Livin in a box
A survey has leaked Sony's considered details for premium PlayStation Network subscription. According to the IPSOS Online Research survey (sent to Kotaku), Sony's premium subscription plans would include access to full hour game trials, free access to PSOne Classics, and cross-game voice chat. "Sony is considering offering a premium PlayStation Network subscription in the future," the survey says. "The subscription offering would provide new premium features you could choose to pay for and are in addition to the features currently available for free such as access to online multiplayer gaming (current features would remain free)." Premium users would also have access to Cloud Storage Space for Games, which would allow players to save their game online rather than on their hard disk, loyalty reward programs, automatic updates, member-exclusive Facebook Connectivity, an online music service and music video service, Hulu TV catch-ups, member-only game content, discounts, demo-sharing (sharing exclusive member-only demos from your full games with friends), and Netflix without a disc. The chart on this page details four potential plans; three costing $69.99 a year or $9.99 a month and one running $4.99 a month and $29.99 a year. The idea is clearly to add features on top of current PSN functionality and not, as some feared, about putting a price on online play. Fair play to Sony, we say. Source Well, maybe that's why we're not seeing cross-game voice chat yet- they want people to pay for it. And $69.99 a year (?43.31) is about the same as LIVE too...ah well, at least they're not taking away online play.
thealexweb
That charts a bit confusing there's no best option with everything.
tunafish
Thats a bit crap, 4 different options each well putting it bluntly not well speced. It's like all options are crap really. If im paying $70 i would want a few more things!
Livin in a box
If they're going to do it that way then I agree, they need more options than that to actually make a half decent option.
KoL Veteran Posted December 19, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 19, 2009 How about make just one option with everything in it?? :D

And $69.99 a year (?43.31) is about the same as LIVE too...ah well, at least they're not taking away online play. Well xbox live gold is $50 so it is $20 more (if that's the price they settle on). But that looks like quite a lot of extras and I'm sure that list will grow. Also, I'm sure everyone would agree that the subscription options will not be as complicatedc as shown on that table, I would say there'll only be 1 or 2 options. Generally I'm sure it will be tempting to lots of people once it's finalized.
Piggy
How about make just one option with everything in it?? :D Yep, that's what I want too. Also, a single lump sum per year.

SimplySchizo
3 options all @ $70 ? that make any sense ? the $70 alone is enough for me to call BS.

CentralDogma
They should just collapse all of them into one subscription. This way is too confusing. Also, sucks that cross game chat will need a subscription.
HawkMan
This is a survey to see which options users want. it's a pre developement thing. NONE of this is done or in most cases even in development yet. It'll be a long time untill this service is here so don't get too excited about cloud storage and all this stuff yet
Tech Star
I hope that they would do one option with everthing for around $50 year. Free PS1 classics, cloud storage, hulu, etc. would be epic. :D
Livin in a box
Or you could choose which ones you want and like make your own with your own price so you can get rid of what you don't want to pay for and keep everything you want. That would seem like a better approach if they do it in this format.
Bhav
SURVEY...nothing is finalised/necessarily happening! The thread title is very misleading! A survey on PSN subs has leaked...

They can't do "everything" or "pick what you want" subscriptions, because this is a survey to check wich packages people are most interested in, since NONE of this stuff is ready yet. This is a pre-development survey to check where the interest is and where they should put their focus and money when developing services for the future subscription package. The reason it's split up into 4 packages, and not a "pick your 10 favorite services" is because several of them would be developed by the same teams, so they would exclude each other. Since none of this stuff is done yet, and some of it isn't even in development yet, there will, as I said, be a long time till this sees the light. But expect that once the package that gets the most choices is all done. they'll work on the other stuff and implement it into the subscription later. It just happens they can't do everything at once.
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted December 20, 2009 Global Moderator Share Posted December 20, 2009 That charts a bit confusing there's no best option with everything. That's what I noticed. TheLaughingMan
Well I hope the final stage of the plan isn't gonna be at $70, maybe undercut XBL a lil and stay at $40 a year
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 20, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 20, 2009 Definitely just way to many options and $70 is steep for the top tier service. Real steep.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 20, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 20, 2009 Won't pay a dime for any online service, so as long as PSN remains free like Sony have said I'm happy carrying on with that. I won't even use cross game chat, but I just wish it would hurry up and be added so they mobs can move onto what the next 'holy grail' is deemed as for online play. The only thing I would even consider would be a small fee for unlimited access to PSOne classics, Minis and discounts on PSN games.

(Y) I might consider a subscription to movie rentals too (although with the Netflix mention, this survey is clearly targetted at the US)
Sethos
Paying for cross-game voice chat, now that would be hilarious in a very, very sad way.
LingeringSoul
How about make just one option with everything in it?? :D My thoughts exactly. Three year warranty for only one of the choices? Beta games for a $29.99 option and not a $69.99 option? Paying $69.99 and still not getting cross-game voice chat? I'm thinking that this is a very early survey, and when their final subscription plan is revealed, they'll have everything combined into one plan. Paying for cross-game voice chat is pretty bad. Paying for Facebook connectivity is even worse, lol.
Nimec
What about those of us who are not in the US? Like those of us in Canada? We don't get access to the movie store, Hulu, Netflix etc. These seem like a lot of premium options that because of laws Canadians are not allowed to use/participate in. We pay the same (actually we pay more with with US->CAD $ conversion) fee yet get less?
