veritas310
Anyone else that's running Snow Leopard noticing an increase in the beachball/pinwheel of death/etc? I have a MBP from last year with 4GB RAM, 2.53Ghz C2D, and it seems to be happening a lot more often lately. Mostly while using Safari. I boot to x64 as well, just an fyi. Just curious as to if this is just isolated to my system or others are experiencing similar activity. Thanks :).
suspiria
Can't say I'm having the same issue as you are. I've rarely, if ever, seen any beachball's on Snow Leopard...
veritas310
Do you use Safari often or more FireFox/Opera?
suspiria
Safari and Camino. I don't like Firefox or Opera on Mac OS X.
veritas310
Weird, now that I pay closer attention, it seems to be happening mostly within Safari...
.Neo
Can you tell us when it happens? Did you install some plugins that might cause problems?
veritas310
I don't use any plug-ins, it seems to happen randomly, sometimes when a page is loading, other times just out of the blue when clicking to another window/tab.
Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted December 14, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 14, 2009 My Macbook (early 2009 aluminum unibody) with Snow leopard gets the Beachball every time i open Firefox.
Binary
I don't use any plug-ins, it seems to happen randomly, sometimes when a page is loading, other times just out of the blue when clicking to another window/tab. No plug-ins at all? Flash causes Safari to SBBOD quite often.... And any other browser for that matter.
veritas310
Yea, Flash is installed, guess that could be it. Didn't happen all that often until recently though... Edited December 15, 2009 by veritas310
veritas310
It's happening in Mail under my RSS feeds as well, this is getting extremely annoying.
veritas310
Ok, an update! I opened up the Console and minimized while I worked this morning. Twice it happened where the beach-ball started going for about 15 seconds (as usual). I looked in the console and at exactly those two times, I have this: 12/16/09 11:35:14 AM com.apple.backupd-auto[1761] Not starting scheduled Time Machine backup - time machine destination not resolvable. I don't leave my external connected at all times, in fact I only really connect when it says backups haven't been completed in "x" number of days. This never seemed to be an issue (at least that I noticed). Is there anyway to change the schedule or disable auto-backups? I mean, I suppose I could turn it off until I wanted to backup but is there a more efficient solution? Thanks! :)
trimegistro
I have noticed this too and I think it's started to happen after I upgraded to the last version of flash player a few days ago. I only use Safari...
