Want to get my wife into gaming...

My girlfriend is embarrassing.

She only likes really lame games like Guitar Hero/Rock Band or Sing Star.

I'd rather chew my own leg off and stab my eyes out with the broken gnawed thigh bone than play those awful games.

How do you think I feel? Lol. I bought GH simply for the idea of having something to play with her (she liked GH3 at E 4 All '07), and she played it 4 times. Rock Band (even bought drums so we could play together), about 4 times.

I bought her Okami, since she likes art, and she played it once, asked me to get her the BradyGames book, which I did, she has yet to pick it back up.

She does, however, get into watching me play GTA or God of War. Stuff without inventories or minigames (like the Bioshock hacking) that's boring to watch.

I have to say there have been a few games, Oblivion was a big one, where she wouldnt let me progress when she wasnt there, just because she enjoyed the content but knew she couldnt spare the time to pick up and play it.

Prince of Persia too, and I think Mass Effect she enjoyed watching, but I get really narky about backseat players - if you want to watch, watch, if you want to play it, play it, but dont ****ing tell me what to do every three seconds woman!!! Yes, I may not have noticed that incredibly obvious shiney that I need to pick up, but I dont need you harrassing me like it's the most important thing in the game!! Id be like hey, this is my game and I know how to play it, now stop telling me to dress up like the postman and get in the kitchen and make me some pie!!

My wife plays DS games a lot, New Mario Bros, Brain Age, etc and now plays New Mario Bros Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, Wii Sports and Zuma on Xbox Live Arcade. She can sort of play Halo but really needs to work on the dual thumbstick coordination.

Wow I'm really surprised at the number of people who were in the same perdicament as me be it a wife or a girlfriend.

Yesterday I got home early from work and decided to play some assassins creed 2. After about an hour I was surprised to see that my wife was sitting in silence watching the whole time just really into the story unfolding. She asked me what was going on so I paused the game and told her about Desmond and the animus and the first game and I gotta say as a gamer watching my non gamer wife as I said all this it is a lot to wrap your head around. After another hour of playing I turned it off and suggested a 2 player game. I put in Lego batman and we played for lime 10 mins and she kept lagging behinds and getting stuck I was very supportive but she got frusterated and we turned it off and watched the bluray of American psycho I picked up on boxing day for $7! :)

I'm gunna try little big planet tonight but I honestly think she needs a more simple control scene maybe a step back in tech?

Thanks again for all the replies I like reading all of them even the off topic bragging ones ( *******) lol

I read a preview of Heavy Rain to my fiance yesterday, she seems interested in watching that game (weird concept, I know, "watching a game", but it worked for MGS4).

its kind of the opposite in my relationship, I'd rather be playing Counter Strike Source or Halo3 match making anything FPS multiplayer... by my bf would rather sit on his computer and read up on photography and computer stuff :( wahh

The boyfriend and I have been playing games together for years. Believe me, it's absolutely loads of fun to enjoy these games together as a couple. I do have to say, though, it's gotten to the point that I'm often gaming without him because he has less time for it.

The first game I really got into was Halo, then of course Halo 2 and 3 followed. Those were the only ones I really played for a long time, but then I got into the Call of Duty games; by far my favorites (currently addicted to MW2). We also play GoW2's multiplayer on occassion and pretty much any other decent game we can get our hands on. Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil 5, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Prototype, Fable II, Army of Two, Assassin's Creed 1 & 2 etc.

A lot of people wouldn't recommend Halo, I'm sure, but it's definitely a game I might start her on. I'm far more into FPS games, but I know a lot of other girls like puzzle and family-type games. Unfortunately, I don't really play these so I can't think of any to suggest, but I'm sure you can find some through a google search.

Good luck! And if she ever needs a fellow girl gamer to chat with, you know where I am!

I'm quite a lucky guy by the sound of it then. :o My girlfriend loves gaming but prefers games that are easy to get to grips with, Bomberman LIVE is her favourite, but games like Call of Duty and Gears of War are too complicated in her eyes.. but then again she loves Borderlands and Halo.. I suppose she just needs to find something she likes!
