Plarkster
I've got Windows Media Center setup on my Windows 7 PC so I can stream my music and movies to the 360. It works great, but I can't see how to get it to update when I add a movie into my Videos folder that I've defined in WMC so I can't see it on the 360 - I can only see everything that was there when I set it up. I thought it would automatically monitor the folders you specify so anything in them will be shown in WMC. Am I missing something?
mad_onion
Have you tried going into the settings on media center and setting up the videos folder again?
Loso
i use TVersity to stream and with that program it doesn't update the content i add to the folder right away, so i get the situation you're in.
Plarkster
Have you tried going into the settings on media center and setting up the videos folder again? Yeah, and once WMC has scanned through all the files the new items then show on the 360. Problem is, as soon as I add anything I have the same problem. i use TVersity to stream and with that program it doesn't update the content i add to the folder right away, so i get the situation you're in. Annoying isn't it. I've tried TVersity before but didn't like it much really. I've found that if I go into WMC on the PC and play the new files, they then show on the 360... it's as if it doesn't recognise they're they until they've been played. Cupcakes
Ditch WMC on the PC. It's way too slow on the Xbox to even enjoy anything. Try out TVersity again; You shouldn't have any problems using it as it's been properly tested with Xbox 360s. I use it all the time and I've never had any problems. You just need to make sure you refresh it if you've added new items to your library as well as ensure you disable any firewall you may have (or just add a listing for it to be allowed.) Vandalsquad
Really.. my WMC updates files when ever they appear in the folders that are shared with it straight away, my belief is that its always updating when ever new files are added? Without any need for the user to do anything. Unless its some other rule ive got on WMP or windows sharing set and I dont even realise.
Cupcakes
Danno about WMC; I was talking about TVersity. I don't use WMC on the Xbox because it has never been as quick to load & access as it is when I was TVersity. I have to wait, wait, wait, wait for it to load up as well as picking movies.. Won't even bother pausing a movie 'cos those options take forever. Not sure if it's just the HD for my Xbox that causes some slowness with accessing but good grief, I hate WMC+Xbox. Plarkster
To be honest, it is the opposite for me - WMC folders on the 360 load up straight away and it's much slower browsing the same folders with TVersity or PS3mediaserver. I could live with it, but I just don't like the way both those program transcode - there's a delay at the start when play a video, then they play fine until you want to fast forward or skip ahead or anything then they just seem to get stuck. WMC plays them fine and skipping ahead works great. I guess the problem is that I'm used to XBMC on the original Xbox - it just plays everything perfectly. Looks like I'll still be using that to watch movies, or I'll just refresh WMC every so often so all the new items show.

No trascode So maybe you can disable transcode on one of those programs and use them only for streaming.

apreichner
Well why not just share the files to WMP and access your shared files from there instead of the Media Center Extender? I use that for my videos on my PC, and I use WMC extender for my tv tuner. Just open Media Player on your PC and click the Stream button, and select More Streaming Options. Allow the Xbox 360, and then click Customize on it, uncheck "Use Default Settings", and *Check "Make All of my Media Available..." Then click Manage Libraries and Add your Videos folder to your Library. After you finish on the x360 dash, go to My Xbox- and scroll over to Video Library. Select your PC name, and then select the Folder you added. It'll play Xvid, Divx, WMV, Mp4 and H.264 usually work, but sometimes you have to change the file name to AVI instead, not sure why. I tried TVersity and it's just not reliable enough for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I guess maybe if I had more movies that were not supported like MKV files, but theres no point to playing those on my tv since its not HD. Most movies I have are Divx, and the 360 supports them. * I actually had the same problem as you with some of my files showing up and some of them not updating, that step fixed it, but I don't think it'll fix anything for Windows Media Center streaming, only Media Player Streaming. I came across that setting and changed it and it didn't help. However, since trying out PS3mediaserver and TVersity again, WMC seems to be working properly and automatically showing new items when I copy them into my Videos folder! Maybe it's because I deleted all the locations in WMC and readded them since changing that setting - who knows! I had already deleted and readded them before which didn't make any difference but it's working now. I 100% agree with your comments about TVersity - I can see it would be great for some people but it's not necessary for me. Thanks for all the suggestions! d4diesel
i have WMP and WMC both set up on my PC to allow xbox 360 to access it. personally, i prefer to use the WMP sharing. its just seems faster than WMC on my xbox. HOwever, when i was running Vista. as soon i added any video files, i was able to see it on my xbox. since windows 7, there is that lag between adding files and it showing up on xbox and i am taking sometime a lag of a day or two. The solution that i have found for this is open WMP and press F3. it will update all you library files, with newly added files and also delete entries for missing/deleted files. the xbox is able to see those files right now. now, since i am too lazy to go upstairs to the desktop and press F3, i set up the WMC on the xbox as well. in it, for me, if i use the folder view, i am able to see all the files, the way they are on the computer harddrive and play them. I am not a 100% sure but this is a problem in windows 7. In vista, there was probably a continuous running service in the background updating the library as soon as a file was added but in win7, to make it faster, MS might have disabled it to free up some tiny resources. the speed in windows 7 has to come from somewhere. Not a problem on my end. Windows 7 Professional x64 on my desktop, Windows 7 Ultimate on my netbook. WMC is pretty snappy for me... I think that might have something to do with both my console and my computer being wired to the router instead of wireless. As well as my Quad Core in my desktop. Did you try enabling the "Make all of my media available..." button instead of the "Use Default Settings" on your XBox sharing options.
SuperHumanly
I've used TVersity, Windows Media Player & Media Center. So far, the WORST has to be Media Center, the UI is REDICULOUSLY slow... The best would have to be TVersity, and TVersity by default is set to transcode it ONLY when necessary, so if it's transcoding something, that's because the 360 won't play it without being transcoded [such as MKV]. You have to manually click on the Refresh button of TVersity for it to update your media library. I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my laptop, and it streams/transcodes everything fine, including 1080p MKV movies with TVersity. :)

Well yeah WMC doesn't transcode but it still allows you to play anything on the 360.
