Parallels question! need help

Recommended Posts

The question is for my dad who is interested in buying the program. He already tried VM but didn't like it. So here is the question :)

So when he is running OSX and uses parallels to use winXP he wants both operating system to be able to read the USB drive that is plugged in. Currently only OSX can read it but winXP that is running by parallels doesn't even know that usb drive is plugged.

at the bottom of the parallels windows on the right click the lil USB plug symbol and connect that device, or in the configuration for that VM set it to always connect that device

I know that in VMWare, if you pass a USB device to the guest OS it is no longer accessible from the host OS. Not sure about Parallels, but I would assume similar behavior.

If you need access to the USB driver from both the guest OS and the host OS at the same time, best thing to do is to "share" the files/folders on the device from the host OS to the guest OS.
