Krockett
This is pretty pathetic Im only 22 and I am kinda bored by todays up-comming and new Games on both PC and Consoles...I mean dont get me wrong Im not bashing any specific title, console, system or setup. Its just I miss all the old games I used to play on SNES/Genesis that made me love video games in the first place. I mean every now and then a title will come along that blows me away and I have a blast playing it...but ultimately I guess I miss the feeling of fighting with a cartridge to get it to work and getting completely sucked into and old SNES RPG, and maybe it was just the kid in me and I was completely Naive to fact that I was playing a sucky games, but I miss the old days of gaming when it wasn't about a gamer score/ achievements and just about playing an awesome game being excited to bring to your buddies house and staying up all night beating the same game 40+ times....does anyone else feel the same way...or is it just me. LOL feel free to make fun off me...Im just saying I miss the good old days... :(
Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted December 26, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 26, 2009 I kinda feel the same way (also I am 22 as well) I miss the good old days of 2D Zelda, and Pixel Final Fantasy games lol :p
Krockett
Thats exactly what I'm talking about Zelda: a link to the past....is the game that made me a gamer....lol
Doli
I feel the same way. Someone posted a YouTube video of a kid playing Contra and he said the game was hard and not like Halo. I miss games where there are enemy fire"dots" flying all over the place and you have to dodge them in a 2D world, no regenerating health or shields just 1UPs. It could also be just being young that made it great when you think about those games (same for songs, movies, toys etc...). Good times.

Yeah I dont know what it is but, games like FF on the SNES and Chrono Trigger...made me care about the game and the lead, alot of todays have a faceless lead or a COPY PASTE "Bada**" lead that you could care less for. Chernobylite
I see what you guys are saying to an extent and gaming as a whole has come up against some hard times. I'm 29 and have been a very avid gamer since the NES and it does seem gaming has lost some of it's magic but there are still gems out there to be found or made, just don't get to the point were your writing everything off and you'll see what I'm saying. Tech Star
I agree, there was really great and awesome games back then and it basically ended when the 90's were over. I loved the old Sony PS1 Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, but now its just different. :/ Same thing with Cartoons, the old ones (Loony Tunes, Scooby-Doo, etc.) are better than todays (Yu-Gi-Oh and all that other crap today). :/

Yeah I get what your saying...I guess Im so JADED by all the BS games out there its hard to keep looking for that diamond in the rough....like I said some games still blow me away...I guess more than anything I love the feel of an old 2d masterpiece. I have another post that I just posted were I annouced we just found out my wife is pregnant(SO HAPPY) I kinda wish that HE/SHE can experience great games like that in their lives, and right now I don't see anything that will make a impact on their lives like those old games did me...I kinda understand now when my father says music isn't like what it used to be....I feel the same way about gaming. lol.... AaronMT
Games are changing but it's all smoke and mirrors to how you originally felt growing up with first experiences of amazement and awe of seeing groundbreakers like, 'Doom'. Today's games and today's youth are experiencing what we felt 10-15 ago. Think about it. Lego hasn't changed but I'm sure if you sat down today and played with Lego, you wouldn't have the same type of experience as you once had as a child. Bawx
I miss the days of waking up at noon and playing CS 1.6 until 6am the next morning. Constantly on Ventrilo, hanging with everyone and making them die laughing. Do about 40 scrims a day. :(
carmatic
the new games are all too cheesy... with lyrics in their music, main characters with too much emotion, dumbed down level design and storylines.... the graphics are better thats for sure, but in most cases that also takes away the feeling of using your imagination to flesh out the game world, rather than the imagination of the artists who made the game... when you look back at the old games, after having been exposed to the new stuff nowadays, you see how mediocre and inferior they are, and you have to remind yourself how much fun you had with them, when you didnt have to try to look past their flaws because there was nothing better to compare to... even if you could, like, emulate old console games 100% on your computer, they still wouldnt look right on a modern high resolution LCD screen... the emulator could try to use filters to compensate for it, but you'd be in 'demoscene' and 'visualizer' territory, it would be a blast to look at but it wouldnt be the same as the real thing... I used to love NES/SNES games as a kid, but now (I'm 29) I would go back and play these very same games on an emulator on my PC and it just isn't the same anymore. Which is why you should buy Demons Souls, old school feel with today's graphics. Yes, I secretly get paid money by Atlus to promote the game. Purple Haze
Lots of things contribute to that feeling - hard to top the first game(s) you played, gaming's running out of breakthroughs to make, the economy's made creativity risky, etc. But I don't think I'll live to see either a) the time when games and gaming hardware stops finding ways to improve, or b) the time I stop finding games fun. And at 29, I should have 50 years or so to go (I hope!).
