DrunknMunky Veteran Posted January 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Please for the love of god change it back to before. As a long time member I can't tell you how frustrating it is to change to this new layout. It doesn't even benefit the forum with the new layout, so why change it at all. All that it has changed is the amount of clicks it now takes to browse between subforums which isn't intuitive at all. I'm going to add a poll just to see what the overall majority feel, but I know from just today on Twitter a few regulars miss it. Don't fix what isn't broken! Sethos
Old style by miles and miles. Normally, I tend to moan a bit, give it a chance and end up liking it but this time ... No. Because there is no head or tail in the new system, it seems to have been designed to just give the layout a bit more padding at the expense of functionality. It's a relatively small change but when you frequently visit those areas and constantly browse around the change is quite major. I'm begging whoever is in charge; change it back! Everything else you're trying is brilliant and we appreciate it but this change is just annoying :(
Fred Derf Veteran Posted January 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) Correct me if I'm wrong but the old way was to have Gamers' Hangout as the root and the various platforms at subfolders of GH. The new way is to have GH and all the platforms on an equal footing. p.s. I null voted to see the results. Xilo
Agreed. It made much more sense before. The gamer's hangout was like a hub for general/multiconsole information. Then it had the links to the subforums where you could easily see the latest topics and go between them. Felt like a much tighter community. DrunknMunky Veteran Posted January 4, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2010 They were already even as subsections with the GH acting as the root. Why add "Gamer Support"? You've moved the old root into another root. It's redundant. It's definitely something the regulars will understand more than the new members. For the past 4 years or so it's what we've been used to and like I said, it's been changed with no benefit at all.
Jimmy0
Old style - was much easier to navigate as everything was together in one, tightly knit section.

Shadrack
Not even. The new layout is a lot better! Having platform specific subforums of the "Gamer's Hangout" made them less visible even though MOST posts belong in the platform specific forum and not in Gamer's Hangout. If it were up to me, I would do away with all of the platform specific forums and just have 1 Gamer's Hangout forum that required [tags] in the topics. If there isn't enough discussion to roll a topic off the first page of posts within a couple of days, then there isn't enough discussion to warrant subforums IMHO. KoL Veteran Posted January 4, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2010 I prefer the old style too. I'll probably get used to the new one but having a main game section and sub section for the Nintendo/Sony/MS etc makes more sense to me.

With the amount of stickies, guides, and etc in each platform forum, having them combined all into one would be too unwieldy. I agree with the above posters. It seems like a lot less activity now. I know I visit it less just because it's more of a pain to cycle through all of them now.

HideAndGoatse
I have to agree, even logically the old style makes sense. Have a big section for all gamers to discuss key multiplatform topics and general gaming news. Then have subsections where specific groups of people could talk about their own respective fields. I can see how activity would have been a little spread out and maybe the forum moderators didn't like that, but it was spread out because of the diversity of gamers. For the past 4 years or so it's what we've been used to and like I said, it's been changed with no benefit at all. I think that the new sectioning has the following benefits: 1. Less likely for a post to land in the wrong forum. 2. Demonstrates that Neowin has a very active gaming community. The last layout kinda tucked the gaming community neatly in the back. 3. Easy for me to find when looking at the ToC of forums on Neowin. Changing it back would have no benefit at all except to appease people who seem to prefer it because it was what they were used to. That is how the GH used to be organised but it was changed at the start of this generation with the influx of posting that came to the section.
