+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 28, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 28, 2009 (edited) What was yours? I'm talking about smaller titles not sold in retail (For PC owners/iPhone/DSi Ware/PSP Minis as well, they're all okay). While I'm addicted to Hustle Kings just now, I have to give it to Flower... +Mystic MVC Posted December 28, 2009 MVC Share Posted December 28, 2009 Definitely Shadow Complex or BF1943. Talk about complete titles right there, definitely all around experiences that I could spend hours going back and playing.
____
Shadow Complex was #1 for me, with Trials HD, Peggle and Secret of Monkey Island SE as runners up.

This (Y) The most unique game experience I've had in years. Brilliant graphics and a great soundtrack too just made me want more. Hopefully they will do something similar as the game was reasonably short iirc about 1-2 hours but certainly a great game.
Coldgunner
Not necessarily indie, but tetris on PSP mini. Is Braid 2009? thats pretty good.
.KICK
Flower was okay but it was uber short! Trials HD get the vote from me, that game is awesome and just got the new pack which is pretty good too. Played it so much! :D

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 29, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 29, 2009 Wipeout HD Ended up being a full retail game, as well as what Mystic said, I think it was 2008, with Fury Expansion in 2009 sold together as a retail game. Strangely I think it was only retail in the EU as I've looked previously for US versions and never found one. But yeah old game so not really 2009. soniqstylz
Pixel Junk Shooter - PSNShadow Complex - XBLA Trine - PC Trine's on PSN, too. Flower for me as well, though. Didn't play too much PSN this year.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 29, 2009 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 29, 2009 I bought Trine on the PS3 as it was on sale but I really find it a pain in the ass having to swap between characters :( Game would easily be best played with 3 people. At first I thought it was just going to be one of those games where it's more fun with 3, not you NEED all 3 characters.
AbandonedTrolley
Pixel Junk Shooter - PSNShadow Complex - XBLA Trine - PC Shooter was good (actually great), but I think the whole new gamplay that Flower brought made it that little bit more special for me. It's a one-button click. I use the thief for all platforming, the warrior for all fighting, and the mage for boxes and crap. Although I'm only on the 3rd level. Yeah I semi do hear you, but Flower just did not fully Wow me. I give them amazing credit for making something so different and unique, and based on that I could easily pick it, but I am going based on what I enjoy playing the most, and that is by far PJShooter. But as I said, I could easily pick Flower just on artistic merits, and I could see it being deserving of Independent GOTY. Shadow Complex was by far my favorite followed up by BF1943 I know BF1943 is an XBLA and PSN game, but I personally do not view it as such. To me that was just the means of distribution for the title, but it brings up an interesting discussion of what is and what is not considered an Independent game. As far as Independent games, it's hard for me to label games like Flower, Trials HD, or Shooter "Indie Games", and definitely not Wipeout HD. Although they are developed by small studios, the big companies still have a big hand in the game. One of the only big-selling downloadable games made from a truly indie developer I can think of right now that came out this year is Splosion Man
