Kondrath
I've been searching for a good MMO for the past few days. I'm not a serious player or anything, but I can't seem to find anything "fun". I used to play WoW back in 04 and 05, it was neat I guess. But I don't want to pay to play. My friend gave me a guildwars account last year, which was nice, haha. He bought the game and it included 3 account serials or something. I played that for a couple of days and quit. I guess I'm just really picky. I really like the "anime" looking games, but tend to hate the way they are just GRIND, GRIND, GRIND! Kart Rider was pretty awesome, but who know when that's ever coming back. Project Torque was alright, but I got bored. Man, I seem to get bored with everything these days :/ Dragonica kept me occupied until I realized that every single mission and boss was the exact same thing -__- ... Cy-Kill
Maybe http://sunonline.webzen.net/ pretty fun combat! You forgot to mention, classes are gender locked, there's absolutely next to no customisation of your character, the grind is terrible, and the list goes on. Midge
Really depends what your looking for imo... if you want something thats just a grind from A to B get something like AION, i really enjoyed it but couldnt commit to it due to running a fairly large corp in EVE. if your looking for a sandbox game and like the scifi genre go for eve imo. Midge
True. I think of EVE as a good mmo for people who don't want to play all that much. The game is great if you are busy with work, etc, since you can just train skills in the background, logon and play for a bit. The game kinda sucks though, if you have time off, since you are just sitting and waiting for skills to be done. :/Also, it helps knowing that the 14 year old who has all day to sit at home, isn't getting too far ahead of you in his skill advancement. :p if you sit around waiting for skills to be done your doing it wrong... get a ship put some guns on it and go kill some people. a common misconception is that skillpoints matter, i have a total of 42 and 46 on my 2 characters, but flying a specific ship will only take into account maybe 5m of skills.. specialise and you become effective
3nd3r
I just wish some of these game designers would let us linux guys have some fun with a 3D mmorpg. the ones that are native to linux all SUCK. the graphics suck, the UI sucks, everything sucks. on that note, anyone know of any newest linux compatible mmorpgs? :)

Cy-Kill
WoW works fine in Linux using wine. Or you can use Cedega, which is an optimized version of WINE for gaming: http://www.cedega.com/
PricklyPoo
if you sit around waiting for skills to be done your doing it wrong...get a ship put some guns on it and go kill some people. a common misconception is that skillpoints matter, i have a total of 42 and 46 on my 2 characters, but flying a specific ship will only take into account maybe 5m of skills.. specialise and you become effective No, at first you definitely have to wait quite a bit to do anything effectively. You can run missions on the side, pvp, etc, but it honestly doesn't work all that well. It isn't easy attempting to pvp solo and trying to find a suitable target either. Usually you will get your ass handed to you by a much better ship. So I think that you can entertain yourself at the start much more easily by joining a corp, since you can rely on them for a lack of skill points that a person might have. A lot of those 40+ million skill points actually give you a huge advantage. If you had the skills to fly a battleship + those SP, and you pvp'd a person with just the BS skills, you would most likely dominate them...easily. After you add up all the erroneous skills, you probably put out twice the damage, tank twice as much as he does, your drones will do 2-3X more damage, etc. The only real solution I see is to join a good corp and like you said, specialize in certain aspects that you might like. But flying solo definitely requires you to have some SP's if you want to PVP, or do anything too serious. I guess you don't need all that much to fly covert ops, etc, since you usually just fly around and spy on people, but I still think in 1v1 combat, skill points make 99% of the difference if it comes done to ships of the same class. I'd like to think it's all based on skill, but it isn't really what I've seen. Fittings and skillpoints + having half a brain is basically it, as far as I can tell. SMELTN
New Star Trek MMO. Isn't out yet, he was asking for one now :) BUT since you brought it up, you can try and get a beta key from Fileplanet for Star Trek Online. Open beta begins the 12th of this month, with release scheduled for mid Feb
Cy-Kill
I just pre-ordered Star Trek at a local EB Games, we're supposed to get a Beta key with the pre-order, according to them, the don't have them [beta keys] yet, my ass they don't. So, tomorrow I'll be calling up the Canadian head office, and contacting Atari & Cryptic to see what can be done.
SMELTN
so you mean to tell me fileplanet has TONS of beta keys to give out, and closed beta ends on like the 9th? So EB Games wants you to pre-order the game and get a beta key from them when? When open beta comes out on the 12th? WOW thats horrible. I would definitely call someone about that like you said you are going to do.

You still need a key for the Open Beta, but EB customers are also supposed to get a key for the head start which is 2 days before the retail launch. From EB's site: Reserve Star Trek Online and receive beta access, and 2-day early head-start access. Beta begins January 12, 2010 and runs through January 26, 2010. Early head start will begin on January 29, 2010. Available online and in-store while supplies last.Online / In-Store Pickup Customers: A beta activation code and download instructions will be emailed beginning 1/11/10. Store Customers: A pre-order card containing a beta code and download instructions will be available in stores beginning in early January. I wasn't given a thing, except the receipt to prove I pre-ordered the game. Edited January 6, 2010 by Cy-Kill

Shadrack
Or you can use Cedega, which is an optimized version of WINE for gaming:http://www.cedega.com/ Cedega worked well for me w/ WoW! I remember buying it a few years ago. I would imagine that most MMOs would work through Cedega and Wine. But not much native. - Thanks for all the posts guys! I was thinking the what MMO discussion needed to be revisited. I'll probably hop into Star Trek: Online because I know my sister and her family will be. That should be fun and maybe different. I hope that it is well polished. It seems like the trend of the MMO maker is always the same: release something before it is finished in Beta. Hope that you get enough revenue from selling everyone a beta and making them subscribe and pay you monthly for beta testing their ****. Wonder why they aren't as popular as WoW (although Blizzard did the exact same thing) and then go on and make another MMO.
SMELTN
so I got my beta key last night for Star Trek. Started the download.... 8.19gigs!! I will play when I get home today and see if I like it or not. You know that sucks that it was Open Beta. They never specified in the post on EB's site. Only way we know it is open beta is because it begins Jan. 12th. Everyone can get in the open beta as long as you go to the site and get a key, so I guess the only good thing about pre-order is the 2 day head start. At least get into open beta and play to get a good idea of what to do and such, then when the 2 day head start goes live, hurry your butt up and get stuff done and get out of the "noobie zones" if they have them :)

I will play when I get home today and see if I like it or not. Oh come on now, that's nothing. I remember the Beta client for Vanguard being 27GB before installation, when it was finally released [retail release] they got it down to about 15GB - 17GB installed. so I got my beta key last night for Star Trek. NicolaeCeausescu
Dragonica Online is a cool new free MMO, check some vids on youtube , the gameplay is very easy, it's like an arcade, but the pvp its something you have to learn seriously. It has a cool childish touch but it will keep you busy :D
Volatile
Aion Online is great. http://na.aiononline.com/ As an X-WoW, Runes of Magic, GuildWars player.. I really enjoy this one. The graphics are truly amazing and far superior to WoW. A few things I would change about the game in comparison to the others, but overall I am a current satisfied player. Jaybonaut
Shows how much you know about DCUO, it's PC & console. I know that, I am talking about the game itself. The PC version will run like a console MMO.
