DrunknMunky Veteran Posted January 8, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2010 To me at least, you can't be a true hardcore gamer until you've played the old Atari games, and the NES games, and so on... you need to know where the current generation is coming from I actually have a t-shirt with this on it :p

George P Global Moderator Posted January 8, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted January 8, 2010 lol, NES was where you started? Man, I must be older than I think or just lucky I guess having played older systems. Anyways, that video above is nice, they've really done a good job so far. Though you can't walk around I don't care much, the way it's set right now you move faster around the place. And it also seems like you can try out games for a bit and if you like them then buy them for your own game room. This could catch on very well. Ironman273
How come no one invited me to this tree party? I actually had an Intellivision (with the voice thingie. I can still hear "Mattel Electronics presents... B-17 Booooooooooooooomber!") but the 2600 was definitely the catalyst to the first gaming age. ;) //What's with the wood paneled backgrounds in the old joystick pictures? spenser.d
There better be some free stuff.... I know it says you can try stuff in your friends rooms, but some up front free content would be nice. MS charge for far too much on Live/with the Xbox at times (just an opinion). They don't have to do this at all, mind you. What is it that you want for free? I'd say $3 for a game is a pretty good deal. -Spenser

Home has a lot of free gaming content and it's the only thing I can really compare to in terms of arcades.

I'm pretty sure it's not for gold only, for one thing game room is for windows not just xbox and two microsoft wouldn't limit it's possibilities for revenue. Also, i thought it was going to be like home but at least at first you won't be able to walk around so it's not really similar at all.
George P Global Moderator Posted January 9, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted January 9, 2010 I don't think they're in any rush to let you run around the world and make it seem like a clone of Home. I think MS will keep it as different as they can.

Quite a few good games in Home now, obviously you haven't used it at all or just want to bash. Not to mention there's already some classic arcade cabinets in Home with old school games. Massiveterra
I don't know if it's already been brought up, but you won't be able to "move your avatar" around like home. Basically I think you move the camera around your gameroom and your avatar moves on his own, along with other avatar-like characters bought with the game. But like home, there will be microtransactions to add to your gameroom like decor. 240 point is kind of much for these types of games. Especially if they expect people to be filling their gamerooms, that's like over $50 to have a decent amount of retro games.

Especially if they expect people to be filling their gamerooms, that's like over $50 to have a decent amount of retro games. I think that'll evolve eventually. Home whether people want to bash it or not always has people on it whenever I go on, other people who actually use their PS3s will confirm. MS will just do it right in that they'll slowly build up to it rather than Sony trying to fire everything out at once, MS will always show as the better software company, with Sony you usually just need to wait a little longer on them building it up right. There is quite a bit to do in Home now, as well as a full MMO style shooter with bosses and what not, quite impressive. I only jump on it weekly to see the new content, play some games, all I want from it, I'm not a social whacko like that, but some people are and sorry if that offends anyone but Sony are exploiting these people you might call losers pretty well - In the process they're enjoying it, Sony are making money and Home keeps improving on it's content. Why would MS with a whole avatar based system NOT want to try and exploit avatars more in ways like that?
Massiveterra
Because the whole point of gameroom is to play retro games and not be like home
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 12, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 12, 2010 Because the whole point of gameroom is to play retro games and not be like home Just because it could evolve into a virtual room where you can move around doesn't mean it's "like Home". I have a huge pet peeve with everyone in this society always saying something is copying/imitating something else, then trying to be negative about it. MS are great with software, they're going to expand Avatar usage, this is one step, there will be many more and social interaction is obviously high on their list, who was chasing after Facebook/Twitter first? It's just the usual crowd of "I don't want/need to see things like that, so no one else should". People on that boat are going to have a lot of restless nights ahead of them, as MS will most certainly have a lot of expanding/plans still to do with the 360 and avatars. Their are teams of people specifically employed to deal with these social aspects, so not even the excuse of "I just want games, why are they wasting resources on x,y,z instead of making Game Y 2" holds up.
