Post your 2010 Video Game Predictions

Recommended Posts

My predictions are:

> GT5 will sell well (because of the fans like myself who will buy it blindly :p) but be torn to pieces (in a bad way) by the media.

> Starcraft 2 will be the biggest selling game of all time.

> Mass Effect 2 will probably slip under the radar and have only average sales (due to most people been focused more on releases of GT5, FFXIII etc)

> Bioshock 2 will also probably slip under the radar and have only average sales.

> Mass Effect (and possibly Mass Effect 2) will be announced for PlayStation 3 (with most likely 2011+ release date) - we all know EA can't resist forever not milking it.

> Elder Scrolls V will be announced.

> Project Natal will be announced as the default controller interface for "Xbox Next".

> Project Gotham Racing 5 will be announced and possibly released in 2010.

> Jade Empire 2 will be announced (there has been a rumor going around that BioWare are planning a sequel).

> Bungie announces new game (not based in Halo universe).

I'm most likely totally wrong :p but oh well, still fun to see what others thinks too!

EDIT:

...

Didn't Sony say the PS3 has a ten year life cycle? I believe it does, as the hardware still hasn't reached its full potential.

...

Yes they did but so does the PS2 and we didn't wait 10 years for the PS3. What they mean is they'll support the console for 10 years with updates and new software (games), but it isn't to say they won't release a new console within that time frame. The PS4 is rumored to be a minor upgrade on the PS3 hardware and is set for a 2012 release but nothing official of cause and it can change (and knowing Sony it will...several times :p).

First off, depending on how MS choose to launch Natal, my prediction of a new MS console in 2010 could "technically" still happen.

My Predictions

Alan Wake is going to kick ass.

The PS3 will be within a million consoles sold to the 360 by the end of 2010.

Max Payne 3 is going to (unfortunately) be mediocre.

God Of War 3 is going to be the best selling PS3 game to date.

Bungie will introduce its brand new IP around May.

Cliffy B from Epic is going to not only announce but show video of his survival horror side project.

Doom 4 will be released for Holiday 2010.

Half Life 2 Episode 3 will be given a release date of somewhere between November 13th to 23rd.

Speaking of Valve, a new Counter Strike will be announced, but will not be released this year.

Since I started the other thread about Piracy, I predict Starcraft 2 will be the most pirated game on the PC. Halo Reach on the 360

Nintendo are going to announce a new game in the Donkey Kong series and will release a new Mario Kart at the holidays.

I am sure I could sit here for days and have stuff pop into my head, but those are the quick things that pop into my head.

The PS3 will definitely have a pay version of the PSN in 2010, but MP gaming will still be free for all.

And perhaps my biggest out on a limb prediction by far, Microsoft is going to announce a whole new project related to Live that is going to be something like what Sony wanted to do with Home, but it will actually be successful. It will be closer to an MMO / resource management game like The Sims meets World Of Warcraft. You will be able to also play it through your browser using IE. It will be integrated into Twitter, Facebook, etc. They are going to try and create what they believe to be a whole new genre of social video game even though it will technically just be based on stuff already out there right now.

And what is funny, is I only ready Massiveterra's OP and did not read what anyone else said, and I am starting to go back and read others and see a few of us think the exact same things.

I predict I'll be banned from Neowin by arguing Heavy Rain is actually a game and not a movie with a load of the board.

Hehe know you're not alone atleast I think heavy rain may not end up being a awesome game (especially since there are already sites saying the voice overs are sub par which for that game could be devastating) but it could be something to make developers rethink how they present their games it could bring a bit of change to the industry. I'd love to play it but unfortunately it is ps3 only so i'll just have to watch a lot of videos showing it lol.

If you do get banned for that, add me to the list, as I'll be doing the same thing.

Or banned for hyping GT5 up to be something made by Jesus but it'll actually just be decent then I'll defend it to death and call people names.

Something like that...

I predict that I'll get a ban before you for being an ass - Game on!

I think someone needs to release Demon's Souls over here a bit sharpish, or we're gonna have a little war on our hands.

I agree about Bioshock2. I loved Bioshock, but I am really uninterested in Bioshock 2, I probably won't bother with it.

In my opinion, I thought Bioshock played alright in terms of gameplay, but it was below average in everything else. If they can improve the graphics, write a much better story (and maybe throw in a couple of multiplayer modes), then it might work.

I'd agree that Bioshock missed it's mark. In previews before the game was released it sounded alot more ambitious. But it was still a very good game to me.

Massiveterra: Your predictions seem odd. You will most definitely go hungry as a Fortune Teller (This is not a prediction).

