[Official] Bioshock 2

Well I played it through on easy and I would estimate that my first run took me about 9 hours, Dionysus park isn't that far from the end though, you are about 3/4 of the way through the game

I've finished it in about 18 hours, maybe a little more. Despite my best efforts, I still missed several Power to the People stations, and apparently a bunch of audio logs as well. I'm particularly sad about the latter, will definitely do another playthrough to get all the audio logs in the future.

The game is simply awesome. It trumps the original in terms of gameplay and storytelling, and is simply the best FPS to come out in the recent years. If you ask me, Bioshock did not deserve it's GOTY title, but Bioshock 2 sure as hell does - I'll be extremely disappointed if it doesn't win.

Most people just took it as granted, but I'd like to highlight the fantastic voice acting in this game. From the audio logs of ordinary citizens to the progressively anxious confessions of Andrew Ryan himself, from the soothing yet cold voice of Dr. Lamb to Eleanor's passionate torrent of fear, love, desperation, her righteous fury. There are very few games where the voice actors alone managed to make their characters feel so real...I think I'm in love.

Wow 18 hours. I'm 12 hours in and only a quarter into Fontaine's Futuristics. I think it'll be an 18 hour game for me as well. I wonder why I've read so much about the reduced gameplay time since 18 hours is more than the first

Huge fan of the first, one of the best games Ive ever played. Been playing 2 for a few days now and the thing that grabs me is how amazingly silky it runs, Im blown away by that. Also the voice acting is top-notch. Developers need to look to this and Dragon Age for examples of how important quality voice acting is. Slight disappointment is this one doesnt feel as creepy as the first. The little sisters are not nearly as freaky looking.

I've been playing the game mostly at night with the lights out and my surround sound headphones and there are parts that get pretty damn creepy. Especially with the headphones because you can clearly hear the Splicer dialog in the background, those ****ers are crazy

Just started the PC version.

First thing I noticed was of course the graphics; they are better*. Asterik there for the very cheap looking plasmid effects which look added on as an after thought. Horrible presentation compared to the very high resolution textures BS2 uses. I'm impressed yet let down.

Gameplay wise, it is that old sinking feeling that I've played this before, and I'm having a hard time getting excited about running through this one.

That is the idea, rapture wouldn't be rapture if they gave it an entirely different look. It's all about continuation of storyline, to make you feel the "i'm back in the same setting" bit. Personally I feel a lot of people place too much emphasis on high res textures. Oh this one is 4096x4096... yep, I am sure that will look fantastic on my 1280x768 display. To me, high res textures only really make a big difference if you run games at really high resolution. Bioshock 2 looks very good as it is, I don't see why so many people are obsessed with the size of the textures, not to mention a lot of extra detail has been added to the background of the game, particularly the views through the windows at the outside, and the new underwater scenes are quiet awesome.

I would consider myself a diehard lover of the first game, and I wasn't disappointed in any way with Bioshock 2. To all the people complaining about the similarity, I say this: Why change something that wasn't broken in the first place? As far as I am concerned excessive departure from the original would just ruin the storyline of the game. I guess some people are hard to please.

I beat bioshock 2 in about 11 hours on medium. While I enjoyed the game very much, I found it to predictable. The gameplay is much improved but was lacking the " scary " factor from the first one. In the first Bioshock had an element of "WHAT WAS THAT" while Bioshock 2 has some cool parts, it just feels like no new ideas were made. I would of liked to also see new powers, some powers just feel useless.

Story wise, Bioshock 1 had way more depth, Bioshock 2 was more of throwing me in without letting me get to know the characters.

As much as I'm sure enough people have heard me whine about it on this forum before, I really hope the next bioshock is a prequel, the rise and fall of rapture

You can improve the graphics without changing the art style.

Kotaku said that it feels that way for a little bit at the beginning and then gets a ton better. Unfortunately I have only been able to play about half an hour so I can't comment.

I've been playing for about 9 hours already and am only at Dionysus Park. How long is this game supposed to be? I read that it's shorter than the first game.

Depends on how much you scavenge for every little plasmid, audio diary, etc. I just reached Dionysus Park myself (although I only played a day or so, then did Dante's Inferno (rental) and came back yesterday).

I thought the graphics look exactly the same, textures and all.

Oh no, BS 2 looks MUCH better visually; better details and higher resolution textures.

I loved BS 1, though The Darkness was my GOTY that year. My only gripe so far is that I'm not crazy about playing this game. I know the why and how's of rapture through the amazing cinematic drama that was the first game. I'm still not that far into the second game, so I'm waiting to feel the "need" to get involved. Regarding my critique of the textures, don't get me wrong, it is a great bonus! The first game shows its age already, and BS2 raises the bar quite a bit. Unfortunately the plasmid effects look horribly dated in comparison. I do play on a HD 4870 OC if that means anything in the grand scheme of things.

I'm in the same boat. The game visually and audibly looks great, though the story is extremely lacking right now :( Sad that everyone agrees on this till the end LOL. Guess that just means we all will love it!

Multiplayer is horrible, local host + windows live matchmaking = recipie for fail

Has run good on PS3 for me so far, tho I've only played up until level 9 (and I suck at online matches anyway)

Ok, major gripe: the FOV is screwed up, it is giving me headaches as the screen is to narrow. 2k promises a fix so now I'm waiting to see what they do. :(

this happened with the first one as well. I noticed right away in this one what you described. I'm not getting headaches, but I do feel my field of vision is cramped...noticed that right off. The view needs to be pulled back just a bit. You can see that your hand is cut off at the wrist when it should be showing an inch or 2 of wrist. They fixed it very good in the first. I'm surprised they did it again in this one tho.:ermm:

I wonder how they managed to screw this up yet again. Bioshock suffered from exactly the same issue, that they had to hotfix in short order.

^ It really is embarrassing. I feel as if I"m squinting while i play, and I know I shouldn't have to!

I think 2k said that it was a late fix that didn't work well with the release code, so they cut it out to fix later. How do they do this twice?! The BS 1 fix was amazing, and I loved it.

Just finished the game. Went into it with the worst expectations but realized how great the game is as I was playing. My only complaint is that protecting the little sisters gave the game somewhat of an unnecessary extention of gameplay duration. Other than that I absolutely loved it.

Ending question:

I choose at the very end "Save myself" and Eleanor and she puts the sword thru me and kills me. If I choose "Sacrifice" what happens? She kills Sofia BTW

Loved it. Loved it alot more than BS1.

Id like a BS3 but Im thinking prequel??
