Krockett
So yeah I'm really Interested, and Excited about starting work on my new MAME Cabinet, this would be my first attempt at building one. I guess I was wondering if anybody here has built one before and could give me reference's as for website to help me build one. Also (I have a General Idea) ~What Kind of Hardware do I need ~What Software Would you Recommend ~Any other Advice or Reference's you can think of. IDK but I may be in over my head but I think it would be very Interesting and rewarding. Oh and yeah, feel free to post pics of your Cabinet, and details and such I would love to see what others have done before. Thanks in advance for help, and Im sorry if There is already a thread about this. Did a search but couldn't find anything
Timan Veteran Posted January 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2010 I was going to recommend you check out Hanaho.com but they seem to be down currently I used to have one, we took a final fight cabinet (was able to get this for free, just call around see if anyone has one they're trying to throw away). Then we gutted it, threw a 19" crt in there, made a keyboard tray... and had the hot rod se (google) sitting on top. Worked great. Not fun when you have to move tho :( Also a nice community to check out is retrogames.com
Krockett
This may or may not be a noobish Question but would you recommend using A CRT or can I use an old 32 inch SD tv I have. Will that drastically kill my resolution.
Timan Veteran Posted January 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2010 Well tbh, resolution is something you want low when dealing with mame/arcade games. If you use anything with a great resolution/lcd... the games won't look near as good. You would have to add fake scanlines and stuff to get the real arcade feel. 640x480 / 800x600 should be ok. Krockett
Sweet! So the old tv would probably be great then?
Cy-Kill
Most people use a CRT computer monitor when building their own MAME machine.

Will that drastically kill my resolution. sdtv as in not hdtv? is it an LCD tv? i think it would work... but it wouldnt look as good since you will be able to see all the pixels and stuff, and what made these games look so attractive was how the graphics looked slightly smudged on a CRT , it was as if they were real objects glowing behind the screen
Krockett
Here's a search on Google for tutorials:http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&sour...ame+cabinet+tut yeah thanks, I would had done that if I'm not at work. ninjagowoowoo
Making a homemade MAME cab always seems like a fun project to me. I plan on making one when I have somewhere to put it, hah. Good luck on your build and be sure to post pics and what problems you encountered. There are vendors online that offer some authentic components (buttons, coin machines, etc taken off of old/broken cabs) but I don't recall any off them top of my head. Google should help.
