasing all these packaged game bundles is a huge floppy pile of fail, band orientated packs should be DLC, then on top of that you should be able to buy individual songs for EVERYTHING, I don't want crappy packs with 4 songs I don't like just to get 1.

Wait what am I even talking about, I don't play any of this plastic instrument nonsense any more anyway...

Well in terms of GH (from GHWT onwards)/RB DLC, you can buy pretty much every song individually (except for a few Beatles songs), but like me, you could end up regretting it later on, like I did with the Nine Inch Nails packs. I ended up buying all 6 songs seperately over the course of about 6 months. :p

Either way buying a license just to use a song in a game is fail, until I have the ability to download the track and actually use it as a music track on other devices I certainly won't be investing my hard earned money into GH/RB DLC.

Chances are Activision will find a way to make all your DLC defunct come the next consoles, or make you pay a charge to transfer it all

Epic fail +1

Greenday stopped mattering to me when the released American Idiot.

It is a funny choice.... I think the Beatles and maybe Metallica are the only two bands that have the music to pull off their title. Of course this is a matter of opinion and not fact :p

I think Aerosmith has the music as well, but the problem is that Activision didn't pull it off properly, but they learned from their mistakes and with GH Metallica, they nailed it. GH Van Halen isn't too bad, either.

You know I had forgot about Aerosmith! Yes, you are right in terms of music Aerosmith have the music. Greenday I feel just don't have the back catalogue to make a whole game about them. I might be wrong? However I can see this version kicking MTV and Harmonix in the teeth.

Gameplay-wise, very possibly. But in terms of sales, it's gonna do well, as Green Day have built up a massive mainstream fanbase with "American Idiot" and "21st Century Breakdown". They're still brilliant albums, but the annoying bit is that Johnny and Judy Herd-Follower also likes them.

To be honest I think what might be the bigger problem is that Beatles Rockband was pretty awesome really. It's difficult to do a lot to alter the gameplay mechanics, so they did something different. They had a story to tell, the dreamscapes were amazingly done and so on. Can't really imagine Greenday will be the same as that.

With that said, it will sell like hotcakes.

Last GH/RB game I got was GH3. Played World Tour a fair bit at a mates though. It's fun, but the tracklist has always been the reason I never bought it. With this I'll like everyone song on it, so I'd be very tempted to buy it. Hopefully they include a lot of their early stuff too (Kerplunk & 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours).
