tlogank
In no way is this intended to be critical of Neowin, it is a legitimate question, but I have noticed thanks to Google Reader that Neowin is usually 2-3 days behind other tech sites (Gizmodo, Lifehacker, Engadget, etc) when it comes to technology news. Just curious if it is a longer approval process or what?
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted December 15, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 15, 2009 Neowin seems to re-report what others do, so there will be a lag I guess?
_V_
Neowin seems to re-report what others do, so there will be a lag I guess? Every tech news site is reporting the same news, but in a short time frame. Neowin indeed seems to have issues with reporting news in time. Sometimes you get the feeling you're viewing a cached neowin.net your browser loaded a couple days earlier.
User6060
because instead of users contributing to the site and posting news via submit to newsdesk we all just argue and post about obama
Guest-Attendent
I've noticed at times Neowin posts articles that are months old

Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted December 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 15, 2009 However at the same time over the past year and a half or so Neowin has been attempting to produce more Original content. And has even been on several news site and television for their breaking news.
acnpt
I don't think Neowin has any full time writers, unlike Engadget, The Register etc which I'm guessing must have.

I agree it must be that. I'm fond of Neowin, so tend to just stay here :)
JTaylor69
I think Neowin is quite fast sometimes. and the News is always worth reading as it is interesting. But that's just my opinion :)
Growled Member Posted December 15, 2009 Member Share Posted December 15, 2009 I too have noticed we seem behind everyone else. The news isn't the only reason I am here, though.
majortom1981
The reason is because neowin doesn't have any insiders (or very few of them). Neowin can only really get their news from other sites.
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted December 15, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted December 15, 2009 I think over 85% of the news staff has school, work, or other life commitments and simply don't write full-time as previously stated. Me for instance, right now I am in the middle of exams and presentations and can't fully commit to writing breaking stories. School takes priority over Neowin at the moment. Fred Derf Veteran Posted December 15, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 15, 2009 If you think we're missing out on something then submit it to the front desk. We do have editors that have been given the responsibility of approving submissions. [Thread Moved from GD to S&FI]
9UnknownMen
Whatever news I get off Neowin is usually from the forums(Back Page and Real World). The front page rarely has anything of interest outside the occasional editorial or insider story.
Steven P. Administrators Posted December 24, 2009 Administrators Share Posted December 24, 2009 You can't really see us as a site that can only break news, we do sometimes because we have close ties with Microsoft, but other tech stories are usually researched and yes there's an approval process that sometimes delays stories. I do think however that "2 or 3 days late" is a bit far fetched! Examples would have been welcome in this instance, since none are offered, we can hardly do a lot about it! pwnz0r3d
There are delays in the news posted on here, but i rarely visit technology sites outside Norway other than neowin so it has never been an issue to me. The sites here in Norway are usually even more behind. I'm not THAT bothered about staying up to date, that a day or two "old" news is devastating. What's great about sites like neowin too, is that you report about everything else also through the forums and backpage news, which the other sites i visit don't. Also like the site title says, it's unprofessional journalism, but you always link to the sources which is good.
