The Teej
Hey guys. Basically, my mum wants to venture into photography and is looking at getting an SLR Camera after enjoying taking pictures with her k800i. She can't really afford one, but I'm hoping to surprise her by getting one for her for Christmas - the only problem is I'm not that knowledgeable about cameras - I'm starting to learn more as I go about my research, but I'm not really sure what a good camera would be to be perfectly honest. My mum knows a bit more then me, but I don't want to go on about it too much or she'll suspect something :/ I know of some great SLRs, but they're obviously ?1000+ which is really out of my budget range! I'm hoping to go for something around the ?200-?250 range. I suppose I could -kind of- go to a ?300 limit, but I'd really rather not as it'd leave rather tight for other xmas pressies, not to mention general life costs for the rest of the month (I do retail - you can get my financial picture ;)). So, I was hoping I could ask you guys for some advice on what would be a suitable camera. I'd be -really- appreciative if you could! Many thanks! EDIT: Oh, as for brands, I was thinking Canon or Panasonic.
richardsim7
A Nikon D40 is a great little DSLR :)
CHALE
Nikon D40 or D3000 are very good cameras. The D3000 is the new version Nikon got out to replace the D40.
MR_Candyman
D3000 would be my recommendation. Why? It has nice features that make it easy for a beginner to learn
The Teej
Way, way out of my price range though :/
crazzy88ss
200 pounds is way way way below the DSLR range. The D3000 is literally the cheapest new DSLR you can get, therefore you'll have to go used. A used D40 should be roughly that price.
Argote
Sorry, but for new gear the cheapest (recent models) you can find are these two: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Alpha-A230L-D...4643&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Olympus-E-520-DSLR...4665&sr=8-1 If you can't stretch that much look into used gear, there are good online guides to know which gear is in good condition.
