MR_Candyman
Wow, looking back there really isn't much that I can say I truly loved. I would say WoW (until Blizzard messed around with it too much after wrath and I quit playing), Battlefield 1942, Assassin's Creed, Race '07. It's a bit scary to think how hard I had to struggle to come up with this list.

Sethos
Operation Flashpoint / Armed Assault / ArmA II - ( Yes, all 3 as they are basically iterations but the same brilliant game underneath ). World of Warcraft - I don't like the game in its current form but I can't deny the game a spot because I was an active player for over 3 years. Grand Theft Auto series - Yes, all that's within the decade. It was like a massive ladder bringing one epic game after another with the decade conclusion, GTA IV. Men of War - Fantastic strategy game that was way underrated. Counter-strike - Yes, a taboo subject in our time but I spent countless hours with this game and it also deserves a spot. Those are the top games on top of my head that truly deserves a spot, yes I've played a ton of games over the decade and many of them for months but they are all come and go, the above are games that are stuck in my mind and have given me so much in terms of gaming. ~Johnny
Pok?mon Gold & Silver - quite possibly the best Pok?mon games ever made and at the height of its popularity... plus i was young enough at the time to really be into it xD Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter - seriously, the memories I have playing this game in the 16 player co-op campaign are probably some of the best nights of gaming I've ever had! Bioshock: Loved the atmosphere, love the story, and LOVED the twist! Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - kinda goes without saying :p Excite Truck: Just fun!! xD Star Wars Rouge Squadron II: My first gamecube game, and being a massive star wars fan I was amazed at the time at how good the graphics were, and how authentic the whole thing felt Advance Wars: All of them! The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - by far my favourite of the series. Fable: I never even knew about all the hype or missed promises before I bought it, so walking into it without knowing what to expect, I was totally amazed :) Metroid Prime Trilogy: I could never complete Metroid Prime 1 or 2 before this, I don't know wy I just couldn't bring myself to do it. With Trilogy, I've beaten them both and I throughly enjoyed it!

LingeringSoul
Counter-Strike: Source (PC, 2004): While this game is certainly nowhere near the quality of 1.6, and while hit-box issues pretty much plagued it since the beginning (and still do, I believe), I can't deny the fact that I sunk countless hours into this game. Through 2005 and 2006, CS:S dominated my gaming time completely. My summer of 2005 was pretty much spent working at a grocery store, coming home and playing CS:S for hours on end. I didn't even finish Half-Life 2 (a fact that shames me greatly) because I was so obsessed with this game. Hell, even when all of my friends were getting bored and moving on, I stayed behind and continued to spend hours in dust2 and office. It wasn't until I got Day of Defeat: Source that I started to move on. Deus Ex (PC, 2000): It's funny to think that when I first started playing this game (back around 2003 if I recall, I was pretty late to the party) I nearly stopped playing out of boredom. I had just finished playing through Half Life 1 again, and Deus Ex just seemed quite slow and clunky by comparison. However, I stuck with it, and loved it so much that I played it through two more times. Above all else, I loved how the game let you take on a situation in whatever way you wanted. By today's standards, such an idea is hardly new, but Deus Ex is the first game I ever played that gave me that sense of freedom. Chrono Cross (PS1, 2000): Technically, if you count the Japanese release, this game was released in 1999, but it never made it to North America until 2000, so it gets a spot on my list. Most of my time on the original Playstation was spent playing JRPGs. Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX, Breath of Fire IV, Suikoden II, Final Fantasy Tactics, and so many others. Of all the JRPGs I played on the PS1, Chrono Cross stands above all the others. While it's certainly inferior to its predecessor, that's nothing to be ashamed of when your predecessor is the greatest JRPG ever made. Everything about this game, from the amazing soundtrack, to the battle system, to the story were just amazing to me. Just talking about this game makes me want to drag the PS1 out of my garage and put this sucker back in. Battlefield 1942 (PC, 2002): Thanks to Spookie for reminding me about this game. When I played the Wake Island demo for the first time, I was playing it on a Pentium III with 1.03 GHz, 256 MB of RAM, and a GeForce 4 MX 420 (which of course was just a repacked GF2). Needless to say, it ran like death. However, the game was just so damn good, and so innovative that I didn't care how badly it ran. I remember playing for hours during the summer. Even when I was going about my day, my mind was constantly thinking about strategies for Wake Island. This game was so good that I even managed to get my sister to play, and she doesn't particularly like online FPS games. Unfortunately, the full game was a bit of a disappointment, since none of the other maps even came close to the greatness of Wake Island, but that doesn't change the fact that this game changed online FPS games forever. The World Ends With You (NDS, 2008): A fairly recent one, but this has become my favourite portable game of all time, eclipsing even my fondest memories of Link's Awakening. Everything about the