Anyways, I don't believe that Bioshock will do any bad in terms of sales. Not at all.

Mass Effect 2 gets GOTY, everyone forgets that there are months after January.

One more prediction, Splinter Cell Conviction will be released to mixed reviews, there will be those who give it between the 80-100 range and those who won't accept that it's not the same Sam Fisher experience and rate it horribly (between 10-50) due to it being Michael Bayed up.

The reason for all of my "3" predictions is because I heard something from 1up.com recently where they weren't allowed to spill the beans yet but they dropped a hint saying something like "There will be announcements about games with '3' in the title from big games in 2009 with '2' in the title, and people will be surprised how soon they are released."

So I guess something like Uncharted 3 might not happen because of the scale of the game.

But when you look at Assassin's Creed 2, many parts of the game was outsourced, so instead of solely one studio working on the whole game, they had many. If they stuck with this model, and used basically the same technical resources used in AC2, I can definitely see AC3 released by next holiday season.

Now let's talk about Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare 2 is the biggest game ever released commercially. Activision and IW aren't stupid. They knew it was going to be. It's no question how short the single player experience was. This was probably for good reason other than they didn't want to draw it out. I'd like to make a comparison to the movie industry for a second. When Matrix 2 and Lord of the Rings 2 were announced, they filmed the third movies in each series respectively, at the same time. I'm not a developer, but couldn't this happen with games?

The release of MW2 proved that anything with the MW tag will sell. And sell huge. If they developed MW3 concurrently or continued on to MW3 after MW2 development wrapped up, they would use the same engine and same online model, add a few perks and weapons and millions and millions of people will buy it next Christmas.

Now as far as Treyarch, I think the best decision they can make as far as a next game would be a game focused on Nazi Zombies. Nazi Zombies was the most popular thing about CODWAW and is this month's highest selling iphone game. If they made an 8 hour 4 player coop shooter based on Nazi Zombies with an actual story, I would buy it. But if IW would release MW2 by christmas next year, I don't think Treyarch would release a Nazi Zombie game until Q1 of 2011.

I predict:

Heavy Rain will either be amazing or a massive Daikatana-style fail. No middle ground.

MAG will be a 5-minute wonder.

Halo Reach will be good but hated because it isn't a cartoon.

Gran Turismo 5 will be so incredibly boring.

Less than 5 minutes

Seriously though, who cares about MAG when BFBC2 is coming out in March?

Oh and Massiveterra Nice!

Nice! How did I get all those stars?

I've played the betas of both games, and they're both just terrible. MAG is a little better though, due to the MMO aspect, and it's easier to play.

Fanboys I guess, all I've heard about MAG is that it's a seriously weak console shooter with a great number of players.

The Socom crowd will eat up MAG, seriously, wherever those guys come from they must all be ex-military built norwegian death metal listening nut jobs.

You do one thing wrong in Socom and they'll come to your house and bitch slap you.

MAG is the type of game that should be commended technically, appreciated for trying to bring large scale tactical war, but will sadly falter under the unstable and unpredictable idiocy of the console user generation.

Apart from those that move over from the Socom crowds, they'll have a good time. One of us randomly picking up MAG it's really 50/50 right now on how much you'll get from it.

It's one of those games I think most gamers will find hard not to appreciate what Zipper have tried to do and on the scale on a console, but you kind of look at them and say what sort of expectations do you have from your audiences? MAG would work great on the PC.

I think they have tried to address that by breaking you into teams of 8 and basically issuing you with objectives within smaller areas of the map, but it's all up in the air still how well it will pan out.

Heavy Rain will either be amazing or a massive Daikatana-style fail. No middle ground.

Middle ground? Who made that term up.

In the Neowin GH there is never a middle ground, it's either gushing love GOTY best thing ever, or total pile of **** who made this crap?

It will falter because it has been downsized to basically a 2003 shooter all to suit the insane amount of players - The game looks meh, plays meh and will overall be pretty damn meh.

I agree with most of what you're saying, it's a poor mans console BF2, but one thing I can't bring myself to attack are the looks.

I think it looks pretty acceptable considering 256 players and all that's going on. The engine is pretty darn stable, the tech is what holds it back being any better, that being the PS3.

Next generation shooters on such a scale should match what the smaller shooters we have right now are able to and maybe then some.

I think Zipper have really taken on this project as more of a hey look at what CAN be done on consoles, maybe not ideal right now, but one day we're going to get large tactical battles by more and more devs. Next generation will obviously be better for it as well.

Best for them just to get back to working on Socom 4, not forget about MAG, but just see where MAG itself and it's community goes first before going all pessimistic on it.
