+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 6, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 6, 2010 Head honcho of Capcom France, Antoine Seux, has said the company will be doing a lot less stuff for Wii after the disappointing sales of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. The game only sold 16,000 units in the three weeks since it's launch back in November, in stark contrast to the Wii-developed version of Resident Evil 4, which sold 140,000 during it's release in summer 2007. "This is the year of the emergence of so-called 'new console generation'," said Seux. "The Wii is still an important part of sales, but growth is on both [sony and Microsoft's] platforms. The Wii console is very much a family commitment… for us, Capcom, the future is the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360." Earlier this week, Sega said it was no longer going to develop mature Wii titles after disappointing sales of The Conduit and Madworld. Source: http://www.vg247.com/2010/01/06/capcom-the...d-the-xbox-360/ Nintendo sadly yet again going to lose 3rd parties left/right/center. Think this is the last time you'll see them release gimped hardware, we're multiplatform eccentric now, you need to have enough in common (hardware wise, for ports) to be involved in that new outlook in our gaming generation. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 6, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted January 6, 2010 Make better games. I don't want another rail shooter, and Conduit and Madworld were boring. :( The large sums of money go into making the AAA titles for the PS3/360 that go on to sell millions, issue with Wii development is it's so damn risky because every game has to be uniquely made, not just because of the hardware, with the controller as well. That's what I was talking about with porting above, 3rd party developers are loving the fact they can make a game, then basically with some tweaking and small amounts of Q/A release the same title on both the 360 and PS3. So the developers themselves then have the catch22, pour all their effort and money into making something unique for the Wii that then sells like ****, or follow the trend and make some mini-game/fitness game that'll be cheap to make and sell decently enough to make a profit. X@vier
the main reason is the online, and lets face it the wii online play is just terrible!!! reason I'm looking to get an XBOX or PS3.... the wii is gr8 for when u have people over but how often do u have that many people over ur place?, most people that actually play games like this ones are people that take their time to play it and sadly they find that there friends are having a better time playing online..... online is the future of gaming if nintendo wants to stay on top they need to fix their online, i wouldn't even care to pay for it as long as it worked properly. Draconian Guppy
Good for nintendo, maybe next time around they'll if/when they release the Wii2, they release it with capable hardware for modern games ( like the 360/ps3) but keep improving the motion sensed controlling, because whether we like it or not, there's a crowd for wiisports and wiipenises and wiivaginas, but that doesn't mean they should leave hardcore gamers out. And price is no excuse, the 360 and ps3 were crazy expensive yet they still sold units...

Motoko.
To my speculation. The market Nintendo has acquired just won't do for publisher's who make the extra effort for the Wii. The truth hurts but we all made the mistake in buying a Wii. It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo's next console shifted from motion sensing to 3D. Because when you think about it, Nintendo has been making bank on the Wii since launch not to mention accessories, target audience, and the crap games people ended up buying (save for a few)
Draconian Guppy
Gold! Gold I tell ya! Better hardware would not have helped RE: The Darkside Chronicles, The Conduit, and Madworld. Tru.dat, but maybe more developers would put more effort into them, also, maybe RE was developed for Wii just because they had to, not because there was a market for it, but because they're people who own a Wii. Developers slack, because like humanz. says, it just isn't worth it. While motion sensed is nice all in all with accessories, etc. you need to pair it up with something else for a complete experience...
PreKe
Nintendo sadly yet again going to lose 3rd parties left/right/center. I'm not sure I follow. Yet another crappy on-rails shooter, and surprise surprise, it seels poorly. Perhaps 3rd parties should put a little more effort into it? Think this is the last time you'll see them release gimped hardware, we're multiplatform eccentric now, you need to have enough in common (hardware wise, for ports) to be involved in that new outlook in our gaming generation. I'm sure the Wii successor will support HD, but I'm guessing they'll be aiming for the mainstream once again. And the mainstream doesn't care much about graphics. I totally agree. Argue you don't need graphics to make a good game all you want, but you do need to give developers incentive to go with the hardware and if they can make a single game for both the 360, PC and PS3 easily or do a Wii title then they will go with the 360/PC/PS3. That and some games do need fairly decent hardware anyway such as open world games even if the graphics arent up to modern FPS standards. Butchering online didn't help either. Hopefully Nintendo learns from it. They've done well but it's all really relied on first party support and to be honest besides a few Mario Titles and Zelda I've found even that first party lineup to be somewhat lacking.