game just has a way of drawing you in, from the characters, to the world, and the battle system. For a portable game to draw me in like this is something I had never previously experienced. This is one of the only DS games I've ever played that legitimately required both screens to play. The battle system required a level of focus that I've never seen from any JRPG before. This game could only have been done on the DS, and it was done so well that I didn't even care that my Xbox 360 was sent away (RRoD). I was having too much fun with this game to care. Command and Conquer: Generals (PC, 2003): I suppose this one will draw some controversy, but it's still my favourite Command and Conquer game, and I've been playing as far back as the first Red Alert. While it certainly had its share of problems (balance being quite possibly the biggest issue, and one that was unfortunately never resolved thanks to EA's neglect), and while it pales in comparison to the excellent Company of Heroes, I just have too many fond memories of this game to leave it off my list. I was recently playing this game at a LAN party, and I was surprised how well it has stood the test of time. The graphics are hardly great by today's standards, but they get the job done, and it's still as fast paced and ridiculous as ever. The two CNC games that game after this failed to achieve the greatness of Generals, and CNC4 will also fall short of the mark (although I'd love to be proven wrong here). Mass Effect (X360, 2007): Another recent one, and perhaps the reason I love this game so much is because it brings me back to the days where I was obsessing about Deus Ex. I'm not sure if Bioware drew any inspiration from Deus Ex, but the skill systems certainly have a lot in common. In any event, this is one of the most fully realized worlds I have ever seen in a single player game. Everything from the explanations of each planet, to the codec descriptions, to the backstory of each race exudes an attention to detail that is absolutely amazing to me. The fact that this game shines in spite of all its technical problems is a testament to its greatness, and if Mass Effect 2 can provide the same experience minus the technical issues, we're in for a real treat this month. Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution (PS2, 2003): The pinnacle of 3D fighting games, and the fact that it receives such a small amount of attention as compared to the likes of Soul Calibur, DOA, and Tekken is a damn shame. VF4 is one of the only 3D fighting games I've played where button mashing will get you absolutely nowhere. At the peak of my skill, I had almost every guaranteed throw move memorized, and any attempt to button mash against me would be easily overcome with a little bit of patience on my part. This is one game that I sunk hours into, and I still felt like I had so much to learn (I still couldn't pull off a triple-throw-escape-guard to save my life). Unfortunately, VF5 failed to recapture the magic for me, but maybe it was just because I had played this game to death. Halo 3 (X360, 2007): I fought with myself over this one. It was either this game or GTA3, but I eventually decided on this game for one reason and one reason only: multiplayer. I've never touched the single player in this game, and I have no plans to. The sole reason this game is one of my favourites of the decade is because it lets you have four player split screen over Xbox Live. When you put four people in the same room, playing against other people over Xbox Live, this becomes one of the best gaming experiences I've had in my life, whether we're talking about this decade or the previous decade. The fact that split-screen gaming is getting neglected these days in favour of online play is extremely disappointing to me. As much as I love online gaming, nothing compares to sharing that camaraderie with a bunch of people in the same room. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2, 2004): I knew that my list wouldn't be complete without an MGS game, and while I do agree that MGS4 is a superior game, I just can't deny the fact that I enjoyed Snake Eater so much more. By the time the series reached MGS4, I felt like it was becoming a parody of itself. The use of nanomachines as a catch-all explanation was extremely annoying, and I eventually found myself playing with my cellphone or taking a drink while the cutscenes were playing. While MGS4 felt ridiculous and unintentionally humorous (though still a great game, don't get me wrong), MGS3 was over-the-top in all the right ways. Snake Eater managed to put an extremely engaging (and ultimately tragic) storyline into a game that still had its share of over-the-top hilarity (the Ocelot scenes in particular were memorable). I feel like this is the least accessible of the MGS games, simply because it actually forces you to be stealthy. You must actually think about what you're doing, instead of just dodging a bunch of conical shapes on a radar or buying as many weapons as your heart desires. Some people didn't like the game, and I don't fault them for it. It's not for everyone, but those of us who stuck with it were rewarded with what I believe is the finest game in the series. Honorable Mentions: Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2, 2001) Company of Heroes (PC, 2006) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (X360, PS3, PC, 2007) Advance Wars (GBA, 2001) Portal (PC, 2007) Team Fortress 2 (PC, 2007) The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC, 2002) Resident Evil 4 (GC, 2005) WipEout HD (PS3, 2008) Uncharted 2 (PS3, 2009) All in all, an excellent decade for gaming. Here's to another great ten years :).
