Dead Space 2 Announced

Do us a favor and read the following sentence really slowly -- seriously, savor it. It's been hinted and teased at enough to give the world's remaining necromorphs a heart attack, but Dead Space 2 has finally been officially announced for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Now, you might be wondering why you had to take your time with that easily understandable sentence. Well ... we don't really have anything else to tell you. It's still Visceral, it's still Isaac Clark, it's still the necromorph invasion. We don't even have a release window. The best thing EA has to say is, "Survival isn't the only thing on Isaac's mind in Dead Space 2 – this time, he calls the shots," which makes it sound like our engineer protagonist dumped his abusive boyfriend and moved to the big city to work in an office pool with Dolly Parton and Morgan Fairchild.

... Actually, that sounds pretty good.

Can't wait.

BTW, not sure if this is official or not: http://pc.ign.com/articles/105/1054146p1.html

The combat remains largely the same. Strategic dismemberment will be back. This time, however, the team will be adding new weapons, such as a javelin gun, that will hopefully deter players from always relying on the plasma cutter found in the original.

The developers confirmed there will be online components to Dead Space 2, but would not elaborate at this time.

"From the start of this project, we've had a team of people working on this. It's a core feature to the game; we're taking it very serious, as we do with anything in the Dead Space franchise, said Papoutsis. "All I can say is that it's really fun, and you'll get to strategically dismember your friends."

I will honestly be surprised if this is a success a second time around. Saying that though, RE games were a hit one after another and the gameplay rarely changed until 4 came out.

Sweet momma. I loved Dead Space. Don't think it needs online though. I find it annoying that every dev seems to feel the need to toss MP into games that don't call for it.

While I agree, I think that a cooperative mode would have been in the mix in the least. Going through those corridors with a friend would be really great, especially watching each others backs and sharing the experience. If the Dead Space MP is similar to the MP in RE5, it might have some promise though. Survival while killing friends would be pretty awesome in Dead Space.

In a way i agree, some devs really push to put out MP when its not needed. As for dead space 2, MP would be sweet. Some co-op action. I cant tell you how many times i got jumped in this first one, and having someone to watch my back would be a blessing.

and don't mention the horrific RE 5.

I loved Dead Space, I played through it like 3 times in a row.

Can't wait for the second, I love the universe so far, the Anime wasn't great, but was a nice extra for fans.

Will need to look up getting extraction, but I might just read its wiki to save money, lol.

The game was cool good mix of action, dismemberment and story. As long as they keep the mechanics the same, the light play, interest AI, updated graphics and fights etc theres no reason this wouldnt be successful. Dont see the need for the online part though.

Looks like I'm not the only one who did that, lol. I think I used the Force Gun in a few sections (mostly for fighting off the small crawling enemies), but I used the Plasma Cutter for virtually everything else, including the bosses.

Anyways, I'm definitely curious, but they're going to have to improve the storytelling quite a bit the next time around. I liked Dead Space overall (enough to consider replaying it with New Game+), but give us some characters that we actually care about next time, eh?

Although I enjoyed the atmosphere and mechanics of the first game, I really thought it ended up being really repetitive. I really hope they improve the pacing of the second game. I'm curious how "new and improved bad ass" Isaac is compared to "what the heck am I doing here I'm going to **** my pants" Isaac.

I was excited until I read news of it being console-only. Thanks, EA. Thanks a bunch for leaving PC gamers in the dark.

If the original wasnt on the PC I wouldnt be annoyed at this, but you cant make a sequel and not put it on the original platforms like this. Ah well if EA wanna screw PC fans who enjoyed and purchased the original, then im happy to screw em back with my 360.

I don't care what platform its on, but unless I finish the first game I'm not buying the second.

(I mean seriously, the unkillable enemy that I will undoubtedly end up finding a way to kill anyway thing...again? Sigh.)

It's a tired gaming cliche. It serves only to frustrate me enough to not want to play the game.

I thought you were talking about them doing the same thing in the second.

But if were talking about the first, its not that bad, and I don't see anything wrong with said "clich?", its part of the story and shows you cant just cut something up a little to kill it, though I would have preferred a less obvious end for the creature.

And its not exactly in the game that much either, lol.

/sigh

Stupid developers and management. Most players didn't rely on the Plasma Cutter because it was better than any other weapon (IMO the fully upgraded Contact Beam was the best). Players relied on the Plasma Cutter because it had to most ammo.

This is a small but very important oversight. And IMO it means that they're not going to fix the root cause of the problem. They're just going to add yet another weapon to the game that falls prey to same limitations as the ones already in the game. Yeah they're all cool to use, but you won't use them often if you can't use them often.

Really can't wait for Dead Space 2. The first one I'm still playing to this day it's just one of them that really caught my eye and truly scared me unlike any other game. I heard it may not be on the shelves till early 2011 now though? :(
