Lilrich
Hey, I have long been a xbox user but just recently we were given a HD tv christmas what are these PS3's really like? I mean are the Blueray players really all that good i am genuinley asking becuase i don't know and havent had the oppoutunity to play on one. Cheers Rich
Ironman273
Well, are you asking about playing or movies? Both 360 and PS3 will look about the same playing games. Blu-ray movies are higher definition than DVD movies. My personal opinion is that you can see the difference in some and not in others, however I think you'll definitely notice the difference in newer movies being released. As far as a BR player, I think the PS3 is the best option out there.
Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted January 5, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2010 Honestly for the price you get a game player and the Bluray player (which is rather nice) Most games look amazing, however i have noticed if it is a game that is also on the 360 then the graphics are generally the same on both so i tend to stick to PS3 only games. so that they look much better. AbandonedTrolley
Indeed, multiplatform games are graphically fairly similar. Blu Ray movies are a big step up from DVD so if you like movies it's certainly a good choice :)

soniqstylz
Use any Bluetooth wireless headset not just sony branded While possible, not recommended. And the headset is not system-bundled, however it is bundled with some games.

AbandonedTrolley
ps3 exsclucives tend to be 10X better then multi platforms Debatable.... Killzone 2 is not 10 times better than COD MW or MW2 Uncharted 2 is not 10 times better than the likes of Batman:AA Yes the exclusives are nice and do show off the machine well (Y) HDMI without need for the largest system (250Gb) Not sure if that is a dig at the 360 but I thought all models had HMDI now even arcades? I don't own one so don't know.
HSoft
Not sure if that is a dig at the 360 but I thought all models had HMDI now even arcades? I don't own one so don't know. I think it is a dig from a PS3 fanboy as you are correct. HDMI is now standard on 360s. I have both systems and like both. The Blu ray player on the PS3 is very good (read somewhere that the blu ray device costs more than the actual console is sold for). Personally I like playing games on the 360 more than the PS3 but there are exclusives on both (GT5 coming soon etc.) that I am looking forward to. Online the xbox beats the PS3 but spec hardware the PS3 beat the Xbox hands down. Also little things like replacing the PS3 hard drive with a larger model is actually quite easy to do, virtually impossible on the Xbox. Both machines have their pluses and minuses. X@vier
I'm also looking to get a PS3 or and Xbox but the main thing that's holding me back from getting a PS3 is the online play. How diff is the PS3 to the Xbox when it come to online features, I know the Xbox is the best but i would like to know how much of a diff is there? OP sorry for using ur thread but i think u would also benefit from my question.
SimplySchizo
not much different at all. the online features comparison is very much an out-of-date debate. psn has come a long way. aside from lacking a crosschat feature that will be implemented on n upcoming firmware, they are very similar. only different layouts. ive found my online mp experience on the psn lots better than when i was on xbl. i like the 'sophisticated' feel to the psn gives than the colorful bigheads and adverts that decorate live. not bad for a free service eh? Ironman273
PS3: It only does everythingXbox360: It only does red rings. Wow... that was completely... unnecessary  The 360 RROD is history, they all have HDMI, paid Live is a "get what you pay for" from many sources. But like I mentioned in my first post, if a BR player is what you're looking for, the PS3 is the best with the added game console bonus.
REM2000
I agree, if you can afford it get both. The PS3 is an excellent bluray and DVD player with some great games both downloadable "Flower" and exclusive "LBP. The two reasons which keep me buying more games for the xbox than the PS3, say for example borderlands. 1. I prefer the xbox controller 2. Like achievement score over trophies. However these are both very subjective, when it comes down to the actual console they are both pretty evenly matched. Although one very big bonus the PS3 has over the 360 is the HDD's are user upgradable, i think Microsoft are incredibly stupid for not allowing for a more cost effective storage system for the 360. There is no way im paying the inflated costs for a HDD upgrade from my 20GB which in turn limits my spending on the marketplace.
AbandonedTrolley
I agree, whilst I don't have the 360 anymore, I do still see its merits. Blatent flaming of the console based on previous history and build quality is a little childish and hardly helping the OP in his decision.

Minifig
I used to be part of the "I think PS3 is stupid" crowd. Really. Then I got to play mine that I got for Christmas.. Since Christmas, I've put 7 hours in Little Big Planet, every. Single. Day. I love it to bits. As far as the DVD/Blu-Ray? Superior. For a 300$ system that does both gaming AND dvd/bluray playing you really cannot beat it.. especially with the 250 gig deal.

NeoTrunks
Pretty much, the only different in the online play is the cross game chat, as has been mentioned. It's free, and I've seen no difference in performance when compared to XBox Live. I have neglected to even renew my Live subscription, just based on what I get on the PS3 for free. The interface for the XMB is similar to that on the PSP and Bravia TV's. If you have a Netflix account, that's also free with PSN. On Live, you'd also have to be a gold member. There are no avatars, as there are on Live, but then there's also Playstation Home, if you really care about that kind of thing. All I can really think of off the top of my head. gax23
I use the iPlayer/DVD fucntionality of the PS3 perhaps more than I do the games side of things. As others have mentioned - free online play, wifi, doesn't break every five mins...
