Dan~
So, here I was playing COD 4 minding my own business. Go to another map and the picture looked all screwed up, like blobs of colour and kind of pixelated. I thought it was just the map for some reason, so turned it off, turned it back on and I get 3 red rings. If I take out the HDD it'll boot back up and still get the horrible graphics issues. But if i keep it in there, it doesn't boot up at all. Is it shagged? Or shall I just buy a new one, considering there cheap as chips? Only problem is, I want my game saves. Is there a way I can buy a memory stick, and then save my saves onto it (actually that doesn't work, because the HDD is having problems) Any suggestions? DJGM
If it's under 3 years old, register the console with XBox support, order a repair and get it shipped off back to Microsoft. They'll have it repaired for free as part of the 3 year warranty covering RRoD and E74 issues. You'll only need to send off the console itself. Detach the HDD, power brick and any other accessories. Shipping is free ... AIUI, they send a courier firm (UPS?) to collect it, and the same firm to bring it back. Dan~
Cool thanks for that. I've filed out the form, however I'm sure it's more than 3 years old, but didn't come up with a warning on the website only "standard warranty expired" so hopefully it'll all be free. Wouldn't mind fixing it myself as it looks fun, but if I can get it repaired for free by Microsoft I will.

SO just find the expiration dated and add two years to that, if that date is greater than the current date, send it in. If it's not, I believe they will want 150 dollars, don't quote me on that, but it's somewhere around there.
Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted December 28, 2009 Veteran Share Posted December 28, 2009 I have had 4 Xbox 360s, 3 PS2s, 1 Wii, 1 PS3, so its just a matter of how quickly and poorly they manufacture things without good quality control. The last time i read anything about failure rates the Xbox 360 had a 62% failure rate. which as far as i am concerned they should take it off the market till they fix the manufacturing issues. Although i might be worried about that note. Does it only display the 3 red lights when the hard drive is attached? And when it's not, it still boots just crappy graphics? Well the only issue is: If it's under the 3 red light RROD extended warranty, you will send it in WITHOUT the hard drive. So if they turn it on and test it (assuming they arent ridiculously stupid), they won't see 3 red lights and therefore you will be SOL.

Indeed ... best to get Microsoft techies to fix it for nowt. You'll just be without your console for a little while. As for anyone thinking of fixing an XBox360 console RRoD ... it isn't worth bothering unless you've got the proper equipment and you know exactly what you're doing. The towel trick and the X-clamp trick don't work long term, and with the towel trick, there's always a risk of starting an electrical fire. -Viper-
I just had to send my xbox 360 in to Microsoft last week. My manufacture date was in 2005 but was still covered under the warranty. I though I was going to have to wait for the full 2 - 3 weeks to get it back, but they sent me a new referb console with a 1 month xbox live card. All in all, it cost me nothing and I got it back in about 10 days, and this was even over the Christmas holidays... Hope this helps some.
