Cy-Kill
Is that even possible? One of the advantages of digital distribution is that you'll never run into a sold out sign - or so we thought. Steam seems to have completely run out of 2K's Prey. Who knew?2K's futuristic alien shooter Prey was part of the ongoing Steam end-of-the-year sale, until they ran out. That's right, Steam is completely sold out of a downloadable title, running out of keys for the game before the sale could run its course. How does this happen? Well this is speculation, but I would assume a game like Prey requires some sort of CD key, which are generated by the company selling it on Steam, and there is a finite number of them available. http://kotaku.com/5436298/steam-sold-out-o...try-again-later
Sethos
Yes, Comic Book Guy, it's possible when they have a limited amount of keys Why the hell is this even news when there's a perfectly good explanation?
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted December 30, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted December 30, 2009 They even said on the Prey page that they can't supply people with it because they ran out of keys and would have to order more. They don't just have a keygen and shell out random codes. They purchase product keys from the publisher just like you and I might. xD

Interesting to know!
