mAcOdIn Veteran Posted June 17, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 17, 2003 Today I was going to buy System Shock 2 over ebay since I couldn't find any other place. I initially figured I had already signed up since I pretty much have an account everywhere so I try and logon with my standard name macodin. So the password was wrong, so I go onto the secret question which was my mothers maiden name. Typed it in and I'm in. So the first thing I wanted to do now that I've gotten back into my old account was make sure my address was correct so when I bought it it would get to me right, so I look up the contact details and it was someone elses account. What are the freaking odds that someone that uses the same username as me(which is fairly rare, unlike say zerocool or something) and thier mother has the same middle name? Anyways I shot the guy an email so he can get his account back, I just find it pretty funny.

Hey if you are still looking for SS2, I have a barely used (bought it too close to finals, and now own a Mac...) copy I could sell you (not through ebay). PM me and we'll discuss price/shipping/etc. :D
altezza Veteran Posted June 17, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 17, 2003 Never heard of that could happened but how can your account was edited? Could be Ebay's database error?
BroChaos Veteran Posted June 17, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 17, 2003 seriously? that's like next to impossible...unless your mother's maiden name was like smith or something...
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted June 17, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted June 17, 2003 Wasn't my account he just uses the same username and his mother has the same middle name. It's all good now I guess, he said Ebay emailed him as soon as I got in, so he was able to cancel the account. He was cool about it too. Also good to hear that ebay emails you even when you pass the security question correctly.

+John Teacake MVC Posted June 17, 2003 MVC Share Posted June 17, 2003 yeah surely e bay would have a system put in place for this to say this name already exists
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted June 17, 2003 Author Veteran Share Posted June 17, 2003 Yes ebay does say the name already exists, I just thought it was mine. I have never ever seen anyone use my user name before and actually consider it to be unique. So it never occurred to me that someone else may use it. As for the middle maiden name thing, I did mess up. Ebay infact asks for the maiden name and I gave it her middle name, so our mothers don't have the same names, it's just a really really rare mess up on my part typing the wrong name. lol. BroChaos Veteran Posted June 17, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 17, 2003 yeah, i still can't believe that... so like 2 people have your username, that's like 2 in 10 million. and i don't know what your mother's middle name is, or the other dudes mother's last is, but still, it can't be THAT common. dude if i were you, i'd seriously buy some lottery tickets tonight.
