emmx
I live in Okinawa, Japan so it's a tad harder for me to get new products right away. I've been waiting patiently for the Magic Mouse to come to a nearby PX/BX. I finally saw some today so I picked one up! I love this thing. I'm a big guy so I have big hands, but I still love this mouse! I'm accustomed to using fancy Logitech mice that are comfortable with my hands. I'm just also one of those Mac fetish people who love everything Mac so I love it! Not having an actual scroll wheel will take a bit of getting used to. Has anyone else picked one of these things up? How do you like it?
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted December 27, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 27, 2009 I ordered one in early December, which arrived last weekend. Like you I used to be accustomed to ergonomic Logitech mice - from the MouseMan I bought back in 1993 to the MX Revolution which is now standing on the desk and collecting dust. Getting used to the Magic Mouse took a day at most. It's the first good Apple mouse in ages. I hated the Mighty Mouse which came with my iMac. I have relatively small hands, so the size was not an issue for me. Hint: If you want more functionality than the Apple Mouse preferences pane delivers, take a look at MagicPrefs - a small freeware app which sits in the menu bar. To quote their website: It features the ability to bind a variable number of finger clicks, taps, swipes, pinch and other gestures to functions like Middle Click , Hold Down Both Mouse Buttons , Spaces , Expose, Dashboard etc.Touch Sensitivity implements a single point control for a number of factors impacting the algorithms of the taps, swipes, pinche and other gestures. Tracking Speed adds the ability to increase the maximum mouse speed by a extra 200%. Also featured is a real-time display of the fingers touching the surface of the mouse that you can enable to test and monitor the way the mouse sees your input. Hope to have helped. StraightLeft
very nice mouse. I will try that also.
PyX
I just convinced one person to buy it because his Mighty Mouse was broken :) The only real problem with this mouse is, let's admit it, it's not ergonomic. Oh and it's probably not extreme for gaming, but gaming in OS X is not what it should be... so I guess it's not much of a problem :-\ I surprised another person with the mouse also, but he was thinking it was too small, not ergonomic for his hand. So he thought about buying it, but he won't. But all in all, great technology, innovative, almost unbreakable because there are less mechanical components (less buttons = less breakable stuff, unless you drop it or hit it obviously), very beautiful. I guess because of the multitouch functionality it is worth its dollars.
Simon Veteran Posted December 28, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 28, 2009 Got one for Christmas. Initially, I really didn't like it, but I was accustomed to using 3 fingers on the top surface. Switched to 2 fingers, now it's much more comfortable. The scrolling is remarkable, that's really the killer feature. Gonna mess around with that app a bit now... Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted December 28, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 28, 2009 I tried one when I went to the apple store a few days after it was released and I was not really much of a fan of it. Then again at the time it was just strange. i kinda want to get one however for the time I do not have a use for it. Being that i use my Aluminum Mac Keyboad (with number pad) on my PC and i have a Logitech G9 for the mouse.
Shadrack
I'd like one to play around with. The Mighty Mouse left a really bad taste in my mouth, however... it was more annoying than useful for me.

Tech Star
I tried it at Best Buy last week and I liked it. I still would use my Logitech G7 because I play games on my PC, but if I didn't I would use the Magic Mouse as it was really comfortable and nice.
protocol7
Does it work on Windows? It works as a basic mouse, but there's no Windows driver to get all the fancy multi-touch stuff. So it's not really Magic at all on Windows. What puts me off is the lack of a middle click. Hoping they add that to a later revision, then I might bite. Can get middle click back if you use the MagicPrefs thing linked above.

emmx
I have found a few annoyances with this mouse since I bought it. The first one is more of just a habit of mine that I didn't really think about or know I had until now. I find my pointing finger constantly making its way to the "middle" of the mouse. So when I think I'm clicking on something it actually registers as pushing the middle button down. It's basically my own fault for my habit and how I hold the mouse. It's hard for me to keep my finger in the left click area. I hold it more of a 35-40 degree turn to the left rather than running parallel with my forearm. That's not just this mouse, but any mouse I use. I guess I could rid of the middle click action and make them both act as a left click, but I'd rather tough it out and break the habit because I like to use middle click for my gadgets. Also, I play WoW and I have holding right and left click down to move. If I try this with the magic mouse it seems to think I am "middle clicking". Either that, or it's totally confused and doesn't know what I want to do because holding both sides of the mouse down does not make my character move. I'm sure both things can be solved somehow but it will take some adjusting on my part.
swiftflo5
Nice to use but, have plenty of spare batteries, I can get through a pair of batteries in 2 weeks. I understand Apple are aware of this problem so hopefully they will come up with a fix.

Gone
How much did it cost at your PX? I'm debating on wether I want to get one, I don't feel the need though because I really only play MW2 , its been a loooong time since WoW. Another random question, on base do you have normal power outlets?
Cy-Kill
emmx, Here is something you should check out: MagicPrefs is a must download for Magic Mouse ownersWe know the Magic Mouse is selling well. I was one of the many who was pretty excited when I heard about it and grabbed one the first week it was out. When I actually went to use it, however, it was a major downer. On my Mac Pro the tracking was erratic, slow, and pretty unusable. I wasn't the only person reporting this. I put the mouse on my shelf of forgotten tech until a friend told me about MagicPrefs. MagicPrefs is a free utility that runs from your menu bar and fixes the problems some Mac Pros had with the Magic Mouse. http://www.tuaw.com/2009/12/31/magicprefs-...c-mouse-owners/
TogaForComfort
I don't like it. It's too low for me and does not feel natural. I tried one at work and my wrist started to ache after about half an hour. I really like the scroll/gestures feature but I'll stick with the Mighty Mouse for now. This was actually the first potential issue that popped in my head when I first saw the magic mouse. This problem also exists on the original Mighty Mouse and on Macbook's touchpads. Can you rebind the key in WoW to middle-click?

emmx
Cy-Kill, Yeah I have that now! Mephistopheles mentioned that in the 2nd post. It's definitely a nice utility to have in conjunction with the Mighty Mouse. EDIT: Spelling error.

andrew_f
This mouse isn't ergonomic, but it doesn't hurt my wrists or feel odd to me. I think for a mouse which is arguably design over comfort it's pretty good in the comfort dept.
