Splinter Cell Conviction Collector?s Edition has Sam statue, multiplay reveal on December 16

By Patrick Garratt

The Splinter Cell Conviction Collector?s Edition is to feature a Sam Fisher statue when the game releases on February 26, if you can believe that.

You probably can. This is what else it?s got:

* An exclusive Sam Fisher statue

* The game in a SteelBook case

* Infiltration Mode: Eliminate all hostiles in the mission area without being detected

* A playable skin: Shadow Armor

* Early access to 3 weapons: SC300, SR2 and MP5

* The official soundtrack

In addition, this was stuck at the bottom of the press release:

?The Splinter Cell Conviction team invites everyone to connect to the Xbox LIVE on the 16th of December at 5pm UK time for the worldwide premiere of the multiplayer modes.?

So do that.

Not an iconic enough character in that state for a statue, people will be like who's the old man with a gun? Looks like a limited run of "Bearded Action Man" :p

Only statue that would make sense IMO

This will be the very first Collector's Edition of a game including a statue that I'll buy - I want that Sam statue! I don't even care if the game flops.

And I will be on Xbox Live tomorrow at 6pm GMT +1 with my coffee, waiting anxiously.

EDIT: Gavin, the only ones who won't "get" the statue are the newbies - The rest of us will build a shrine for it. >.>

Not iconic enough? He's been around for almost a decade in the gaming scene. Bioshock launched the new IP with a CE and statue. My mum always refers to him as the "diver", that's an unknown character for you :p Saying that I doubt anyone outside of the gaming scene would know who it was, or who Ryu and Ken statues are or whoever.

Oh and at least Sam doesn't need a zimmer frame :p

And most recognised by the scope on his head.

Which is not in the statue.

Yep and not for nothing it looks just like the guy from Shadow Complex as well. I think AB makes a good point actually, just looks like random dude to most. Throw the scope on, it is Sam Fisher. Oh well I don't care, I don't get this myself.

EDIT - Yeah, I did not see the big ass letters on the bottom that say Splinter Cell, right next to the Scoped Goggles by his feet.

I knew the MGS dig was incoming somewhere because I said old man :p

Snake still looks like Snake though (bandanna/suit), Ubisoft have being going through swings and roundabouts with all these new identities for Sam Fisher. It's just a bland statue to me, yeah as Larry said his goggles are at his feet, but it just looks like a generic stunt double for someone in an episode of 24 :p

I think when you do figurines that are based upon human characters, so are mundane by default, they have to be accessorized or recognized for something they wield/wear/use to look more recognizable than someone having to read splinter cell off the base.

Just my 2cents, as usual, collectors editions avoided like the plague

I'll bet if this was a PS3 exclusive someone in this thread would argue it's the most sensible potrayal of Sam Fisher yet :p

As for this "iconic" business ... Why? The statue is meant for the person buying it, so why does he have to be dressed up in whatever he's most recognized for - I know who he is, why does he have to look like a character he isn't any more? It's Sam Fisher, the most badass main character in a game ever, he doesn't need to be dressed up in an S/M suit just for me to appreciate the statue.

It's not like your going to be sitting some cold winters evening saying to yourself "Wait, who is that guy again? Oh yeah, Sam Fisher - Almost forget! phew."

And those aren't even his goggles! lol

I want Splinter Cell, not some "24" fighting anti terrorist operative.

If someone showed me the statue and I hadn't read the news or there wasn't a base included, I'd still know it was Sam Fisher. Had the statue included the iconic green goggles on Sam, I'm willing to bet that the same amount of people wouldn't recognise him still. At most a small percentage of difference.

I guess I'm just more hardcore than most of you here :p ;)

At least ubisoft has the sense or the ability to change the character around as the game changes, the new look fits the plot of the game, as did his look before in DA. I suppose this will sound bad but hell, others started down this road already. Snake looking the same in every damn metal gear game doesn't show much creativity from a character design standpoint. But that's fine as well, if you wanna keep them the same and just add some more hair or w/e.

A video reveal or something playable? something fun? what is it?

Yeah cause changing his suit into civilian clothing symbolizes creativity lol

Better than keeping him in his camo clothing for every game. :)

I'd love to see some of your character designs since you make it sound so easy.

^ I hope you're not serious lol.

Boxes/crates/containers are like the oldest prop in gaming history. Hiding inside one didn't take them months of brain power. Leave a 1yr old kid with a box and they'll do the same thing within seconds (maybe minutes for the wusses/slow ones) :p

How many more do you want, this is MGS4 alone :p

Anywho, will we have anything playable tomorrow? Or will they just release a video of whats to come?

And back to the original complaint over the Sam statue, none of those would be recognisable to a non-gamer. It's not "iconic"

Wait for it...................

OH SNAP!

;)

I could go through all the SC games and post pics of his costumes he's worn over the years. So yeah....:o
