Playstation 3 Advice

Recommended Posts

I have had a 360 pretty much since release, and then last year got a PS3 on a whim, and I have to say - I seem to prefer gaming on the PS3 for some reason. No idea why...

We got a PS3 Slim 120GB for Xmas and it has been in use constantly since then. We've even stopped watching normal TV for now.

We chose it because the games are similar across both platforms, but we also get a Blu-Ray player and media centre. I love that it can stream music, videos and pictures off our Windows 7 PCs out-of-the-box. I love Blu-Ray movies and you can really see the HD difference.

I've not used Xbox Live, but PlayStation network is great and PS Home is quite a cool online virtual reality considering it's all free.

For online i wouldn't say there's too much difference in performance between PSN and Live. It's that with Live you have a much more social experience. You can create parties with your friends which allow you to chat cross games and invite each other into game more easily.

Although i haven't used Live that much (i only use it to play my friends at FIFA) so there could be things i am missing out. Or i could be wrong, in that case hopefully someone will correct me.

thnx for the replies guys.... one more thing

has it been confirmed that the cross chat or any other features for that matter gonna be added to the PS3 online with a firmware update any time soon?

I have a wii so anything is better than their network but i don't want to make the same mistake again, reason I'm asking so many questions.

thnx again for all ur help.

Cross game chat was let slip by Naughty Dog to be coming this year, in 3.10 I think it was (which it then didn't), it's obviously up and running, probably expect Q1 for definite, just dunno when.

It's a when, not if.

Just one of these things that have completely pass Q&A 10x through, because Sony don't want it to end up buggy and/or effecting game performance.

Or hounded by users of games from a certain developer that have problems with cross game chat...

If you need game platform and bluray PS3 is your choice.

Bluray is awesome and its the best HD format right now. you have to see it.

The reason why i prefer PS3 over xbox:

1. internal wifi

2.Bluray

3.Free online play

4.No rrod like xbox and its more stable.

there are few titles compared to xbox but the most i am going to buy is 5 to 10 games I like the most

Not to mention the obvious.

Free online play.

Built in no extra cost Wireless device.

Built in rechargeable batteries for remotes (sadly not easily replaceable.)

HDMI without need for the largest system (250Gb)Use any Bluetooth wireless headset not just sony branded

need i go on.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "HDMI without need"? Does that apply to all 250Gb or just the slim?

All new 360's are HDMI ready, although they originally only had component. Thats what he's referring to.

(From the Blu-Ray Perspective)

The PS3 is one of the view blue-ray players that can easily be upgraded to conform to new Blu-Ray revision standards.

They gone from

Blu-Ray 1.0

Blu-Ray 1.1

Blu-Ray 2.0

And are about to get updated again to support the finalized 3d blu-ray standard to go with upcoming 3d tv's.

A lot of stand alone blu-ray players could not be "upgraded" to newer blu-ray.

I like the PS3 over the two other consoles (own all 3) however not going to say any is the *best* each does certain things better then the other. The PS3 is playing catch up in several area's the Xbox360 does rather well at however.

Free online play / netflix (even after Sony launched there Premium service coming soon)

You can upgrade the hard drive with any standard 2.5" SATA laptop drive (and it doesn't void your warranty)

Also offers (up to) 1080p

And the upconvert dvd player / media streaming from pc to ps3 (via DNLA protocol) works well.

A lot more *free* stuff in the PSN store, especially wall paper and themes, but has a lot more free DLC for games then xbox does.

That to NOT say there something that xbox360 still does better in some areas.

I'm also miffed at Sony for removing Playstaion 2 compatibility to push ps3 game sames (and not removed as cost cutting).

They removed the media card readers (sd, duo pro, etc).

The ability to install linux was the newest feature to get axed in the slim.

Make this thread in the Gamers' Hangout. Of course, all opinions are going to be proPS3.

I, for one, cannot give you a opinion.
