Xilo
Yeah, appease the people who actually use it regularly and make up the section? Can't have that! Appease the actual users you say? Please, don't be silly.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 4, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 4, 2010 I already suggested a way to keep everyone happy. Have it the way it is just now, but under the GH section have the links to PC/Sony/MS again like it used to be. That surely cannot be hard to code/implement - They're essentially just shortcut links. I understand the change, wanting new members to see we have specific sections, but the GH core community is a very strong one, change was always going to cause a talking point especially with no warning/discussion before hand. The members should have been more involved in the change and maybe we could have met in the middle, or maybe gone with the suggestion I have above, or other suggestions. Shadrack
With the amount of stickies, guides, and etc in each platform forum, having them combined all into one would be too unwieldy. I agree with the above posters. It seems like a lot less activity now. I know I visit it less just because it's more of a pain to cycle through all of them now. You mean the redundant stickies that state the no "fanboy bashing, trolling, flaming, etc." :p Lol. I think you make a good point, but if you are like me and are potentially interested in topics in all the Gamer's forums, but there are only 1 or 2 new posts in 1 or 2 forums whenever I check them all the extra pages and clicks seem to be a waist. I think having both styles would please everyone, if your used to the old style then you can use it that way, if you're not or you prefer the new style then you can use it that way too. The best of both worlds.

Shadrack
I know that is your opinion and idea but that would just suck, would get very confusing and lots of maintenance to do to make sure the tags were correct! Well... it may be a maintenance nightmare. Lol. I don't moderate forums, I use forums. From my perspective as a forum consumer, it would be easier for me to look at 1 list of new gamer posts, as oppose to flipping through the 6 forums we currently have. Maybe there is a way to do this in the search options...

I still don't like that solution. First of all, Gamer's Hangout was once upon a time a section that had no updates, ever. It was always a silent, quiet section that rarely saw any posts. That changed somewhere along the line, yes it doesn't see much activity but it has increased and I like reading a section that concerns all platforms and every gamer as a community - Which is what Gamer's Hangout represents. Then you had each separate platform on top, you could hit refresh once and you'd easily see which section had been updated - It felt like a cosy, a forum within a forum sort of style, I loved it. Now, I barely visit Gamer's Hangout any more and the activity overall has dropped, not because it's hard to click the sections, it's just the streamlined nature and the way it worked has been thrown in the bin. Now you can, at best, see each section as a boring sub-section view and browse them through there and now that community feeling is gone and it just feels like boring sub-sections of a much larger forum. Yes, it sounds melodramatic but that's how I feel, I posted more everywhere else on Neowin the last few days than I have in the "Gamer's Hangout", the community feel died a bit. Shadrack
You have already shown have little you care about the section with those lame suggestions. First of all "have little you" does not make any sense. Second of all, I didn't make a suggestion. If I did I would have suggested it to the Neowin staff, not to you. I said what my personal preference would be, and I'm sorry if my personal preference is lame to you. I guess people who disagree with you are just lame, huh? Read my post again as I covered that exactly. Well, not exactly to my satisfaction, obviously. I don't care to re-read through your walls-of-text. And no, you also happened to disagree with me in the same manner so I do the same to you.
Sir Topham Hatt
I like the new style. The only difference that I see is that Gamers Hangout has become a main section, and instead of sub-forums in a Gamers Hangout forum, they are each in their own forum now, under the main section, Gamers Hangout. I don't understand what people are concerned about.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 4, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 4, 2010 Having one section for everything would be the worst idea ever. There's many one platform only holders only interested in news/topics from a specific company, they don't want to waste their time scrolling through topics of no relevance. It would be like mixing Mac/Linux/Windows and just using tags, terrible idea. The general GH section is used for the multiplatform content, platform exclusive content goes into the specific sub forums.

Yes, because today, right now is the benchmark of the activity in this section - You make sense sir (Y) It even boils down to the exact topic of this thread, people have already stated they are annoyed by it and have seen the activity drop. Smashing Pumpkin
Old style definitely, I've made my feelings known on this in the other threads. If you guys will change it back it would restore my faith in the staff because as has been seen the majority of users, regular, old and new prefer the old style. So to open a topic opening discussion on the new layout and then ignoring the feedback would be tragic.
