+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 18, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 18, 2009 Introducing Heavy Rain Chronicles + The Special Edition BoxHi everyone ? Alex Pavey here, with some exciting updates on Heavy Rain ? the dark thriller from Quantic Dream where your choices can have dramatic consequences. Hopefully many of you will have seen some of the great first impressions of the game that are popping up all over the place. This is the first time that journalists have been given the opportunity to get to play through an extended series of scenes in sequence, so it's really exciting to see all the positive responses. Look out for the previews (though if you're trying to avoid even minor plot spoilers, be careful out there!). The Heavy Rain Chronicles First of all, I'm pleased to confirm that Heavy Rain will be supported by some very interesting downloadable content ? The Heavy Rain Chronicles. These are a series of additional, fully-playable scenes, where you'll learn more about the backstory of some of the characters you'll meet in Heavy Rain itself. The first episode will centre on Madison ? and the setting will be familiar to those of you who have been following the progress of Heavy Rain closely? Heavy Rain: Chronicle One ? The Taxidermist sees Madison Paige investigating a suspicious and reclusive taxidermist, and finding herself unexpectedly in grave danger. The episode is an expansion and update of the original 'Taxidermist' demo that received such a positive response when shown at E3 and gamescom last year. Chronicles One and Two will be available for download from the PlayStation Store after the launch of Heavy Rain early next year ? although there will be some opportunities to get hold of the episode a little earlier. Which brings me on to? Heavy Rain ? Collector's Edition I'm excited to announce the Heavy Rain Collector's Edition? The Collector's Edition is packaged in a special 'rain-effect' slipcase ? thanks to special embossing and other manufacturing tricks, it gives the impression of being streaked with 3D rain-drops (something that has confused a lot of people when they've seen it lying on my desk recently!). But cool as that is, that's not all. The Collector's Edition also contains a voucher to download the following additional content from the PlayStation Store: Heavy Rain: Chronicle 1 ? The Taxidermist ? Experience Madison's dangerous investigation in full, before it's available on the PlayStation Store The Heavy Rain Official Soundtrack ? Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios, and filled with the powerful orchestral themes that form a key part of the experience of playing Heavy Rain Dynamic XMB theme ? Lend a little Heavy Rain ambience to your XMB The ways in which you can get your hands on the Collector's Edition will vary across Europe, so keep a look out for more info on this soon. That's all for now, but I'll be around in the comments section for a while to answer any questions you might have ? and keep your eyes open for more Heavy Rain updates soon. MightyJordan
Looks like I'll be changing my pre-order to the Special Edition now when ShopTo get it up. Hopefully it isn't much more expensive than the standard edition (I'm getting it off ShopTo for ?32.95, so ?45 would probably be my max).
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 20, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 20, 2009 The DLC is prequels to the actual game, completely unnecessary to the game itself and doesn't change anything to do with it, nor add to it. When the game ends, it ends.
+virtorio MVC Posted December 20, 2009 MVC Share Posted December 20, 2009 I really want to like this game, but after watching Giant Bomb's Quick Look of Indigo Prophecy I'm not sure it's going to be for me.

Yet still has the name 'Heavy Rain' in the DLC, you can't say its not relevant to the game when it carries the games title! :p Not fussed but I don't see why this DLC could not be in the full game for some replayability or whatever. I agree, I thinkit's pretty insulting when 'paid for' DLC gets released at the same time as a game. I said the same about Forzas car pack but got shot down on that one though.....

Because the DLC isn't related to the Origami Killer, it's a prequel about the characters backgrounds. And you're talking about replayability, the game has 20 different endings. I will probably buy this game but I won't get the DLC. Almost sounds like wasted effort which could have been spent on the actual game.

For a start one of the DLC episodes is the episode specially created to show off the game before they wanted to reveal any story. Secondly, endings in most games vary by a 0.5% difference, someone says a different sentence or the sky is a different colour. For a multi-woven story based adventure with 4 characters that can all die I can bet the endings are more substantial than most games you save before the end boss and hit a different button at the end to see something slightly different. WastedJoker
It's the principal though - if you've coded something good enough to sell it should be in the retail game from the outset. Fair enough if you've released a game and 3 months down the line you've produced a little background story/side mission. It's the timing that offends. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 21, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) It's the principal though - if you've coded something good enough to sell it should be in the retail game from the outset.Fair enough if you've released a game and 3 months down the line you've produced a little background story/side mission. It's the timing that offends. Most DLC is coded from the get go, what do you think the developers do when the game is passed onto Q&A for the last 4 months or so, sit and twiddle their thumbs? As I've already pointed out one of the DLC episodes is the Taxidermist, the first scene we've ever been shown from Heavy Rain that was then shortly afterwards explained not to be in the game. Hey somethingatt ? I can promise you it's option 1 that you're looking at here. You'll get the full Heavy Rain experience on the main game disc ? the whole story arc, from beginning to end. Think of the Chronicles as similar to the web-based additional side episodes you sometimes get with TV shows ? they will enhance your enjoyment of Heavy Rain even more if you do play them, but you won't feel cheated if you choose not to ? it's completely up to you. Great to hear you're excited about Heavy Rain Source: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/12/18/.../#comment-46576 You don't even need Heavy Rain to play these Very slow on this. Sorry. SCEA's confirmed a pre-order program for Heavy Rain in NA, giving those that book early a free piece of DLC in a first episode of something called Heavy Rain Chronicles. "When you pre-order your copy of Heavy Rain at participating retailers, you will receive the first episode of The Heavy Rain Chronicles (valued at $4.99 each episode) titled, 'Heavy Rain: Chronicle One ? The Taxidermist,' which will be available (only to those who pre-order) when Heavy Rain hits store shelves." Pre-orders are open in the US and Canada now. This content is the scene showed for the game's reveal at Games Convention in 2008, and there's more to come. Worth noting that this is all stand-alone stuff ? you don't need Heavy Rain to play it (thanks, onlineatron). "Each Chronicle will offer unique, stand-alone, playable short stories featuring one of Heavy Rain's main characters, and a storyline taking place either before or after Heavy Rain's original narrative," said SCEA marketing bod Jefferson Dong, speaking on the US PS Blog. "Similar to Heavy Rain, each episode will offer a unique journey and different outcomes based on the players' decisions and actions." There's no date on Heavy Rain as yet, but it's expected in February.
