Cy-Kill
Well, if people haven't upgraded to a newer console, this may push them to do so: EA has released a service update informing people still playing really old football games on PS2 and Xbox that the online servers will soon be closed for good. Time to upgrade and get with this generation people."Servers for the games listed below will be shut down on the indicated dates," said EA. "You may continue to play the games online up until these dates, but certain community programs may begin to close down prior to the shutdown dates." http://www.guru3d.com/news/ea-to-close-num...online-servers/
chicken-royal
Hmm, some of the games on there came as a surprise. Madden 09 PS3/360/PSP/Wii was the biggest one.
ShamRocker1
That figures. Why not give users the option of running their own servers? Couldn't hurt (except for EA's bottom line i guess).

Xilo
Hmm, some of the games on there came as a surprise. Madden 09 PS3/360/PSP/Wii was the biggest one. Best way to force people to buy the newest game.
Pupik
Downside of dedicated servers. Downside of no support for user created dedicated servers.
Jimmy0
In one way I'm surprised they're shutting down the servers for some of their more recent games, but in other ways it is a way for them to force people to buy their latest releases, so in that respect I suppose I am not surprised. Spookie
Downside of dedicated servers. They aren't even that. Most are simply auth servers!
HawkMan
It's actually the downside of MS being blackmailed to allow EA to run their own matching and auth servers for their XBL games. That and the fact that MS was forced to close down their sports games department which cost us great snowboard games and what was the best rally games at the time
McCordRm
This simply sucks. Not everyone buys a game as soon as it comes out. Imagine some poor schmuck that just bought Madden '09 last month. Wtf?
Aero_Rising
This is nothing new ea has always done this kind of thing I used to play madden a lot and they would shut it down about a year to a year and a half after release part of the reason i stopped buying them. Tech Star
Downside of dedicated servers. For consoles. PC is another thing and another discussion, which I think is easily shown what happens when it's not there with MW2.
what
EA make a lot of sports games :p But seriously, what's the point in using EAs silly matchmaking if they're going to shut down support after a year? I'm surprised any 08 or 09 titles are there.
